Brayan Rocchio and Mike Amditis also homered in the win. All of Dayton’s runs came in a four-run ninth inning against reliever Kevin East Division W L GB Kelly. Dragons starter Noah Davis took the loss. He allowed three runs over 5.2 innings, due in part to five walks and two batsmen. LAST TIME OUT: Coulter pitched two innings in relief on Sunday at West Michigan. The right-hander allowed one run on three hits with three and no walks. The lone run Coulter surrendered came in the seventh inning when he allowed a leadoff single to Daniel Cabrera and was pulled from the game. Jared Janczak then gave up a two-run to Dillon Dingler to score Coulter’s runner, Cabrera. The Captains lost, 7-1. Coulter did not factor in the decision.

FIRST START: Kevin Coulter makes his first career start tonight after making 24 relief appearances in his first two pro seasons. Coulter has served as a piggyback pitcher. The right-hander’s longest career appearance is four innings (May 13, 2021 vs. Fort Wayne). Coulter fills in for LHP Matt Turner who was placed on the Injured List last week with left elbow soreness.

2019: Across 18 appearances Coulter compiled 36.1 innings out of the in the Arizona league and finished the season with a 2.23 ERA. After allowing at least one earned run in his first four appearances Coulter found his rhythm in July, only giving up one earned run eight appearances and 14.1 innings in the month. He began to stretch his arm out in August finishing the season with three straight appearances in which he threw three or more innings.

BEAR DOWN: Coulter had an up and down career at Mercer where he finished with a career 4.74 ERA. He bounced back and forth between a starting role and the bullpen where he accumulated five saves across his four-year career, including three as a senior in the first three games of the Bears season. His best season came as a senior. After starting the year in the bullpen he was moved to the rotation where he made 11 consecutive starts before bouncing back to the ‘pen to finish the season.
