S., Programme of Regional Planning Supervisor: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serap Kayasü September 2012, 182 Pages The main purpose of this study is to determine the problems of thermal tourism as a kind of alternative tourism in Turkey investigating within the context of legislative- organizational aspects and planning dimensions. The study is also submitting some suggestions about solutions. After the announcement of the conceptual framework related with thermal tourism, the research provides general information about the countries important for thermal tourism sector in the global world. The study examines the planning process and the organizational structure related to thermal tourism sector showing two different tendencies in Heviz in Hungary and Peninsula Hot Springs in Australia in order to investigate different aspects of the development of thermal tourism in detail. Then; the thesis handles the development of thermal tourism in Turkey and it also describes the reasons of the underdevelopment of thermal tourism in respect of legislative-organizational aspects and planning dimensions in Turkey. Finally, in the last chapter; assessments carried out by examining the current situation in Nevsehir Kozaklı Thermal Tourism Center and suggestions for solving the problems in practice are offered. In conclusion, this study offers some suggestions about the improvement of thermal tourism in Turkey in legislative-organizational and spatial aspects. Abstract Radioactivity measurements were performed, at the Yalova (Turkey), part of the Marmara Sea, for natural radiation using a scintillation detector SP6 (via using portable counter ESP2, Eberline). Based on the measurement results, the lowest outdoor gamma concentration was calculated to 27.70 nGy/h while the highest one calculated to 66.00 nGy/h. And, the average of the measured gamma dose rates calculated to 48.13 nGy/h while the annual effective dose equivalent was calculated to 59.02 μSv/y. Mean value of excess lifetime cancer risk also obtained 2.07 10-4 from using measurement area. The results checked against the world average determined by UNSCEAR. It was concluded that the calculated gamma dose values in Yalova are below the world average.

Population structure is closely related with political, economic and social circumstances. In addition, developments in rural and urban population are also indications of the development levels. Popula- tion movements are quite important in our study area. Subject classification: Armutlu Peninsula; Attenuation; Coda wave quality factor; Geothermal sources; North Anatolian Fault Zone. ABSTRACT The Armutlu Peninsula, is located in a geologically complex system on the North Anatolian Fault Zone and inside the high populated Mar- mara Region. Due to its location and importance, the Marmara Region has been subject to various studies in the past; now, this study is aimed to determine the local attenuation characteristic of the Armutlu Peninsula. In this study, 75 earthquake data that were recorded between 2013- 2014, were analyzed by 9 seismic stations. The magnitudes (Ml) and the focal depths of the earthquakes vary from 1.5 to 3.3 and 0.9 to 16.9 km, respectively. A single back-scattering model was used for calculation of the coda wave quality factor. The lapse times were determined between 20 and 40 s at intervals of 5 s and they were filtered at central frequencies of 1.5, 3, 6, 9 and 12 Hz band-pass designed filter. Min- imum 5 signal/noise ratio and 0.7 correlation coefficient data used to obtain reliable results. The CODAQ subroutine integratedin the SEISAN software was used for data processing. For each station, low values of the quality factor at 1 Hz (Qo) and high values of the frequency de- 0.91 0.72 pendent parameter (n) were determined.

Anahtar Kelimeler: Sakarya, Termal Turizm, Akyazı, Kuzuluk, Taraklı JEL Kodu: I19, L83, Evaluation of Thermal Tourism Potentıal of Sakarya Abstract: Thermal tourism is an important alternative for tourism spread with in the context of time and place. With this research it is aimed to evaluate the thermal tourism potential of Sakarya that has been waiting for handling in the meaning for domestic and international tourism for a long time. In accordance with this purpose face to face interviews were conducted with local government and business in Kuzuluk and Taraklı destinations in Sakarya. The evaluation of the data obtained in talks is subjected to descriptive analysis and is tried to explain in the part of “findings”. As a result of the research it can be said that, Sakarya has come a long way in thermal tourism especially in domestic tourism but it is not yet at the desired level, especially in terms of foreign tourism.
