(Signature, Date) Abstract This thesis aims to provide a comprehensive and systematic analysis about the growing popularity of Korean pop music (K-pop) worldwide in recent years. On one hand, the international expansion of K-pop can be understood as a result of the strategic planning and business execution that are created and carried out by the entertainment agencies. On the other hand, external circumstances such as the rise of social media also create a wide array of opportunities for K-pop to broaden its global appeal. The research explores the ways how the interplay between external circumstances and organizational strategies has jointly contributed to the global circulation of K-pop. The research starts with providing a general descriptive overview of K-pop. Following that, quantitative methods are applied to measure and assess the international recognition and global spread of K-pop. Next, a systematic approach is used to identify and analyze factors and forces that have important influences and implications on K-pop’s globalization. The analysis is carried out based on three levels of business environment which are macro, operating, and internal level. PEST analysis is applied to identify critical macro-environmental factors including political, economic, socio-cultural, and technological. -

Ans : Since Young , I was a teen who loved Robots personally, the most treasurable object was a gift from my father - a notebook , I still remember that it was given during my 3rd year of Junior High school . and I used it for 6 years . When I myself began to explore on many things , research on their specifications, thanks to the knowledge of using laptops, the function can also be expanded and implied. If the members have problems with their laptops, they will also asked me. Qn 3 : At times when there's a difference in the show times for the world tour , during the performance is there any amendments in any areas or sections ? Ans : In the process , an image (VCR) will be inserted into one of the sections ,it will be collaborated with the location of each place ,changes will be made , At Taiwan . it will be related to somewhere of it ,At Philippines , it will be also related to it , for example , In South America , the backdrop was a place with snow that was flying and floating around , so the editing was to be collaborated with the members camera for the images (VCR). -

Ans : I had always received lots of letters from boys and girls and also friends since I was in an elementary school and I always kept and treasure them too. Qn 2 : The most difficult time that happened during the world tour is ? Ans: The environment and the setting conditions are different for each country, when it is time for a performance , the helicopter cannot be used due to it settings being different , we will try to collabrate the solutions that happened on the spot and then solve those problems, this requires a better performance to be organize properly, and the workload will be increased and be much heavier, although there’ll be certain parts that has much disturbence , but we had already gone through it , so not much of a big problem . Qn 3 : Do you have a MC and a schedule for every different country ? Ans : For MC cases , we will try to use this country language , When organizing for South America tour , basically is using Spanish to communicate , we did some preparations . Qn 4 : In [Lo siento] , a Latin style and a passionate , sexy attitude is formed , being SUPER JUNIOR what type of challenge in style will you want to try out after today ? Ans : We have already given everyone a lot of different styles, why no return to this kind of fresh and cheerful style is not bad though. -

BAB I PENDAHULUAN 1.1 Latar Belakang Masalah Kemajuan teknologi yang semakin berkembang membuat masyarakat dapat dengan mudah mengakses berita-berita terbaru dari seluruh lapisan dunia. Pertukaran berita, budaya, hingga ide-ide kreatif dapat terjadi dengan cepat dan mudah. Sudah cukup banyak kreatifitas budaya dan seni yang mendunia seperti dari Amerika dan Jepang, tetapi pada masa sekarang ini, budaya Korea Selatan yang sedang menjadi lokomotif utama budaya kaum muda di seluruh kawasan lingkaran pasifik. Hampir seluruh masyarakat dunia merasakan “demam” Korea Selatan yang sedang mewabah ini. “Demam” Korea ini disebut dengan Korean Wave. Korean Wave adalah istilah yang dibuat oleh warga China sebagai arti kemajuan dari budaya Korea Selatan di dunia. Pada awalnya Korea Selatan terkenal dengan dunia film dan drama, namun sejak mewabahnya lagu “Gangnam Style” di tahun 2011, bidang musik Korea Selatan mulai menjadi pusat perhatian masyarakat dunia. Istilah musik populer asal Korea Selatan disebut dengan Korean Pop atau K-Pop. Jenis musik yang menarik ditambah dengan fisik artis-artis Korea Selatan yang tampan dan cantik membuat K-Pop sangat digemari. Begitu banyak jenis girls group dan boyband K-Pop berbakat yang muncul dengan berbagai kemampuan, jenis lagu, dan tarian. Dengan demikian, sulit untuk mengetahui 1 Universitas Kristen Maranatha 2 kelompok musik seperti apa yang menjadi idola. Beragam acara penghargaan dilakukan untuk memilih kelompok musik yang terbaik. Pada Agustus 2015, penghargaan Internasional The Teen Choice Award yang dilakukan di Los Angeles memberikan penghargaan kepada boyband asal Korea Selatan Super Junior sebagai Best International Artist. Situs SBS menambahkan, Super Junior bahkan mengalahkan boyband asal inggris yaitu One Direction. Kemenangan Super Junior membuktikan bahwa mereka behasil menjadi kelompok musik terbaik dari berbagai kelompok musik berbakat di Korea Selatan bahkan di dunia. -

Teóricamente se sustenta en las nociones de espacios de afinidad (Gee, 2005) y de cultura participativa (Jenkins, 2015). La metodología es de tipo cualitativo, se aplicaron entrevistas episódicas (Flick, 2007) a fans caleñas del grupo Super Junior. A partir de los datos, es posible señalar que en la configuración de los espacios de afinidad participan múltiples procesos, organizaciones y actores sociales, entre los que se destacan los sistemas de producción cultural o industrias culturales coreanas, ecosistemas de medios o redes sociales y las dinámicas participativas e interactivas de los fans, aspectos que favorecen la circulación e incorporación de productos culturales coreanos en un grupo de fans que residen en la ciudad de Santiago de Cali. -

KyuHyun was one of those “dangerous guys.” You know the kind. In fact, you know all too well the kind. The kind that gives off a chilling vibe when he walks, the kind that glares at you when you say his name, the kind that always has the stone cold killer stare, the kind that will destroy anything in his path. KyuHyun looked down, cocking his head to the right, thinking of what to say to Donghae once he sees him face-to-face. He moistened the corner of his mouth with his darting tongue eventually outlining his bottom and top lip slowly. Countless of things went through his head, “Should I just forgive him?” he questioned himself “Or should I punch him in the face?” A sly smile appeared on his thick lips. “Nah.” He shook his head jokingly, “I know exactly what to do.” Finally, KyuHyun reached to the front of the staircase leading to the entrance of the home, he pounded on the fragile wooden door. Inside; Donghae was dancing around his kitchen with his little French blue apron Eunhyuk had got him during their debut year. He pranced to his front door licking the rest of the cookie dough substance off his long fingers. Fishy swung the door wide open; “Hello~?” Donghae sung before looking into the eyes of the younger one standing before him. -

Online Fandom: Social Identity and Social Hierarchy of Hallyu Fans Atiqah Abd-Rahim Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, [email protected] ABSTRACT Hallyu fans are people who are dedicated to popular culture in South Korea, including music, drama and film. This study focuses on fans of Korean pop music, which is known as K-pop. Developments in digital communication technology have given rise to media such as forums, websites, video channels, and fan sites that are consumed by K-pop fans. Fans participate in multiple fandoms because these websites are easily accessed by public audiences. However, problems arise when fans start to compete, using their knowledge to help validate their existence and to help the perception of authentic identities within fan communities. This paper is based on virtual ethnographic fieldwork that identified fans’ constructions of their own identities and the building of a social hierarchy through various online practices. The research findings are based on four months of fieldwork with two online Hallyu fandoms; ELF (Ever Lasting Friends) and A.R.M.Y (Adorable Representative M.C. for Youth). The findings reveal that conflicts exist in certain fandoms which aid in defining fan identities and, at the same time, fans undertake positive socialising actions which contribute to the fandom itself. Interactions between fandoms also need to be recognised, since online fandoms can be seen as borderless.
