DRAFT SECOND READING SPEECH HON WILL HODGMAN MP Constitution Amendment (House of Assembly Electoral Boundaries) Bill 2018 *check Hansard for delivery* I move – That the Constitution Amendment (House of Assembly Electoral Boundaries) Bill 2018 now be read for the second time. The Commonwealth recently reviewed the House of Representatives boundaries in Tasmania. This review was part of an independent redistribution of federal electoral boundaries, required under the Commonwealth Electoral Act 1918. The previous redistribution of the federal electoral boundaries in Tasmania was completed in 2009. The redistribution of electoral boundaries usually reflects population changes to ensure an even and fair allocation of voters among the electorates. Having even electorates is an important element of retaining ‘fairness’ in our voting system and indeed our democracy. On 14 November 2017, the Commonwealth augmented Electoral Commission for Tasmania announced new boundaries for the federal electorates in Tasmania. The augmented Commission consisted of the three members of the Australian Electoral Commission, the Australian Electoral Officer for Tasmania, Mr David Molnar, the Surveyor-General of Tasmania, Mr Michael Giudici, and the Auditor-General of Tasmania, Mr Rod Whitehead. The augmented Commission also announced that the division of ‘Denison’ be renamed to the division of ‘Clark’. This name change recognises the role of Andrew Inglis Clark in the creation of the Australian Federation. The new name and boundary changes will apply from the next federal election. However, these Commonwealth changes do not automatically apply as State electoral boundaries in Tasmania. In the past, the Tasmanian Parliament has chosen to adopt the Commonwealth House of Representatives boundaries for the purposes of House of Assembly divisions by amending the Constitution Act 1934 to ensure they coincide. -

Canada C3 will be in Nunavut between approximately July 29, 2017 and approximately September 5, 2017. Hudson Bay Ice Conditions ERIC W. DANIELSON, JR.l ABSTRACT.Monthly mean ice cover distributions for Hudson Bay have been derived, based upon an analysis of nine years of aerial reconnaissance and other data. Information is presented in map form, along with diseussian Of significant features. Ice break-up is seen to work southward from the western, northern, and eastern edges of the Bay; the pattern seems to be a result of local topography, cur- rents, and persistent winds. Final melting occurs in August. Freeze-up commences in October, along the northwestern shore, and proceeds southeastward. The entire Bay is ice-covered by early January,except for persistent shore leads. RÉSUMÉ. Conditions de la glace dans la mer d’Hudson. A partir de l’analyse de neuf années de reconnaissances aériennes et d’autres données, on a pu déduire des moyennes mensuelles de distribution de la glace pour la mer d’Hudson. L‘informa- tion est présentte sous formes de cartes et de discussion des Cléments significatifs. On y voit que la débâcle progresse vers le sud à partir des marges ouest, nord et est dela mer; cette séquence sembleêtre le résultat de la topographielocale, des courants et .des vents dominants. La fonte se termine en aofit. L’enge€wommence en octobre le long de la rive nord-ouest et progresse vers le sud-est. Sauf pow les chenaux côtiers persistants, la mer est entihrement gelée au début de janvier. INTRODUCTION In many respects, ice cover is a basic hydrometeorological variable. In Hudson Bay (Fig. 1) it might be considered the most basic of all, as it influences all other conditions so decisively. -

ARCTIC VOL. 56, NO. 4 (DECEMBER 2003) P. 321–327 New Ways of Mapping: Using GPS Mapping Software to Plot Place Names and Trails in Igloolik (Nunavut) CLAUDIO APORTA1 (Received 11 July 2001; accepted in revised form 10 February 2003) ABSTRACT. The combined use of a GPS receiver and mapping software proved to be a straightforward, flexible, and inexpensive way of mapping and displaying (in digital or paper format) 400 place names and 37 trails used by Inuit of Igloolik, in the Eastern Canadian Arctic. The geographic coordinates of some of the places named had been collected in a previous toponymy project. Experienced hunters suggested the names of additional places, and these coordinates were added on location, using a GPS receiver. The database of place names thus created is now available to the community at the Igloolik Research Centre. The trails (most of them traditional, well-traveled routes used in Igloolik for generations) were mainly mapped while traveling, using the track function of a portable GPS unit. Other trails were drawn by experienced hunters, either on paper maps or electronically using Fugawi mapping software. The methods employed in this project are easy to use, making them helpful to local communities involved in toponymy and other mapping projects. The geographic data obtained with this method can be exported easily into text files for use with GIS software if further manipulation and analysis of the data are required. It includes considerations on how the carved objects affected and played a role in Dorset social life. To consider the role of people, things and other beings that may be said to play as actors in interdependent entanglements of actions, the agency/actor- network theory is employed. From this theoretical review an interpretation of social life as created by the ways people interact with the material world is presented. This framework is employed as a lens into the social role and meaning the carvings played in the Dorset society. The examined assemblages were recovered from a series of Dorset settlement sites, mainly in house, midden, and burial contexts, providing a substantive case study through which variations and themes of carvings are studied. -

TRANSLITTERERING OCH ALTERNATIVA GEOGRAFISKA NAMNFORMER Version XX, 27 juli 2015, Stefan Nordblom 1 FÖRORD För många utländska egennamn, i första hand personnamn och geografiska namn, finns det på svenska väl etablerade namnformer. Om det inte finns någon sådan kan utländska egennamn dock vålla bekymmer vid översättning till svenska. Föreliggande material är tänkt att vara till hjälp i sådana situationer och tar upp fall av translitterering1 och transkribering2 samt exonymer3 . Problemen uppstår främst på grund av att olika språk har olika system för translitterering och transkribering från ett visst språk och på grund av att orter kan ha olika namn på olika utländska språk. Eftersom vi oftast översätter från engelska och franska innehåller sammanställningen även translittereringar och exonymer på engelska och franska (samt tyska). Man kan alltså i detta material göra en sökning på sådana namnformer och komma fram till den svenska namnformen. Om man t.ex. i en engelsk text träffar på det geografiska namnet Constance kan man söka på det namnet här och då få reda på att staden (i detta fall på tyska och) på svenska kallas Konstanz.
