Sara James is an Emmy award-winning foreign correspondent, author, and commentator with expertise in international affairs, politics and education. James was born and raised in the . She covers Australia and the Pacific Region for NBC News, filing reports for The Today Show, Dateline and NBC Nightly News.

Prior to moving to Australia in 2008, James was based in New York where she reported on some of the most significant international stories of our era, including 9/11 in her hometown. James also covered the Taliban of Afghanistan, modern day slavery in Sudan, the Bosnian War Crimes Tribunal, the Oklahoma City bombing, famine and strife in Somalia, and political upheaval in Haiti. James was the first network reporter to travel to the bottom of the Atlantic to the site of the Titanic. James served as substitute newsreader on The Today Show and as guest host of Weekend Today. She frequently anchored on MSNBC and was the first host of NBC Nightside.

James's work as a journalist has garnered numerous awards. Her report on Australia's Stolen Generation won the Overseas Press Club of America Citation for Excellence. She received the US National Press Club award for her investigation of modern day slavery in Sudan, a New York Festival award for her report on the first woman considered for the US space program, a Headliner Award for her report on a victim of the September 11th bombings, and a Gracie for her story about methamphetamine addiction in women. James received an Emmy Award for her coverage of the shootings at Columbine High School in Colorado.

Some of James's assignments include reporting on the downing of MH17, the 2014 tour of Australasia by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince George, the 2011 earthquake in Christchurch New Zealand, devastating floods in Queensland, the 2009 Black Saturday bush fires in her home state of Victoria, and the return of artwork by children of the Stolen Generation to Western Australia.

James is an accomplished public speaker who has addressed major audiences in the United States and Australia. She also serves as a moderator and facilitator for organisations such as Westpac and for specialised events including a recent invitation- only forum for some of the most celebrated CEOs in Australia.

In 2014 James served as MC of the American Australian Association annual dinner in Perth. The audience included a host of dignitaries, including the US Ambassador to Australia John Berry and Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop. She also served as MC for the Op Shop Ball to support Australian Olympic Gold Medallist Alisa Camplin's charity, Finnan's Gift and as MC of the Boston-Melbourne Sister Cities Gala.

James's latest book An American in Oz was released by Allen and Unwin in March, 2014. It details her family's move from Manhattan to country Victoria. James discusses both her life as a reporter and her role as mother of two children, one of whom has significant special needs. Her book An Extraordinary School about Port Phillip Specialist School in Melbourne was released in May 2012. Her first book The Best of Friends co- authored with National Geographic wildlife filmmaker Ginger Mauney, was published in 2007 by HarperCollins and favourably reviewed by The New York Times.
