After losing four starters from last year's Lincoln Trail Conference and regional championship team, there were a lot of holes to fill. But the team came out strong. Not only did they repeat as Lincoln Trail Conference Champions, but they also advanced to the sectional for the second con- secutive year. The team ended the season with an overall record of 19-5-3 and a con- ference record of 8-0. This included a conference cham- pionship, a regional champi- onship, and second place in the Wethersfield Invita- tional. Next year holds a lot of promise for Flying Geese Volleyball. We will return nine letter winners along with a new group of talented incoming juniors. Top Left: The 1996 Volleyball Team: Bottom Row: Coach Looney, Coach Fairman. Second Row: A. Perkins, J. Bottom Left: Melissa spikes the ball past a Williamsfield blocker. Bottom Right: Becky bumps the ball over the net. Sports 15 we Will Ed yj The Wethersfield Fresh/Soph football team relied on size, speed, and physical ability to compile a 9-0 record and finish in first place in the Lincoln Trail Conference. The success they ex- perienced was the result of a team ef- fort. Upper Left: Rockridge proves to be no problem for Chadd as he runs the ball. Upper Middle: Chris gains yardage against the opposing team. Upper Right: John battles for the ball. Middle Left: Tony flies down the field as the crowd goes wild. Middle Right: The Geese destroy Rockridge for another victory. Bottom Left: Nick races to the end zone. Bottom Right: Brad picks up speed as he runs for a score. 16 Sports ^Arre I/JOIA Keadu wr J^>ome ^Jootbail: The 1996 edition of Flying Geese Football saw the Geese return 8 letterman from a very successful 9 and 2 team from 1995. The operative word in most circles was "rebuild- ing" with 15 seniors graduating from the previous year. However, the '96 Geese would have none of it posting an excellent 7 and 3 record and losing in the first round of the 1A playoffs to a very strong Cambridge squad. The Geese were led by seniors T.J. Dura, Jay Gun- ning, and Doug Brown in the offensive backfield with Ja- son Vanwassenhove, Luke Farran, Guy Robinson, and Darrel Peck manning the offensive line. Dura, Gunning, and Peck also played defense along with senior defensive back Craig Hillier.
