PIES FOR STAFF Link this to what participants are learning

PHYSICAL • Take care of yourself throughout the weekend - pace yourself, monitor your energy level. • Be health conscious - aware of using and overindulging on caffeine and sugar – big high, followed by energy let-down. • Wash hands often. • In picking up Kleenex, pick up with another Kleenex • Smudge or get smudged, if no allergies. • Watch actions in front of Participants - i.e. prolonged hugging or kissing. • Remember to breathe! • No sexual contact or activity. • Smokers… monitor level & cut down. Don’t smoke in front of Participants. • Use deodorant. • Caretaking: When we offer or complete a task for another woman based on what we think she needs or to sooth our discomfort with her situation, the priority becomes our agenda rather than hers. We rob her of an opportunity to empower herself through identifying, and requesting what she wants. • Caring: is demonstrated when we can be attentive to her requests or sharing, and provide a service if we chose. The focus is her agenda. • Safety • Cover all cuts and open wounds. • If treating anyone or cleaning up blood, use gloves. • Antibacterial soaps.

INTELLECTUAL • All have gifts we bring and we need your intellect • If you don't know, ask your team leader… • Weekend Leaders are available for personal clearings. • Trust what you know… Your life experience is what you bring to this weekend.

EMOTIONAL • Emotions may surface through the weekend. If you need help getting into containment, see the Weekend Leader, not the facilitation team. They will be focused on the Participants. • Take care of yourself emotionally. • One of the ways to deal with emotions is to journal.

WWW Policies Manual – November 2007 – Staff – Page 1 of 2 – updated November 2017 – effective January 2018 Woman Within® Weekend

• As empowered women, we bring our strengths here and we may bump. We encourage you to clear one on one, or at staff meetings. • Honor the Silence when in the presence of Participants. • Replenish and take time for stillness – that is where intuition is heard. • If you have friends and/or family coming through, let go of your agenda for them and know they will get what they need. Keep clear boundaries. • Be aware that each woman coming through will get exactly what she needs, and trust that. Don’t judge her process. Embrace and bless her journey. Be mindful that as each woman walks this journey her defenses will come up. She will get what she is ready to get, in her time. • We also want to address the issue of any Participant who may be dealing with “suicidal ideation.” i.e., thoughts or plans re: taking her own life. The leaders of the weekend have a definite protocol, and have been trained in what to do should this situation arise. If you, as staff, hear of any Participant speaking any language that has any suicidal ring to it, report it immediately to the Weekend Leader. We take this kind of language seriously, just as we take the safety of everyone concerned very seriously. Do not attempt to handle a situation like this without the Weekend Leader’s intervention.

SPIRITUAL • Stay centered and connected to your source however it looks for you. • Keep your inner child in a safe place. • This is woman's work. Be here in your adult. If you have difficulty with that, check in with the Weekend Leader. • We are all here as a team. All of us help co-create this experience. It is not any one of us who makes, or breaks, the weekend. • Use the anchors you know to stay grounded. Bead, sacred space, container • Protect yourself - you’re not here to take on anyone’s pain. When we take on or carry their pain, they don't heal, • Small circles will form within larger circle, for the bonding that they need to do their jobs. It’s not about cliques; it’s about focus. –Facilitation Teams - Nurturers • Confidentiality – between teams and after weekend.

WWW Policies Manual – November 2007 – Staff – Page 2 of 2 – updated November 2017 – effective January 2018 Woman Within International, Inc: Dress Code for Woman Within UK ® Trainings

Dress Code:

In preparing for a Training weekend, it is important for staff members to consider the reasons we want to establish a dress code as part of the Training. Just as creating the environment of the weekend by placing the pillows, the flowers in the rooms, lighting the candles and burning the sage, is a vital part of creating an environment of sacredness and trust; so too is the dress code and physical appearance of the staff.

Women who have staffed on previous weekends, may assume that clothing they have worn previously is acceptable. Because we are reviewing the dress code, this may not be acceptable any longer. We, therefore, ask you to read and check this dress code as you are packing for the weekend and ask yourself, is this appropriate clothing for the weekend and does it meet the current dress code?

The weekends are intended to enable, empower and nurture the women participants. Since we will be asking the Participants to ‘strip down’ as part of their descent, it is important to provide an environment with very little distraction. For many women, their physical appearance is of great importance and has also been a source of pain, discomfort, envy and feeling “less than”. The physical appearance of staff members can therefore be a big distraction to a woman’s process. We believe that it is vitally important that all staff members, who will be supporting the participants in this process, are therefore mindful of their appearance and dress.

The focus of the weekend is on the participants and not on the staff. The intention is that staff be there to support the participants in their process. We therefore ask you to dress in a neutral and respectful way that does not draw attention to you, to your body or to your physical appearance.

Enjoy the liberation that this may bring you for one weekend!

Specifics of Dress Code:

We ask that each staff member adhere to the following requests in dress and appearance.

1. BANDANA - Each staff member will wear a visible pink bandana at Registration, before the first participant arrives and for the duration of the weekend. 2. PINK - Wear a solid pink tee shirt, shirt or sweatshirt in light or dark pink on Friday evening ready for Registration. No salmon, coral or orange tones are acceptable. This pink shirt may have any Woman Within® logo and may include any Regional logo. This pink shirt may also be plain without logo of any kind. On Saturday and Sunday, clothing with Woman Within and or regional logos on them may be worn, or plain clothing without logo of any kind. Please be mindful of this when packing. If you’re not sure, please check out your tops with either your ATL or TL prior to the weekend.

Woman Within International, Inc: Dress Code for Woman Within UK ® Trainings page 1 of 2

3. TOPS - Wear loose-fitting tops that have a crew neck line, not a scoop neck. Clothing which appears well-fitting when standing, can ride up or down and become too revealing during movement in processes. Therefore, please check neck lines and hem lines. 4. BOTTOMS - Wear plain trousers/jeans/jogging bottoms on the weekend (a stripe down the side of the pant leg or arm is not considered a print of pattern and is ok). Because of the physical nature of the weekend, skirts and dresses are impractical unless worn with leggings and allowing easy movement-lifting carrying etc. For the reasons given above, this is not the place for tight-fitting or body-revealing clothes. If the weather is warm shorts are permitted but these must we walking length (to the knee) or longer. 5. UNDERWEAR - Please also be mindful to wear your clothing so that it doesn’t reveal your underwear. 6. BLOCK COLOURS – No prints, patterns, stripes, cuts, rips, slashes, lace, frills, sequins, sparkles, etc. All clothes to be logo free with the exception of the Woman Within® Logo. 7. NURTURERS - If you are a Nurturer, avoid wearing dark coloured shirts on Saturday. 8. NAIL POLISH - We would like to be clear about ‘clear’ fingernail and toenail polish. Coloured polish or French Manicure is not clear or suitable, however, glass clear, non-pearlised polish is acceptable. Please schedule your manicure appointments prior to the weekend to take this into account. 9. MAKEUP - No makeup is allowed from Friday evening. This means that makeup may only be worn up until 17:30 on Friday, and after the final staff meeting on Sunday afternoon. 10. EYELASHES - No fake eyelashes or eyelash extensions to be worn. Please ensure that you schedule any treatments so as to be able to respect this request. 11. FOOTWEAR - Please be mindful of suitable footwear over the weekend. This is for your safety and comfort ie. No high-heels or platform wedges. Consider trainers, flip flops (either flat or with a low wedge), crocks, ballerina/pump style shoes etc. being aware that during all of Saturday, the requirement is to wear a closed heel shoe or bare feet. 12. JEWELLERY - No jewellery is to be worn at all during the weekend. If jewellery cannot be removed, a plaster must cover the item. No decorative items i.e. no elaborate belt buckles or hair clips/ornaments.

Please ensure that you have read this and are able to abide by it. On the weekend, you may be asked to change anything that is not within these guidelines. Any of the above may be modified at the discretion of the Weekend Leader.

WE ARE WOMEN (Welcome Ceremony) We are women on a journey shining in the sun Shining through the darkest night The healing has begun, begun…. the healing has begun

THE ROSE – important to learn (Saturday morning Breakfast) Some say love, it is a river, that drowns the tender reed. Some say love, it is a razor, that leaves your soul to bleed. Some say love, it is a hunger, an endless aching need. I say love; it is a flower, and you its only seed.

It’s the heart afraid of breaking that never learns to dance. It’s the dream afraid of waking that never takes a chance. It’s the one who won’t be taken, who cannot seem to give. And the soul, afraid of dying, that never learns to live.

When the night has been too lonely and the road has been too long. And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong. Just remember, in the winter, far beneath the bitter snow. Lies a seed that with the sun’s love, in the spring, becomes THE ROSE.

"JOB DESCRIPTION" for Facilitators and Facilitators-In-Training

Purpose: Your job is work with the Weekend Leader to provide an optimal experience for the Participants throughout the Weekend. You model leadership at all times to both staff and Participants. You are a channel of wisdom, love and healing on the Weekend. You stand both on and off the carpet as a queen among queens—owning what you know and honoring the wisdom of all women.

The following information is a supplement to the (1) Requirements for Certification, (2) Guidelines for Facilitation Teams, and (3) Manual for Deep Descent Basic Processes.

Thursday - Arrival:

FACs are required to be on site Thursday evening, at a time determined by the WEL for that Weekend, in order to meet with the Weekend Leader and other members of the facilitation team to assign readings and exercises for the Weekend. You will need to get the facilitation team forms, including the assignment sheet, from the Team Leader before or at the meeting.

FIT’s are highly encouraged to arrive on Thursday evening; however it is not a requirement. FIT’s are requested to communicate with their FAC if they are not able to be there Thursday evening, and let their facilitator know what readings they want to present on the Weekend.

Note: WELs will raise the awareness of the facilitation team by reviewing the following points, and others, at the facilitation team meeting on Thursday and throughout the Weekend. ● WEL’s Expectations: The WEL will let the facilitation team know from the beginning what she expects from them throughout the Weekend. ● Accountability: The Facilitation Team needs to be accountable to the Weekend certification criteria and the protocols even when WEL is out of the room. ● Responsibility: The Certified Facilitator holds the responsibility of the carpet. Therefore, if a FIT is going on too long, the Facilitator needs to step in. She should not wait for the WEL to do so. ● Safety: Be aware of the safety issues for all processes and know how to handle / address them prior to leaving the huddle. ● Dress Code: Remind the facilitation team of the dress code and reasoning behind it. It is all part of creating a safe container for the Participants to do their work. Facilitation Team: it is your responsibility to adhere to the dress code. Clothing should not be distracting and should cover the body without being very tight-fitting. Long skirts are a safety issue on the carpet and are not to be worn (with the exception of religious requirements for dress). ● Keep the Energy Up throughout Saturday: The facilitation team is responsible for keeping the energy up throughout the day on Saturday by keeping everyone engaged in the processes; keeping your voice up at all times so all in the room can hear what you are saying, especially to the Participant; getting Participants involved in the processes when appropriate (e.g., anyone who has had a major loss in their life might be invited by the FAC to come up to support, etc.) The more the women are involved, the more energy there is in the room. ● Creative Processes are to be RARE occurrences. Facilitators are requested to stick to the Basic Processes and use creativity within them. Part of the responsibility of the Facilitator is to mentor the FITS in the Basic Processes. FAC 3 may lead Creative Processes; FAC 2 must have the WEL in the room. When doing Unique/Creative Processes it is especially important to be aware of Safety & Liability. ● There have been Weekends when many staff members have physical limitations. In this circumstance, we support the rare involvement of participants in processes. at the discretion of the FAC, possibly to lift, catch, etc.…with the following caveats: the participant must have done her DD work; she must not have any physical limitations; she will not have any speaking parts; and she must be given detailed instructions and monitored closely.

Friday - Before Participants Arrive:

Preparation for Participants

FACs take responsibility for assigning who will do these specific tasks efficiently, and when:

● Deep Descent Box supplies (This can be done Thursday night or Friday at Lunch time.): o Assure that both team’s boxes have all needed, and similar, items o Check that there are supplies for the Timer in the boxes (two Folders and timing sheets) and give them to TL/ATL to give to Timers when they instruct them

● Set Up for Participant’s Registration (This happens Friday after staff meeting following Lunch.): (Do these tasks as efficiently as possible so facilitation team is on time for their Friday afternoon meetings):

PREPARE PARTICIPANT’S TABLES for Session One (One group of FITS can do this):

o See that the correct number of tables are set up - one for each Participant Small Group (If possible/available, also set up an additional table for each group to do Banners on) o Put tablecloths on tables o Make a “place setting” for each Participant with one of the following at each place: ▪ (1) Questionnaire (faced down) and (2) Pen Note: you may write “B” or “W” on the top back of each questionnaire, for ease of sorting by teams ▪ WHEN the following things are ready with Labels, see below, also set at each place: (3) Small Baggie and (4) Water Bottle, both with Participant’s name & group number o Also put on each table: ▪ Table Number & Stand, Kleenex, Bandanas (one for each Participant), Flowers in vase ▪ One 1 minute glass timer per group on each table o Set up correct number of chairs for facilitation team and WEL, for PIES presentation o Be sure Band-Aids (Plasters) and additional Small Baggies are available – for PIES

PREPARE LABELS for Participants (One group of FITS can do this at same time as above):

o Put Small Group numbers on the 4 sets of prepared name labels for Participant’s (1) Name Tags, (2) Small Baggie, (3) Water Bottles, (4) Journals (Labels for Journals can be put on after all Participants arrive) o Fill Water Bottles (if necessary); Do what’s needed to prevent cold water from condensing on the outside of the bottles and making the tables wet

PREPARE REGISTRATION TABLE for Participant’s arrival:

- Tablecloth - Flowers - Name Tags including Witch Team/Bitch Team designation AND Small Group numbers - List of Participants' names, teams, groups, and Cabins Assignments/Lodging - List of anything that needs to be collected from Participants money, forms, etc.

PREPARE SUPPLIES FOR DURING QUESTIONNAIRES SESSION:

- Journals and Name Labels (put labels on during questionnaire period when you know all participants have arrived) - Supplies, and Signs saying what to do with Small Baggie after finishing questionnaire: - Necklace Beads, Stones, Seeds, etc.; also Bowls & signs for each (“Take one” etc.) - Bowl to collect Small Baggies when filled, and instructions for journaling - Flash lights (torches/lanterns) for moving to next session or to cabins (if applicable) - Check that music player and CD are ready (Do this at dinner, after staff has set this up) - Walkie Talkie (if applicable) for 5 minute warning to TL before coming to Wounded Child check in

Friday Afternoon:

Meet with the Weekend Leader in the afternoon, at assigned time Practice / Review Reading(s), Presentations, Exercises you will be doing Arrange times to be mentored, and/or to mentor. Give this information to your FAC if you want to be observed mentoring

FACs: Check over the Health Rosters for any extreme health problems; discuss with Weekend Leader if necessary; when finished, report that to Team Leader

Friday Evening:

Before Participants Arrive: Assigned facilitation team members sit at registration table Give Participants their nametags Check the Participants off list; collect any forms, money, etc., designated by office Respond to any Participant who has any concerns at the moment; find the Weekend Leader to help clear with anyone who may be suicidal Tell each Participant to remain in their cabin until someone comes to get them

Friday - Day One:

Session One - PIES:

AHEAD: Have the piece of the PIES you are to present written on a small card(s), having put the concepts into your own words. Practice out loud

All facilitation team members are to be in designated area for the PIES presentation When presenting your piece of the PIES, introduce yourself and, if you follow “E”, summarize what has been covered and then begin your presentation After you present your piece of the PIES, introduce the next Team Member who is to follow you

Session Two - Team Building:

AHEAD: See Team Building Exercise reading. Read ahead, prepare, and practice out loud

Model silence, centeredness, and sacredness during this session If you are not presenting the Exercise, watch the responses of Participants and observe them as they share information. After Small Group Leaders introduce their Teams, note the team names and use throughout the Weekend. Join Staff Meeting in Main Room, if you are not monitoring questionnaires.

Session Three - Questionnaires:

AHEAD: Assure tables and supplies are prepared

If you are in charge of this session, immediately following Team Building give Participants instructions, read rules and have them answer questions. They are to be in silence. Monitor the time and give them only 45 minutes to complete Start music as Participants start questionnaires Put name labels and group numbers on journals for those participants who are present When several women are finished, or after about 25 minutes, give instructions about what to do when they complete questionnaire (turn in questionnaires, bring up small baggies, get journals)

Invite them to take a bathroom break throughout, and specifically at least 10-15 minutes before the 45 minutes is up Communicate with Team Leader approximately 5 minutes before you are coming into the Main Room with Participant. (Walkie Talkies work well for this)

Session Four - Welcome: Main Room

AHEAD: Check with Team Leader to ensure that she will be telling Participants, after the Check- In, that lights are going to go up

Starting at a predetermined cue, two facilitation team members share their personal story Second Member shares personal story, explains Speaking Stone and starts CheckIn. After staff has checked in, she invites Participants to share; if all Participants do not share, she asks them to say their name

Session Five – Castle Guided Dream:

AHEAD: Check with TL to ensure castle paper and markers are ready for Castle Guided Dream If Participants need to be split into two groups, designate a reader in addition to WEL

Facilitators will not be present for Castle Guided Dream. WEL reads Castle; Facilitators will read participant questionnaires during this time, making sure that each participant has written the four safety commitments on the back of her questionnaire. Notify WEL if a participant fails to record her commitment statements on the back of her questionnaire Assigned FIT does Closing Announcements Afterwards, clear floor and prepare Main Room (or designated area) for Movement exercise in the morning. Cue music. Change Purpose of the Day poster to Day Two. Blow out candle.

SATURDAY - Day Two:

Session Three – Small Group (Castle Drawing Discussion) / Acceptance Statement:

Small Group

AHEAD: Prepare by reading Small Group Leader Job Description and talking with your Small Group partner ahead of time

Be a part of Small Group Discussion, as agreed upon with your partner Stay seated with your Small Group until the Acceptance Statement explanation begins

Acceptance Statement

A Designated Facilitator will explain Acceptance Statement

Session Four – Drumming / Explanation of Deep Descent Process / Deep Descent:

Drumming

Designated FAC or WEL will invite Small Group Leaders to come up front, with instruments, and will then lead Percussion and Drumming (See Reading)

Explanation of Deep Descent Process

Immediately after Drumming, all Facilitation Team members and WEL sit in front of room The two FACs will explain Deep Descent Process

Deep Descent - Policy

The first Process is done completely by the FAC, with the support of the FIT who is on carpet. First 3 Processes--The Certified Facilitator is up for the first 3 processes; if there is an experienced FIT can she take an active role The subsequent rotation of team members is determined ahead by FAC in coordination with the team based on their wants and needs, their skill levels, the needs of the container, etc. (We want the Participants to see that it is a Team from the beginning.)

No one on the facilitation team is to play a role - except if there is a team of 4 (FITs need to be observing, and learning to monitor the room) Weekend Leaders do not take roles w/ rare exception

Deep Descent Processes

Metaphor - It is intended that all processes link to a metaphor that can be clearly verbalized - how does this process relate to her life.

Use of Songs - Songs can be a valuable part of a woman’s experience during her process; however, songs are not appropriate or acceptable at the end of each process following the drumming and acknowledgement

Use of Sheets - When using sheets, give participants a choice of color (white, black, grey or pink). This addresses concern that specific colors are not associated with specific values—i.e. all things dark are bad. In order to be sensitive to multicultural meanings, as well as individual attributions around color, we offer participants a choice based on what is meaningful for them.

Huddles - Policy

Huddle Protocol - brief emotional release, brainstorming, crystallization of 3 or 4 possible processes, narrowing to 2, and assignments of who will set up staff, supplies, etc.

Facilitator runs the huddle. Facilitator may ask partner FIT what she saw and heard, and what processes she recommends. FAC may check in with off FIT for input. Ask Weekend Leader for input. Weekend Leader gives input from questionnaire, initial or confirming. The person leading the process (FAC or FIT3) decides which process choices to give, at discretion of FAC.

Who attends huddle - the entire facilitation team for that group of participants and the WEL

No Huddle - A no huddle situation may occasionally be necessary under particular circumstances: i.e. if Participant is out of touch with reality, disoriented as to place or time, delusional or hallucinating, body shaking, vomiting, eyes rolled back, catatonic/frozen, terror, unable to contain anxiety responses, a huddle may not be appropriate. If a Participant is clearly already in process, the WEL can approve no huddle. If a WEL is not in the room, and the Participant is clearly already in process e.g. revealing sexual abuse, when stopping the process would seriously interfere with the Participant's work, a certified FAC may approve no huddle.

Acceptance Statement - Policy

It is not O.K. for a woman to change her statement. It is O.K. to add a piece, but not to change the shadow piece to a positive piece. Everyone stands as woman says her statement. She is to look into the eyes of participants for a few seconds, while a designated staff drums. No song after drumming and statement.

Debriefing - Purpose

Focus on team energy and participant follow-up. Enough breaks so that no more than four processes to debrief at a time. FAC gives purpose of debrief at first debriefing.

Debriefing - Policy

Team Leader or ATL gets staff re-gathered FAC runs debriefing meeting - with WEL, as appropriate FAC recaps purpose of the Debrief, and leads a brief check-in, e.g. anyone need something to be present. Be very concrete. If someone needs more time, ask her to contain until she can meet with Weekend Leader later. Timer states which process participant did what and how long Nurturer may report what participant asked for in the nurturing corner FAC asks for questions, clarity needed, release of energy getting stored; monitor staff energy

Ending Deep Descent

It is the Facilitator’s option to choose how she would like to close on Saturday night after all processes are complete. She reminds participants that they are still in silence, where they go next (check with TL/ATL), and to take their drawing. Facilitator is to be aware of having smooth beginnings and smooth ending to sessions/processes.

If one team finishes DD before the other team, the FAC is to inform the completed team that they are waiting for the other team to finish, possibly give a ballpark figure of time (about 30 minutes), and do not send them back to their rooms. Participants are to go for snacks and journaling (15-20 minutes). (Check with TL/ATL for where.) If other team is later than that in coming, then staff in room may teach the participants some songs.

Saturday Evening Festivities

While it is important for staff to decompress and release after containing all day, appropriate behavior must be considered as we continue to hold the sacredness of the container created. Be aware of the possibility that a Participant could enter the room needing assistance: imagine what might be interpreted from any behavior they may witness.

Session Five – Candle Ceremony:

As Leaders of the Weekend, FITs and FACs are to model reverence and containment during the preparation of entering into the Candle Ceremony. After the Candle Ceremony, work on your Feedback Forms. Facilitators are to meet with Weekend Leader to prepare the FITs feedback forms jointly. Fill out Weekend Leader and Weekend Leader in Training (WLIT) Feedback Forms.

SUNDAY- Day Three:

Staff Meeting

Be on time and present to prepare for the Grief Exercise.

Session One: Participant's Breakfast / Grief Process

Two designated facilitation team members will gather participants from Cabins and lead them to the Dining Hall with the heartbeat drumbeat, and continue heartbeat drum during breakfast. Sit on opposite sides of the room and take turns doing a heartbeat drumbeat.

Before leading the participants from the Dining Room to the Main Room, read the Purpose of Day 3: To honor, integrate, forgive, nurture, and love my own and my sisters’ Woman Within.

Grief Process

Participate in Grieving Process

Session Two: Seed Visualization / Reclaiming Statement

Seed Visualization

When Participants are standing in a circle, start music (ADIEMUS), leave the room; join Staff

Session Three: Initiation Ceremony

Give necklace to Participant

Session Four: Joy Process

AHEAD: Designated Facilitation Team Member will work with other Staff and Weekend Leader in preparing introduction to Sharing of Joy. Stress that we only have time to share ONE piece of Joy, and model this.

BRUNCH:

With Weekend Leader direction, determine where the Feedback session will be held and when If possible, get in line first for food

Session Five: Informational Meeting for Participants

During Informational Staff Meeting: Actively participate in clean up Inventory Deep Descent supplies and pack away. Give inventory to Supplies Coordinator with notation of needed replacements. Return Deep Descent folders, questionnaire, timing sheets, and registration supplies to Team leader Remove all supplies from Dining Hall and pack Tell Team Leader what you have done

OVERVIEW FOR FACILITATOR-IN-TRAINING

1. Your main goal is to become comfortable standing on the carpet with the Facilitation Team. Be aware of what you feel, think, and want to do.

2. Check with the Facilitators as to how to work with them.

Some suggestions: a) Observe the first three processes and, as you feel ready, ask to do part of leadin. b) Take turns doing set up of process. c) Shadow FITS as appropriate.

3. Participate in “the huddle," and share briefly what you are feeling and your hunches.

4. Assist in any way possible to support the processes:

a) Help hang up drawing. b) Make suggestions in huddles. c) Get supplies. d) Coach a role player. e) Call "Safety" if you see a safety issue. f) Coach Participant, as appropriate g) Make suggestions to Facilitator

5. Be willing to let Facilitator take over something you are doing; debrief with her later.

6. Know that we are working as a team and you cannot "screw it up" by yourself. If something does not fit, let it go.

7. Also, know the Facilitator is not there to "take care of" you and your feelings. If you are having an issue with how things are going, speak up between processes. You always have a right to call a meeting of the facilitation team.

8. Let the Facilitator know what you want to do. This is your responsibility.

9. Be aware of any processes that may push your personal issue "buttons," and be prepared to step out if necessary, after letting the Facilitator know.

10. Remember, you are being seen in your leadership role as a model for staff and Participants. Stay focused on being clear, present, warm and appropriate.

11. Be gentle with yourself. You are learning.

SMALL GROUP LEADER – JOB DESCRIPTION

Purpose of Small Group Leader: Your responsibility is to guide the Participants as they reflect on their Castle Drawing. Your job is to witness and meet them where they are. You model balanced leadership to both the Participants and staff throughout the Weekend.

During Team Building: Monitor the reactions of the Participants. Be particularly aware of body language, i.e. lack of eye contact or slumped shoulders.

During the Wounded Child Check-in: Listen and record the words said by the members of your Small Group especially "as a wounded child" and what they fear. A form for this should be in your folder. If not, contact your Team Leader.

During the Castle Guided Dream: Be aware of the members of your Small Group during the meditation and note if they seem to be sleeping, looking around during meditation, etc. These are all clues.

During the Castle Drawing: Be aware of anyone who looks "frozen." Let her go through her process; if she remains frozen check with a Weekend Leader or Facilitator before approaching her.

Your purpose is to hold the container with your grounded presence, and to observe.

As your Small Group members are drawing, be aware of what you are experiencing through their drawings. What are you feeling as you see what is on their paper?

If a group member states directly to you that she cannot draw, encourage her to write in words on the paper what she saw, heard, or experienced.

Small Group Discussion: Meet with the other leader of your Small Group to determine how the two of you are going to work together - where you will each sit, who will do the intro, rotation order, etc. Please refer to Book of Readings: "A Few Suggestions for The Small Group / Castle Guided Dream Discussion. (See attached). Keep time - up to five minutes per woman. After the discussion, you may choose to record the main thing the woman discussed using the Friday evening Check-In sheet, and give it to Weekend Leader.

During the Deep Descent Process: Check with the Facilitator on your team to find out how and if she wants your feedback during the huddle.

During Informational Session: See that Participants' plastic nametags are collected and packed away. When finished, report that to Team Leader.

Small Group Discussions about the Castle Drawing

Purpose: To allow participants to touch and identify the parts of the castle which were the most significant to them. Supplies: Participants’ Castle Drawings Markers Journals Pens Room: Groups are to meet in assigned small groups in designated areas.

To Participants: ● Introduce yourself. ● This is a timed sharing. ● This is your time to begin to focus. ● We will guide you through this process; others are here simply to witness, an opportunity to be heard and seen and just to observe. ● Introduce “I” statements, give an example, and rationale. ● Ask permission to touch drawing. ● Teach about not offering tissue or touching another participant while she is sharing. ● Let them know we may be taking notes.

Guidelines to lead discussion: ● Ask them one at a time to re-connect with the strongest feeling they have experienced since coming here, perhaps during the Castle Guided Dream, and to feel that now. Then they can each share this briefly with the group. It is important for the participant to be with and experience their feeling. Be aware of asking only “head” questions. ● It is important to not rescue or take them out of their pain by being too nurturing. If a participant regresses to a very young child, ask her to take a breath, and look at you (possibly the women in the circle), and repeat back anything she says until she can return to her sharing. ● Use as few words as possible. ● Don't be afraid of silence. ● If the participant stays in her head, ask her to put her hand on the drawing where she feels the most intense feeling, whatever that may be. Ask her to close her eyes and feel this feeling in her body. It may not even be necessary for her to talk about it.

Some guideline questions are: What part of your drawing brings you the most intense feeling? Which room is the scariest? Where is your dungeon? When I look at your picture, I feel (empty, sad, etc.). What do you feel? If you were to change one thing in your drawing, what would that be? What or who did you take with you from the castle?

● Look for visual cues that would suggest blocks; i.e. chains, ropes. Ask them about it. ● Watch the participant's body language and reflect it back to her as an "I" statement. ● Look for colors that indicate strong feelings; i.e. red, black. ● When the participant touches a deep feeling, ask her to identify where it is in her body. Tell her we will be coming back to this later in the day.

How to close discussion: ● Don’t hold hands or force group connection at the end. Instead, focus on the place in their body they have just identified and how they are feeling. ● Encourage them to continue to listen to the wisdom of their body. FACILITIES - JOB DESCRIPTION

The stop button is too harsh a sound during the sessions. Watch TL or FAC for cues on when to start and or stop music, especially during the DD processes.

NURTURER - JOB DESCRIPTION

Note: Staff must not be assigned to a Nurturer role and a Safety role. High potential for conflict in overlapping responsibilities.

Purpose: Your role is to provide nurturing and anchoring to the Participant after her Deep Descent process. This brings healing and a path to the Ascent by giving the woman a chance to reflect on the process she just completed and to integrate her experience.

Friday - Day One: It is important to be present, calm and contained. Take care of yourself today to ensure you can be present as a Nurturer. If you do not feel you can be present as a Nurturer, please let your Team Leader know.

At designated time: All Nurturers meet with the Weekend Leader: Review Role and Establish rotation. After the meeting arrange with the local kitchen for water with lemon. Store Juice boxes in the Kitchen refrigerator as they should be cold for Saturday.

Saturday - Day Two: Check with the Team Leader as to when would be best to set up the nurturing corner and discuss the location. Set up nurturing corner mattress, pillows, sheets, blankets

Remember to get the water and juice from the kitchen and have plenty of cups and tissue.

** Important Note to Nurturers for Nurturing Corner set up: The Nurturing Corner is a space for participants to continue to anchor their process from their "Woman" space. It is about one woman offering nurturing to another woman in order to ground her carpet experience. To this end, create a space that is serviceable and comfortable, not over the top luxurious or child-like cozy. For safety, WEL's and/or Facilitators need to have a line of sight into the Nurturing Corner. This is to ensure that the staff member in the corner with the woman being nurtured is able to catch the eye of a leader on the outside should she require assistance if the woman being nurtured 'takes a turn' and goes beyond what the staff member with her can handle. The ideal line of sight would be in the direction of where the WEL and extra FAC team member(s) are sitting. Be sure the set up is such that the participant is not engaged in watching the next process but focusing on herself.

Deep Descent: ● Be present during the deep descent process and observe what the woman is reclaiming. ● Don't wear black. Don't volunteer to play negative roles (do not get direct eye contact with the Participant when she is picking a person to play a negative role) ● After the woman has completed her process, take her gently aside to the "nurturing place." Remove your nametag. ● Ask her what she needs now and be with her to anchor in and comfort her. If she refuses, honor that and let her know that if she changes her mind to let you know. ● Ask her, "How would you like me to be here for you?" "How would you like for me to hold you?" Try not to form expectations of what you think she wants. Sometimes it’s easy to feel you’re not doing it right, but trust her process. ● Tell her, "This is your time." Very little talking (keep your voices down) ● Make her as comfortable as possible. Ask her to close her eyes and concentrate on the sensations in her body. ● If needed, do a brief relaxation exercise by breathing deeply and having her go to a safe place in her mind's eye. ● If needed, ask her to recall up the image, sound, or sensation she used to anchor her process. ● Have her hold that symbol and where she placed it her body so she can recall it at any time. ● After the next person has processed, let her know that it is time to give someone else this space and ask her if there is anything else she wants at this time. ● After your turn, take gentle care of yourself renew yourself as you may need to. ● Tidy up the area and prepare it for the next nurturer. Remove used tissue, cups, etc., and provide a clean cup, etc. Empty trash as needed. Remember to wash your hands.

NOTE: During dinner or other breaks a nurturer shall not be left alone in the nurturing corner with a Participant who is still being nurtured. The TL/ATL will assign another experienced staff member to stay behind to be in the processing room and be available should the nurturer need assistance.

Saturday - Day Two End of Day: Return mattress and other supplies to areas obtained. When finished, report to Team Leader.

RITUAL - JOB DESCRIPTION

Purpose: Your purpose is to provide an atmosphere of sacredness by being aware of the need to smudge (or other ritual supplies, ie, bells, etc), and provide a ritual of cleansing and blessing.

Friday - Day One:

Health and Safety Policy

It has become increasingly difficult to cover all the medical needs that continue to be raised on Woman Within Weekends (WWW). It is also becoming increasingly difficult to put Woman Within staff in the position of liability for dealing with the many varied medical issues that could appear. With this in mind, it is the intention of Woman Within International Ltd, along with the host region and the Weekend Leader body, to go back to a simpler time and allow women, participants and staff, to take full responsibility for their own safety and health care before, during and after a WWW. To this end, we have amended our health policy and our health care provisions for a WWW.

The following information will be included in the participant and staff packets sent out prior to the weekend; added to the Staff Responsibilities sheet for staff to remind participants during the phone call prior to the weekend; added to the PIES for Friday night; supplies list; and any other pertinent forms in the various sections of the Policy Manual.

Each woman will sign a declaration to indicate she understands her responsibility for her own health care needs.

Participants and Staff attending a Woman Within® Weekend, or any Woman Within International workshop, will take responsibility for their own health care needs before, during and after the Weekend.

If prescription medication is needed for allergies, medical conditions, sensitivities, etc, it is the responsibility of each woman to provide her own epi-pen, antibiotics, heart medication, etc. If OTC (over the counter) medications are needed, it is the responsibility of each woman to provide her own aspirin, antihistamines, cold capsules, cough drops, etc. Each woman is responsible to check the laws of the state that she will be visiting before traveling with her prescription medication, as not all medication is legal in all states.

If a woman forgets to bring prescription or OTC meds, it is her own responsibility to make necessary arrangements to acquire what she needs by contacting a local pharmacy or clinic. The staff of WW will not supply, nor administer, any medications.

There are safety staff assigned at each WWW; however, their skills and supplies are limited to addressing minor cuts and scrapes only. They are not qualified to administer medications or make a diagnosis of the situation. If in doubt, they will call the local emergency personnel on the woman’s behalf and ask the emergency personnel to come to the site and administer first aid to the woman in need of medical attention, at the expense of the woman herself. If the woman does not wish to be transported by ambulance, and chooses to be transported by automobile, she releases WW staff from liability. If the woman is unable to determine her best transportation option, WW staff members will determine the best option, at her expense.

Each woman is reminded to bring her own medical coverage information to the weekend, in case of emergency. i.e. health carrier, card number, phone number.

Participants and staff share sleeping space. There could be as many as 6-8 women per room. If a woman requires earplugs to help her sleep, she needs to bring her own.

The first aid kit is minimal and will consist of: bandages, antiseptic spray/wipes, non-latex gloves, scissors, medical tape & gauze, ointment, icepack, tweezers, CPR mouth-guard as well as local medical information such as local hospitals, clinics, emergency numbers, on call services. It is recommended that there be at least 2 first aid kits per weekend. Aspirin will be the one OTC medication to be kept current in the safety supplies. It is to be distributed at the discretion of the safety staff in the case of a woman presenting with a heart attack. The health benefits of administering aspirin in such a situation far outweigh any risk involved. Note: ASA bottles to be clearly marked: “For symptoms consistent with heart attack”.

It is also recommended that WW staff assigned to the Safety role have basic first aid certification and CPR or BLS Certification. Any situation requiring more than basic first aid should be dealt with by the local clinic, paramedics, ambulance service, etc. – call 911, or the local medical service.

Check List for First Aid Kit

Mandatory minimum:

• ample supply of non-latex gloves • bandages of various sizes/shapes, including triangular adhesive tape • triple antibiotic ointment • antiseptic wipes • Aspirin (81 mg each) NOT an aspirin substitute clearly marked: “For symptoms consistent with heart attack” • rolls of gauze • forceps -- 1 pair disposable splinter forceps (tweezers) • mouth guard (for CPR) • First Aid Book • ice packs -- 2 (to reduce swelling) • bandage scissors -- 1 pair information on local hospital, clinic, emergency numbers, on-call services

Optional: • hydrocortisone ointment -- 1 tube (for contact with poison ivy, oak) • Ace bandage -- include 1-4 inch roll • eye irrigating solution (e.g. Bausch and Lomb Eye Wash), 4 oz. • thermometer in good working order

An Occurrence Report is not necessary for minor scrapes and cuts. However, if medical assistance is sought beyond cleaning a wound and applying a dressing, then an Occurrence Report must be completed and filed with the Region and WWIL.

This policy is effective December 15th, 2007, with revision April 2016 re transportation.

Permanent Document in all Safety Staff Weekend folders:

Steps To Working with Occurrence Requiring More Than Basic First Aid

1) Staff member, who is first on the scene, stays with person who is ill or injured. 2) Send second person, if possible, to get Safety staff (know location and person’s name) 3) Safety Staff assesses person involved and keeps record of event, times and interventions. 4) May ask second Safety staff (or health professional on staff, if available), to assess as needed and collaborate on plan of action. 5) Notify Team Leader and WEL 6) If it is determined that person can be treated at Urgent care, during open business hours of that facility, decide who will transport, using staff or participant car per WW Safety. Safety staff goes with. 7) If it is determined that person needs Emergency care, call: USA - 911, UK - 999, France, Germany, South Africa - 112, Australia – 000 i) Person who is ill or injured, if able, contacts their emergency contact person to inform of the situation. If unable to make the call, Safety staff, TL or WEL will make this call. ii) TL arranges for someone to meet emergency vehicle and give directions to where person, who is ill or injured, is located. iii) Safety staff provides professional Emergency Responders with info on the event and on Health and Safety sheet regarding allergies, medications, contact info of person (on roster) and emergency contact. iv) Ensure person, who is ill or injured, has their medical insurance information with them. v) Determine if a staff follows ambulance based on condition (e.g. emergency contact is meeting ambulance at hospital). If participant is likely to return to weekend then a staff person would follow ambulance in order to transport her back to the site. 8) Safety Staff collaborates with WEL to complete Occurrence Report and delivers to WEL before end of staffing.

Woman Within® Weekend

SMALL GROUP LEADER – JOB DESCRIPTION

Small Group Leader: Your responsibility is to guide the Participants as they reflect on their Castle Drawing. Your job is to witness and meet them where they are. You model balanced leadership to both the Participants and staff throughout the Weekend.

During Team Building: Monitor the reactions of the Participants. Be particularly aware of body language, i.e. lack or eye contact or slumped shoulders.

During the Check-in: Listen and record the words used by the members of your group, especially the wounded child and what they fear. Form for this should be in your folder. If not, contact your team leader.

During the Castle Guided Imagery: Be aware of the members of your group during the meditation and note if they seem to be sleeping, looking around during meditation, etc. These are all clues to help us process.

During the Castle Drawing: Be aware of anyone that looks "frozen." Let her go through her process, if she remains frozen check with a Weekend Leader or Facilitator before approaching her.

Your purpose is to hold the container with your grounded presence and to observe.

As your group members are drawing, be aware of what they are communicating to you through their drawings. What are you feeling as you see what is on paper?

If a group member states directly to you that she cannot draw, encourage her to write in words on the paper what she saw, heard, or experienced.

Small Group Discussion: Meet with the other leader of your small group to determine how the two of you are going to work together. Please refer to Book of Readings: Processing the Castle Guided Dream (see attached). Keep time—five minutes per woman. After the discussion, record the main thing the woman discussed on the check in sheet and give to Weekend Leader.

During the Descent Process: Check with the Facilitator on your team to find out how and if she wants your feedback during the huddle.

During Informational Session:

Assure that Participants' plastic nametags are collected and packed away.

When finished, report that to Team Leader.

Small Group Discussions about the Castle Drawing (Two Pages)

When I look at your picture I feel (empty, sad, etc.).
