Established 1990 PLANT LIST 2016 European mail order website www.crug-farm.co.uk CRÛG FARM PLANTS • 2016 Welcome to our 2016 list hope we can tempt you with plenty of our old favourites as well as some exciting new plants that we have searched out on our travels. There has been little chance of us standing still with what has been going on here in 2015. The year started well with the birth of our sixth grandchild. January into February had Sue and I in Colombia for our first winter/early spring expedition. It was exhilarating, we were able to travel much further afield than we had previously, as the mountainous areas become safer to travel. We are looking forward to working ever closer with the Colombian institutes, such as the Medellin Botanic Gardens whom we met up with. Consequently we were absent from the RHS February Show at Vincent Square. We are finding it increasingly expensive participating in the London shows, while re-branding the RHS February Show as a potato event hardly encourages our type of customer base to visit. A long standing speaking engagement and a last minute change of date, meant that we missed going to Fota near Cork last spring, no such problem this coming year. We were pleasantly surprised at the level of interest at the Trgrehan Garden Rare Plant Fair, in Cornwall. Hopefully this will become an annual event for us, as well as the Cornwall Garden Society show in April. Poor Sue went through the wars having to have a rush hysterectomy in June, after some timely results revealed future risks. -

Flowers blood-red, the anthers apparently white or yellowish. The upper bract-like oblong-ovate leaves are merely crenate. Each leaf-crenation is tipped with one long cilium. Densely appressed silky-villous simple-stemmed shrub with crowded linear-lanceolate sessile leaves and long terminal racemes of leafy bracted greenish yellow or reddish tinged subtubular flowers; leaves subentire or obscurely crenate-serrulate, 8-12 cm. long, about 1 cm. wide, acute base and apex; calyx 3.5-4 cm. long, 8-10 mm. wide, sepals lanceolate, acuminate, 7-8 mm. long, 2 mm. wide at base, the petals shorter and narrower; crown irregularly and slightly dentate; capsule included or barely exserted; seeds minutely and obscurely striate. To about 1 meter high in steep, loose, rocky soils. Species distinctive in its closely appressed sericeous pubes- cence. -

Passiflora Tarminiana, a New Cultivated Species of Passiflora Subgenus

Abstract The new species Passiflora tarminiana differs from its closes relative by the character combination of very small acicular stipules and large almost reflexed petals and sepals. This species has escaped detection despite being widely cultivated. Naturalized populations, particularly on Hawa'ii, have created problems for conservation of the native flora. In Colombia it is more frequently adopted in industrial cultivation because of its rusticity and resistance to fungal diseases. Introduction Passifloras of the subgenus Tacsonia are cultivated by many small farmers, from Venezuela to Bolivia. Some species are cultivated in New Zealand. The main cultivated species is Passiflora mollissima (Kunth) Bailey (Escobar, 1980 & 1988), also called P. Coppens et al. 2000 Passiflora tarminiana 2 tripartita var. mollissima (Kunth) Holm-Nielsen & P. Jørgensen (Holm-Nielsen et al., 1988). It is called "curuba de Castilla" in Colombia, "tacso de Castilla" in Ecuador, and “banana passionfruit” in English-speaking countries.. The second species of importance in the Andes is "curuba india," "curuba ecuatoriana," or "curuba quiteña" in Colombia, called "tacso amarillo" in Ecuador (Pérez Arbeláez, 1978; A.A.A., 1992; Campos, 1992). It is most frequently found in private gardens, but some commercial growers have, because of its rusticity, started to grow it instead of the "curuba de Castilla." We describe this overlooked cultigen as a new species under the name Passiflora tarminiana, in recognition of Tarmín Campos, a Colombian agronomist who contributed with enthusiasm to the development of banana passion fruit cultivation and introduced the first author to the cultivated passifloras of the central Colombian highlands. -

Plants from the family Passiflora have been used in standard drug by various social orders. Flavonoids, glycosides, alkaloids, phenolic blends and eccentric constituents have been represented as the major phyto- constituents of the Passiflora spe-cies. This overview delineates the morphology, standard and tales uses, phyto- constituents and pharmacological reports of the prominent kinds of the sort Passiflora. Diverse virgin areas of investigation on the kinds of this sort have been highlighted to examine, detach and recognize the therapeutically huge phyto- constituents which could be utilized to help various diseases impacting the mankind. The objective of the current examination was to concentrate all Passiflora species. The sythesis of each specie presented particularities; this legitimizes the essentialness of studies concentrating on the phenolic bit of different Passiflora species. The objective of the study was to evaluate the pollen morphology of 18 Passiflora species in order to identify informative pollinic characteristics to contribute to the taxonomic classification of the genus. The morphology of the pollen grains and the exine structure were investigated using light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Differences in the pollen morphology were found in the studied species, mainly in terms of shape, pollen aperture and ornamentation pattern of the exine. Most of the species belonging to the subgenus Passiflora presented ornamented 6-syncolpate pollen grains with an oblate-spheroidal shape and an exine with large lumens. In the subgenus Decaloba the pollen grains were 6-colporate, 12-colpate and 12-colporate, with subprolate to prolate-spheroidal shape, as well as an exine with smaller lumen size and few ornamented. -

This addendum was created to incorporate newly listed species, genus name changes, subsumed species (i.e. incorporated into another genus), new subspecies and recommended deletions. It also provided the opportunity to correct mistakes identified in the original edition. The addendum also includes detailed profiles of ten of the newly identified species. Corrections to 2002 Edition Acacia Mucronata (variable sallow wattle p. 58) :Another common name for this species is Mountain Willow Gastrodia Species - There are very few collections of Gastrodia from King Island.
