L'evil against evil dello Sprechgesang Articolo di: Livia Bidoli [1] Il trip-hop oscuramente onirico di Tricky ha inaugurato il 22 giugno 2010 la stagione estiva di Luglio suona bene al Parco della Musica di Roma. Memorabile per il pubblico tutto senza distinzioni tra platea e tribuna: alla settima canzone, agitando la mano in modo perentorio, ha fatto salire il pubblico sul palco. La timidezza del primo a salire è durata qualche secondo, dopodiché un’ondata pacifica di gente ha invaso e attorniato i musicisti che imperterriti e per nulla stupiti, continuavano il concerto divertiti. Uno show che solo Devendra Banhart aveva potuto nella Sinopoli di qualche mese fa. Double-bass e dark serpeggiante – ha aperto il suo Nearly God del ’96 con la cover Tattoo da Siouxsie & The Banshees – in modalità elettro-rock: alle voci con lui (Adrian Thaws per l’anagrafe, 1968 nato a Bristol, UK), una suadente e sferzante Francesca Belmont alla voce femminile, chitarra di Tristan Cassel-Delavois, alle tastiere Gareth Bowen, un’eccelsa Julia Ruzicka al basso e lo scatenatissimo Paul White alla batteria. Uno dei fondatori dei Massive Attack nel 1987 col nickname di Tricky Kid, li ha lasciati per la carriera solista iniziata con Aftermath e la collaborazione con Martina Topley-Bird alla voce incidendo il singolo nel 1993. Due anni dopo rilascia l’album di esordio Maxinquaye dedicato alla madre omonima, morta per suicidio quando lui aveva quattro anni. Su Maxinquaye sono già presenti i suoi maggiori successi internazionali che abbiamo ascoltato nella serata di Roma: da Overcome, Black Steel, Pumpkin fino ad Aftermath. Overcome ha lo stesso testo di Karmacoma, che ha cantato con i Massive Attack su Protection del 1994, ne riportiamo un passo: Take a walk take a rest, a taste of rest/ Don't wanna be on top of your list,/Monopoly improperly kissed – fai una passeggiata, rilassati un pò/ Non voglio stare in cima alla tua lista/ Monopolio impropriamente baciato (trad.mia) Da Nearly God del 1996 ha tratto Poems, mentre una delle memorabili, la seconda della serata, è stata Psychosis con cui ha inscenato una personificazione di Cristo, battendosi il microfono sul petto: Sometimes the Rhyme has no meaning: unless you give it meaning/ He's falling, slowly falling, Jesus Christ – Qualche volta la rima non ha senso: a meno che tu non gli dia senso/ Sta cadendo, lentamente cadendo, Gesù Cristo (trad.mia) Il suo canto parlato, lo Sprechgesang, che trova le sue radici in Arnold Schönberg ed il suo Pierrot Lunaire (1912), porta dentro ramificazioni dell’aggressisività dei suoi testi , tutti venati di un’angoscia tipica delle cittadine periferiche inglesi: il suono di Bristol si avvicina molto a quello che accadeva invece a Brixton a fine anni ‘70 (sobborgo di Londra dove si sparavano tra neri e bianchi – come ben cantavano i Clash nell’omonima Guns of Brixton). Tricky ha suonato per due ore esatte cominciando alle 21.51, il ritardo dovuto alla pioggia battente nel pomeriggio, ed ha terminato alle 23.51 con l’estesissima e ipnotica Vent: can't stand to feel hate to feel gone insane hijack a plane don't push me cos i'm close to the edge i'm tryin' hard not to lose my head can hardly breathe non posso sentire/ odio sentire/ divento matto/ dirotto un aereo/ non spingermi perché sono vicino al picco/ sto provando sul serio a non perdere la testa/ quasi non riesco a respirare (trad. mia) Uno spettacolo messianico, rituale, di estrema compenetrazione col pubblico fin dall’inizio: una vera e propria performance condivisa fino all’ultimo sospirato (per cantato e per desiderato) brano. Chiude un cerchio che le ventate di fumo e di luce ottenebravano un poco, quel giusto che le rendeva trasparentemente e geometricamente irreali, un viaggio tra i Poems di Girls ed il Puppy Toy ancora da Knowle West Boy in una Evolution Revolution Love che lui vuole combattere “evil with evil” (male con male): you have to try and then say if you wanna. Bien que ceux-ci se soient excusés par la suite, le mouvement a continué à défendre des valeurs de tolérance et de compréhension mutuelle par l’organisation de concerts et festivals, auxquels public et artistes (The Clash, The Buzzcocks, etc.) ont afflué. Relancé en 2002 par une série de concerts “Love Music Hate Racism”, le mouvement RAR a rencontré le soutien des artistes Damon Albarn, Kaiser Chiefs, Asian Dub Foundation. Que cette première journée rayonne sur tout le festival ! 12 août Nouvelle Vague 16:30 - Grande Scène Le projet de Nouvelle Vague est de réarranger de façon personnelle les plus grands titres post punk du début des années 1980 qui sont très rarement repris car jamais vraiment considérés comme de vraies chansons. Puis par la suite les titres sont réarrangés en suivant une autre idée: les sonorités des caraïbes entre 1940 et 1970, soit le ska/rocksteady, le reggae, le calypso, la salsa cubaine, le vaudou haitien, etc. D'où des arrangements et orchestrations très colorées, beaucoup de percussions, des guitares acoustiques et des voix féminines, mais aussi un chanteur, de l'accordéon, du steel drum etc. Nouvelle Vague reprend les titres de grands groupes emblématiques comme Bauhaus ou Siouxsie, aussi bien que des pépites oubliées.

The city inhabited a black culture suffering from post-war economic effects and was cordoned off from other regions of New York City due to modifications in the highway system, making the people victims of “urban renewal.” (30) Given the opportunity to form new identities in the realm of hip-hop and share their personal accounts and ideologies, similar to traditions in African oral history, these people conceived a movement whose worldwide appeal impacted major events such as the Million Man March. Hip-hop’s enormous influence on the world is undeniable. In the isolated city of Bristol located in England arose a style of music dubbed trip-hop. The origins of trip-hop clearly trace to hip-hop, probably explaining why artists categorized in this genre vehemently oppose to calling their music trip-hop. They argue their music is hip-hop, or perhaps a fresh and original offshoot of hip-hop. Mushroom, a member of the trip-hop band Massive Attack, said, "We called it lover's hip hop. Forget all that trip hop bullshit. There's no difference between what Puffy or Mary J Blige or Common Sense is doing now and what we were doing…” (Bristol Underground Website) Trip-hop can abstractly be defined as music employing hip-hop, soul, dub grooves, jazz samples, and break beat rhythms.
