With every instalment, the scale and epicity if this is not yet a word, it should be of the story increases - the most dramatic leap being from the first to the second book of the series. We also get a renewed focus on Julius Heartstriker who does the impossible by finding solutions where none appear to exist. As epic as this finale was though, I had some concerns. I've tried to push through it in the past, and I think that's what Aaron did, constantly cramming everything in there instead of picking and choosing her story to give the characters room to breathe. I admit, I wasn't looking forward to reading about Keita in the first place. When real life is hard, I sometimes feel overburdened when I add a grimdark novel to the mix. I still loved all of interactions between Keita's dysfunctional family - parents, siblings, aunts and cousins - and perversely quite often I found the twisted relationships between the often borderline psychotic females often accompanied by screaming and hair pulling to be hilarious. Beside, at first, Ragnar see Keita as vapid, insipid, rather stupid and spoiled royals. Oh I am very mad at him for sacrificing himself like that, though it was a very Julius thing to do. The trek home has never seemed so long with their bickering hilarious , their private thoughts scandalous! He's also in denial about loving Izzy. He is a genius and he has a plan. Except for the last book, which I skimmed faster and faster. Ragnar can't believe he wants this vapid little female but the more he learns of her the more he burns and aches to keep her as his own. She didn't even try to make this a story. The sacrifices made and the teamwork that came about was uplifting and exciting. I'm going to stop ramble now and go to sleep. The Story Ragnar is hoping desperately that Queen Rhiannon will take her daughter off his hands. Ren of the Chosen Dynasty is an Eastland dragon although the description makes him sound more tiger-like. Their relationship and interactions seemed to be sprinkled in between interactions with the other characters. He really does understand her. Unfortunately, the fun of these books, the cute characters interactions was mostly absent from this finale. Well, maybe she doesn't pine. The fact that so many beings, humans and mages and spirits and dragons, could work together without killing each other was a huge testament to the influence Julius Heartstriker had had on his world. But I did really enjoy it. I enjoyed both Keita and Ragnar, and even though there is a lot going on, I still found their story to be interesting and their relationship pretty believable. What are you even waiting for, go go go! Here is to hoping that there is minimal explaining and more of all the Heartstrikers that we know and love. You can see how he will continue to be the bind force behind Dragons and other creatures moving forward from this story. Their stories took up too much time and energy away from the main couple. I can't help but fear she'll one day dump him because everything got too heavy for her. He did the voices amazingly well. Unfortunately, the majority of these did not occur until the end. Who not only managed to keep the style intact from the previous titles and gave us a fantastic Bob alongwith his pigeon. I was wondering if there were dragons such as he in this world. I can already see if being a series I return to for comfort when life is hard or sad or not going according to plan. That's his "superpower", what the whole series revolves around.
