MEETING NOTICE:

DATE: Thursday, May 18, 2017 TIME: 7:00 PM, SHARP PLACE: THE CLARION 3845 Veterans Memorial Hwy. Ronkonkoma, NY 11779 (631-585-9500)

PROGRAM: Dave Kennedy 631-589-4527 -Tom Homestead of Forest Hills Financial will present “Planning for your Future.” -Ron Linsaloto, Southampton Electrical Inspector will present “Common Violations.”

EDITORIAL According to a PSEG LI email, May is Electrical Safety Month. Many years ago, SCECA would observe the month by providing flyers and demonstrations for the public. The event venue was a large mall, originally in Nassau, and eventually in Suffolk. The event fell out of favor with mall owners, and the few dedicated SCECA members eventually grew weary in their effort.

In reality, every month should be an observation of electrical safety. Most recently, Board member Brian Kosin did a presentation for a Sachem elementary class. The students created electrical safety posters, and the best were on display at SCECA’s Vendors Night Trade Show. These students will receive a token award from SCECA. We hope that all of you licensed professionals make an effort to be safe, and pass along safety tips to your family, friends and customers.

To those who participated in our Trade Show, thank you so much for your efforts.

Please note (and promote) our Lucky Louie Dinner Dance June 2, honoring our own Russ Calemmo. SCECA Officers and Board will also be sworn in.

SCECA Board and Officers wish our members, friends and family a Happy Memorial Day, as we remember those who gave their all to make and keep the USA safe and free. A Happy Mothers' day to Moms & Grandmothers. God bless them.

* * * * * LANDSCAPE LIGHTING: Joe Mikulas, 631-472-3408 According to Suffolk County, contractors must be licensed to install landscape lighting. They may hold a low voltage license, or a master electrical license. In either case, we have heard reports from SCECA members that landscapers are performing this work, and most, without a restricted or master electrical license. In fact, a local landscape supply company is offering to train landscapers. This, in essence, is taking away work that might be yours, or, at the very least, a duly licensed contractor. Readers are advised to report these incidents to the Electrical Licensing section of Suffolk Dept. of Labor.

On a brighter note, AC Electrical Supply recently sponsored a Low Voltage Training Seminar. Readers can easily reference the ads in this newsletter for reputable suppliers of landscape lighting products. Revco has recently changed their ad to promote landscape lighting.

In any case, we urge you to report unlicensed work, and patronize your local supply house, most especially our advertisers. THE LIGHT MAY 2017 PAGE 8 THE LIGHT MAY 2017 PAGE 9 THE LIGHT MAY 2017 PAGE 10 THE LIGHT MAY 2017 PAGE 10A THE LIGHT MAY 2017 PAGE 10B

Patchogue Electric Motors Inc 71 Sycamore Street Patchogue, NY 11772 631-475-0117 631-475-0609F [email protected]

After nearly 62 years in business, I am retiring and selling my business. I have proudly carried on the family firm started by my father John Tabone in 1955. He brought the family from College Point, Queens to Patchogue in the summer of that year to open Patchogue Electric Motors. His original shop consisted of one side of a two car garage on River Avenue in Patchogue. The business grew quickly and before long the entire garage wasn’t even large enough. He relocated to 195 Medford Avenue in 1957. That location served him well until moving to the current location at 71 Sycamore Street in 1961. That location has expanded several times over the years to the current size. I actively joined the firm in 1972 at the age of 23, although growing up with a family business I was versed in some of the office work as well as some repair work from much earlier years.

At 68 years of age I have decided it is time to “hang up my tools”. Effective May 1st 2017, I have sold my business to Mike Paciulli. Mike owns DP Electric Motor Service located at 493-7 Johnson Avenue in Bohemia. He has been in business well over 30 years and is a very reputable shop to deal with. We have always had a good working relationship and in recent years his shop has been where my rewinding has been done. Patchogue Electric Motors will continue in business at the DP location and all phone, fax, and email contacts will be retained.

I will be working with Mike for several months during the transition period. John Gersic, my long time employee, will be transferring to Mike’s shop as well so you will be seeing a familiar face even after I retire completely. There are no immediate plans to make any changes to the operation. In essence things will continue in a “Business as Usual” manner. And even after my full retirement Mike will be able to contact me for any questions that may arise.

I hope to make the transition as smooth as possible for all my existing customers. Mike and his crew are a great group of people. In all the years of business we have rarely competed with each other since our customer bases tended toward different types of businesses, but we have complemented our businesses with our own strengths and contacts.

Thank you for all your loyalty and dedication for al these years.

Yours Truly,

Paul J Tabone
