FIRST EDITION GATT BIBLIOGRAPHY 1947 - 1953 The text of the GATT Selected GATT publications A chronological list of references to the GATT GATT Secretariat Palais des Nations Gene va Switzerland March 1954 MGT/7/54 GATT BIBLIOGRAPHY This bibliography is a list of books, pamphlets, articles in periodicals, newspaper reports and editorials, and miscellaneous items including texts of lectures, which refer to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade. It covers a period of approximately seven years. For six of these years - from the beginning of 1948 - the GATT has been in operation. The purpose of the list is a practical one: to provide sources of reference for historians, researchers and students. The list, it must be emphasized, is limited to the formation and operation of the GATT; for œasons •»f length, the history of the Havana Charter and its preparation and references to the proposed International Trade Organization, which has not been brought into being, have been somewhat rigidly excluded, while emphasis has been put en references that show the operational aspects of the GATT. The bibliography is divided into the following sections: 1. the text of the GATT and governmental publications; 2. selected GATT publications; (the full list of GATT publications is .obtainable from the secretariat on request) 3. a chronological listing of references to the GATT. This has been subdivided into the following periods, the references being listed alphabetically in each period: 1947 including the Geneva tariff negotiations (April- August) and

www.sandiegoregion.aaca.com Jack & Lynne Heacock’s 1957 Oldsmobile ‘98 Holiday Coupe March, 2021 Volume 59 Issue 3 Tale of an Oldsmobile by Jack Heacock Jack presented more of this story and more photos on our February Zoom Meeting. In order for the rest of the region to hear this “tale” this version is presented here. While perusing Craigs List early last year (2020), I came across a listing of an original unrestored 1957 Oldsmobile in a 47-year hibernation in the family’s garage in Billings, Montana. To say the least, I was intrigued. I found the owner (living locally in Escondido, CA) to be very pleasant and straightforward in his description. The car had been purchased by his late father as a 1-year-old car that had been traded in by one of the dealership’s salesman. Interestingly, the new owner had traded in his 1953 DeSoto for $695. This owner (whose family I purchased the car from) had maintained excellent records of everything ever done on the car including the original dealer purchase agreement (just under $3,000). In 1973 the car had an engine failure and was parked in the family garage with 66,229 original miles showing (mileage confirmed by aforementioned receipts). The owner is the executor of his parent’s estate and we came to an agreed price and I attempted to secure a transport for delivery of the car from Montana. My attempts were unsuccessful and because there was a short window to get the car from storage, I transported the car myself with help The owner and his son who I from my son in law and grandson.

Trade Development Summary 17 November 1953 FRANCE (a) Production (See Tables A and B, pages 2 and 3) Since 1938, a substantial shift has occurred in French industrial production: the emphasis given to consumer goods has declined considerably in favour of other commodities. By 1952, the production of industrial consumer goods stood at the pre-war level, whereas the output of metals and engineering products was nearly two-thirds, and that of chemicals and fuels and energy, nearly three-fifths, above pre-war. Building materials and building, at about 40 per cent above 1938, occupied an intermediate position. In the first quarter of 1953, production was generally lower than in the first quarter of 1952. The decline was particularly heavy in chemicals, consumer goods and building. There was not much change in metals and engineering and fuels. In the second quarter of 1953, production improved in comparison with the first quarter, whereas in the corresponding period of the preceding year it had declined. By mid-1953 consumer goods exceeded, while fuels and energy, chemicals and building equalled, the level of a year ago. Metals and engineering products, on the other hand, were nearly 7 per cent lower. Industrial production as a whole, while still lower than in the corresponding quarter of 1952, was somewhat above the average level of that year. Agricultural production has generally been increasing since the end of the war. According to preliminary figures the 1953 yields per acre planted to cereals are expected to set post-war records for wheat and barley. Except for rye, the 1953 yields are higher than pre-war.

It can be good or bad, a life changing experience, or just a memorable event or occasion. It can fix in your memory a series of sights, smells, and associations that linger there forever. Driving is just the function of taking a car from one place to another. Most of the time all of us merely drive, but there are times when we motor memorably. These are some of those stories. I cannot remember a time when cars were not important to me. After AMama@ and ADaddy,@ I am told that some of the first words I learned to say were ABuick@ and ADeSoto,@ cars then driven by two of the members of my family who drove me around a lot.
