The ground-breaking finally took place on December 18, 2015, attended by representatives from the City, Stucor the construction company, Chairperson for the project Lion Ken HENDERSON, Freelton Lions Club members, and representatives from the community including young children who are looking forward to skating on it this winter. Charter Member Lion Frank JAMIESON performed the honours with the shovel. For many years he took on the task of making and maintaining a rink for the children every winter. This new facility should extend the skating season when the weather may not be the most co-operative. The project is now almost completed except for finishing touches, and they expect the keys to be turned over to the city in early October. After final inspection and assurance that everything is functioning properly, the Freelton Lions Club looks forward to inviting the community to join them in an open house celebration. The Lions have also upgraded the sign at the Freelton Community Park to an electronic type, which bears the Lions symbol, and “The Freelton Lions Club”. It is being programmed with a series of welcoming messages, and will be used to advertise local community activities. Freelton Lions are proud to complete these projects for LCI’s Centennial Year.
