Some pairings—such as the iconic martini glass—might be obvious, but others might not be so evident. Stocking drink-specific glassware will show your patrons that you’re serious about the art of alcohol. Here’s a full glassware guide to lead you through your most creative cocktail pairings. The Basic Cocktail Glass COCKTAIL & SPIRIT COCKTAIL Beautiful glassware elevates the cocktail experience. Many classic glasses, like the martini glass, have been used for specific cocktails for decades. Others, like the more recent NEAT glass, are designed to accentuate the aromas of spirits. Cocktail and spirit glasses come in many different shapes and sizes. For a basic diagram, a typical glass has four main parts: brim, body, stem, and foot. Thanks to the limited surface area, tall and narrow-shaped glasses keep a drink cold and carbonated. SHOT SIP THIS This glass is meant for consuming a Tequila drink in one sip. They’re often filled with Whiskey a simple liquor, spirit, or a small extra- Fireball strength cocktail. Shot glasses come in a variety of shapes and sizes like basic, short, tall, and fluted. COSMOPOLITAN SIP THIS This elegant glass is great for Cosmopolitan Cosmopolitans (obviously) and a variety Aperitifs of other cocktails. The tapered design showcases the colors of the cocktail and draws the flavors and aromas to the top. SNIFTER SIP THIS This glass is usually used for aged brown Whiskey spirits such as whiskey, brandy, and Brandy fine rums. It has a very short stem, so the drinker’s hand will slowly warm the drink, and a large bowl for swirling. The short mouth traps the aromas, allowing the drinker to enjoy the intense smells as they sip. IRISH COFFEE SIP THIS The heat-resistant glass and handle Irish Coffee is perfect for holding and sipping hot Hot Toddy cocktails like an Irish Coffee or Hot Toddy comfortably. COCKTAIL & SPIRIT COCKTAIL STARTER PACK STARTER HURRICANE SIP THIS This glass was developed by New Orleans Hurricane tavern owner Pat O’Brien in the 1940s Blue Hawaii and named after its hurricane, lamp-like Piña Colada shape. This tall, curvy glass was originally Lava Flow used for the rum-based Hurricane cocktail, but it’s also used for cocktails like the Blue Hawaii and the Piña Colada. MARGARITA SIP THIS This glass is a variant of the classic Margarita on the Rocks champagne coupe. It has a large, Frozen Lime Margarita broad-rim so it can hold salt or sugar. Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri MOSCOW MULE MUG SIP THIS The Moscow Mule has been served in Moscow Mule a copper mug since it first appeared in Kentucky Mule the 1940s. The metal absorbs the cold temperature and helps keep the drink colder longer. When the drink is poured, the copper oxidizes and slightly boosts taste of the vodka, reduces the lime juice’s acidity, and increases the ginger beer bubbles. WHISKEY SOUR SIP THIS This glass is a shorter version of a basic Whiskey Sour wine glass. It’s used for drinks with a Amaretto Sour base spirit, a sweetener, lemon or lime Pisco Sour juice, and egg white. The glass’ thick Kamikaze stem provides stability and the narrow Sidecar top boosts and intensifies the aromas. ZOMBIE SIP THIS As you may have guessed, the Zombie Zombie glass was originally used to serve a drink Mojito COCKTAIL & SPIRIT COCKTAIL called the Zombie, a cocktail invented in Tom Collins the 1930s at the Beachcomber restaurant in Hollywood. The glass is typically taller than other glasses, coming in at around 7 or 8 inches tall and holding between 13 to 14 ounces of liquid. CORDIAL SIP THIS The elegant Cordial resembles a wine Cordial glass, but it’s more delicate, thinner, and After-Dinner Liqueur smaller.
