Biographies

Rachel and Jemima have been playing together as a Duo since March 2013, giving highly successful recitals in venues including St Martin-in-the-fields, Manchester Cathedral, Ripon Cathedral, Whitworth Art Gallery, the Bridgewater Introducing series, and award- winning performances in the Buxton Festival Fringe. The Duo has received coaching from musicians including Richard Davis and Stephen Preston and has a developing programme of outreach work with the Piccadilly Symphony Orchestra and other organisations.

Rachel is currently undertaking doctoral study at the RNCM, supported by an AHRC Studentship, previously studying at the RWCMD and the University of Manchester with Richard Davis, Andrew Nicholson and Peter Lloyd. Active as an orchestral and solo flautist, Rachel has performed in venues from the Wales Millennium Centre to the Royal Albert Hall, playing regularly with the Apollo Sinfonia, Amadeus Orchestra and Cheshire Sinfonia. Rachel is also an Army Reserve Musician with the Lancashire Artillery Band, providing musical support to the British Army everywhere from Bolton to the Falklands. www.racheljohnsonmusic.co.uk

Jemima is a Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music, and studied at the RNCM under Jeremy Young. She has performed in venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Symphony Hall (where she made her debut as a concerto soloist) and the Bridgewater Hall. Recent concerto repertoire includes Saint-Saen’s 2nd piano concerto, Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and Beethoven’s 3rd piano concerto. On top of being an active performer, accompanist and orchestral musician, Jemima is an enthusiastic teacher, current projects including delivering workshops for young offenders. www.jemimapalfreyman.co.uk
