Eagle Greats of the Past...

Wayne Martin and Mickey Wells were both members of the Eagle team during their days as students at MSU. And, even though you probably won't find either of their names in the records section of this media guide for their playing accom­ plishments, both used their association with Eagle basketball and the University as a springboard for outstanding coaching careers. Both were inducted into the Morehead State University Athletic Hall of Fame in October.

Ranked second on the team and 11th in the league in scoring and first on the team and fourth in the league in assists. Other OVC statistical rankings include fourth in free throw percentage, fourth in three-point per­ centage and fifth in three-point average. Had a streak of 31 consecu­ tive free throws. Came to MSU after an excellent career with the highly successful Sullivan College program. Historically Morehead State University traces its lineage to the Morehead Normal School, which opened its doors in 1887. The pri vale school c losed in the spring of L922 when the Kentucky General Assembly established Morehead State Normal School. Since then, the University has grown from a teachers college lo a regional university that serves Kentucky and Appalachia. Until university status was granted in 1966, the institution's primary mission was U1e training of teachers. However, the curriculum now embraces nearly 130 academic programs on the associate, baccalaureate, and graduate levels. Physically, the University consists of more Uian fifty major structures valued at more than $ I 'I O million. There are more than 38,000 MSU alumni. Administratively, the University operates under an I I -member Board of Regents that consists of e ight cilizens appointed by the governor of Kentucky, with three other seats held by e lected faculty, staff and student representatives. The administrative structure covers primarily four areas: academic affairs, administration and fiscal services, university advancement and student life.
