Type of Program: Batavia Public School District 101’s Early Childhood Center offers a preschool program for children with and without special needs. Also known as a blended or inclusive program, this tuition free offering educates children with special needs alongside their typically developing peers

Mission statement/Philosophy: The Friendship Station Preschool is guided by the philosophy of learning through play. In keeping with the guidelines of Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Standards regarding early learning and literacy, our preschool program will provide appropriate activities to enhance literacy enrichment of the young child. Our lead teachers all have a Bachelor of Arts degrees in early childhood education or a related field, and receive ongoing training. Our 5-day a week 4-5 year- old program, is designed to meet the needs of children who have had previous preschool experience, and may not be ready to attend Kindergarten. Please note: our classrooms are peanut safe zones. Class Information: The 3-year old (Tu/Th) curriculum consists of: colors, shapes, fundamental concepts, an introduction to letters and numbers, fine motor skills (cutting, name writing, drawing, etc.), and basic classroom skills. The 4-year old (M/W/F) curriculum consists of the following kindergarten readiness skills: letter and number knowledge, concepts, literacy, sequencing, rhyming, problem solving, music experiences, and fine and gross motor activities. The 4/5-year old (M-F) curriculum consists of the same elements as the 3 day program with the opportunity to further develop children’s skills in problem solving, self-expression and sustaining longer periods of engagement. Individuals that do not have this identification will not be allowed into our school. The identification presented will be held in the main office and will be returned when the visitor leaves the building. The building secretary will enter the identification into the Raptor V-Soft Visitor Management System, which will cross-reference the visitors’ information with a database of sex offenders throughout the United States maintained by Raptor Technologies and any court orders provided to the District to protect students. Individuals cleared by the V-Soft System will be issued a visitor badge and lanyard that must be visibly worn while in the school and returned to the school office upon leaving. If a potential threat is identified the V-Soft System will instantly alert designated officials, such as administrators and law enforcement. In these cases, visitors will be denied access to the building. Please be assured that this system is NOT meant to restrict access to our schools for our parents and community. Licensed capacity: We pride ourselves on our learning environment. We offer class sizes at or below the Illinois State recommended student to teacher ratio of 10 to 1. We are proud to be accredited by National Lutheran School Accreditation and registered as a Non-Public School with the Illinois State Board of Education (the highest level attainable by a in the State of Illinois).

Security: School and church personnel annually meet with representatives of first responders to evaluate Immanuel’s current Critical Incident Plan and determine any need for changes, upgrades, or corrections. All building doors are locked and monitored. Other than at regular drop-off and pick up times, guests must be buzzed into the building. Volunteers who work with students more than fifteen hours per ministry year are required to complete a volunteer application, volunteer covenant, confidentiality agreement, and mandated reporter statement. Those who are over the age of eighteen are also required to successfully complete the background check process. Any visitors who will be working with children or will be unescorted, including parents, are required to submit to a background scan of their driver’s license on their first visit.

Diet/Allergy: Preschoolers may only distribute treats at end of the class period to be taken home for parents to determine appropriateness for their child.
