Despite a first half double-double from OVC Preseason Player of the Year Elle Harmeyer, Murray State hung with Belmont for most of the first half. However, in the second, the Bruins proved why they were picked to win the league for a fifth-straight year, taking down the Racers, 86-56, Thursday night at the CFSB Center. Macey Turley led MSU in the game with 11 points, while Ashley Hunter had a career-high 10 points and Alexis Burpo tied her career mark for rebounds. Against TSU, The Racers opened the game on a 20-7 run and never looked back in a contest that saw all five starters reach double figures and three of them notch double-doubles. The Racers also notched 30-plus points in two separate quarters after having only reached the same milestone once prior to Saturday. Laci Hawthorne led Murray State Saturday with 21 points and a career-high 14 points for her third double-double of the season. Macey Turley recorded the first double-double of her career as she had 15 points and 10 assists, while Alexis Burpo recorded her second, but first with assists as she finished with 17 points and 10 assists. Macie Gibson was two rebounds away from her own-double double as she has 14 points and eight boards, while Lex Mayes had 17 points including a 5-for-10 performance from 3-point range. THURSDAY’S OPPONENT: vs. Eastern Illinois Panthers Jan. 20, 2020 5 p.m. CFSB Center SERIES HISTORY: The Racers lead the Panthers in the all-time series 32-20 and have won seven of the last eight meetings. Eastern Illinois put an end to a six-game win streak by the Racers last season in Charleston, but the Racers bounced back with an overtime win in Murray later in the season. Last season’s win at home was the fourth-straight win by Murray State at the CFSB Center and improved its record against EIU in Murray to 20-6. SCOUTING REPORT: After splitting with UT Martin and SEMO last week, the Panthers are now 11-8 overall and 5-3 in OVC play. Eastern Illinois is currently averaging 65.3 points per game, while allowing 60.6 points per game. The Panthers are currently shooting 40.1-percent from the floor, 32.1-percent from 3-point range and 70.4-percent from the free throw line. Karle Pace currently leads four Panthers in double-digits with 14.1 points per game. On the boards, Abby Wahl and Lariah Washington lead the way for EIU with 5.4 rebounds per game each.
