The British monarchy on screen oving images of the British monarchy, in fact and fiction, are almost as M old as the moving image itself, dating back to an 1895 dramatic vignette, The Execution of Mary Queen of Scots. Led by Queen Victoria, British monarchs themselves appeared in the new ‘animated photography’ from 1896. Half a The British century later, the 1953 coronation of Elizabeth II was a milestone in the adoption of television, watched by 20 million Britons and 100 million North Americans. At the century’s end, Princess Diana’s funeral was viewed by 2.5 billion worldwide. monarchy Historians have argued that the power of the image has bolstered the British monarchy as its political power has waned, but media scholars have been slow to examine how that power has been secured by royal self-promotion, entrepreneurial on screen deference, narrative sympathy, reportorial discretion and spectacular exhibition. In the first book-length examination of film and television representations of this enduring institution, distinguished scholars of media and political history analyse the screen representations of royalty from Henry VIII to ‘William and Kate’. Among their concerns are the commercial value of royal representations, the convergence of the monarch and the movie star, and the historical use of the moving image to maintain the Crown’s legitimacy. Seventeen essays by international commentators examine the portrayal of royalty in the ‘actuality’ picture, the early extended feature, amateur cinema, Edited by Mandy Merck the movie melodrama, the Commonwealth documentary, New Queer Cinema, TV current affairs, the big screen ceremonial and the post-historical boxed set.

Fire Warrior Amidst the war and destruction of the grim far future, the fledgling Tau Empire has but one aim — to unite the galaxy under its benevolent banner. But when one of the Tau's ruling elite crash lands behind Imperial battle lines, it falls to Kais, a young Fire Warrior, to attempt a desperate rescue mission and offer his life for the greater good. But as the mission begins and the death count rises, Kais quickly learns that the brutal reality of battle is a far cry from the training grounds of his home world. 1.0 — создание FB2, дополнительное форматирование; без вычитки (k78) SIMON SPURRIER FIRE WARRIOR (Warhammer 40,000) It is the 41st millennium. • Anointing the King Hallowing Hope for the World in the English Coronation
ANOINTING THE KING HALLOWING HOPE FOR THE WORLD IN THE ENGLISH CORONATION A Thesis submitted to the Faculty of The School of Continuing Studies and of The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Liberal Studies By Susan E. Bond, M.A.T.S. Georgetown University Washington, D.C. November 27, 2018 ANOINTING THE KING HALLOWING HOPE FOR THE WORLD IN THE ENGLISH CORONATION Susan E. Bond, M.A.T.S. D.L.S. Chair: Gregory C. Havrilak, Ph.D. ABSTRACT By means of her anointing, in an order of service that dates to the anointing and crowning of King Edgar at Bath in 973 as the first King of All England, Elizabeth II carries into the present age a profound theology of kingship first articulated in the early 1100s by the Norman Anonymous and more fully by John Wycliffe in the fourteenth century, in which the sovereign is the living embodiment of Christ the king: Rex imago Christi. Great Britain is the last Christian monarchy to anoint its sovereign. The thesis is that the ideal of Christological kingship continues to obtain today although in a radically different historical and political context than that of its beginnings. History and liturgical theology are the methods of approach. As a history, the paper looks to the historical context of anointing, which leads to an examination of anointing the king in the modern context. As liturgical theology, the paper examines the meaning of imago Christi as it pertains to the anointing and hallowing of the image of the human person (imago hominis) in the eternal image of Christ the king.
