BISCACCIANTI (*) and DANIELE SECHI (**) Trichoferus arenbergeri Holzschuh, 1995 was described from Sar- dinia based upon three females collected in the following localities: “2 km westl, Siniscola [NU], Monte Albo” (locus typicus), “Siniscola (Nuoro)” and “Ozieri” [SS] (Holzschuh 1995: 15). The male of this taxon is still unknown, as well as its biology, ecology and preimaginal stages. During several surveys carried out from 2002 to 2007 at differ- ent sites in southern Sardinia, several specimens (larvae, pupae and adults of both sexes) of this poorly known longhorn beetle were col- lected and observed. The aim of this paper is to describe the male morphology, the biology and the habitat of the species, with a discus- sion about its relationship to other congeneric species. Larval and pu- pal morphology will be treated in a further contribution (Biscaccianti & Di Giulio unpublished data). Specimens examined are listed from North to South and from East to West; they are preserved in the collections listed below. Measures of specimens are taken in the following way. Total length: from the forehead to the apex of elytra; elytral length: from humerus to elytral apex; elytral width: maximum width at humeri; tarsal joint length: from the base of joint (excluding articulation) to the apical margin, or to the midpoint of a line tangential to the apex of the lobes (for bilobed joints); tarsal joint width: maximum width. The natural reserve “Saline di Trapani e Paceco” is an interesting natural area in Sicily, formed by the remaining strips of land among salt pans near the coastline. From January 2008 to January 2010, pitfall trapping was conducted in five sampling sites inside the study area. The community of terrestrial isopods was assessed using the main diversity indices. Twenty-four species were collected, only one of them endemic to west- ern Sicily: Porcellio siculoccidentalis Viglianisi, Lombardo & Caruso, 1992. Two species are new to Sicily: Armadilloniscus candidus Budde-Lund, 1885 and Armadilloniscus ellipticus (Harger, 1878).

Accepted 9 August 2000. Abstract South America is diverse in climatic and thus vegetational zonation, and even the uniformly looking tropical rain forests are a mosaic of different habitats depending on the soils, the regional climate and also the geological history. An important part of the nutrient webs of the rain forests is formed by the terrestrial Isopoda, or Oniscidea, the only truly terrestrial taxon within the Crustacea. They are important, because they participate in soil formation by breaking up leaf litter when foraging on the fungi and bacteria growing on them. After a century of research on this interesting taxon, a revision of the terrestrial isopod taxa from South America and some of the Antillean Islands, which are traditionally placed in the family Philosciidae, was performed in the last years to establish monophyletic genera. Within this study, the phylogenetic relationships of these genera are elucidated in the light of phylogenetic systematics. Several new taxa are recognized, which are partially neotropical, partially also found on other continents, particularly the old Gondwanian fragments. The monophyla are checked for their distributional patterns which are compared with those patterns from other taxa from South America and some correspondence was found. The distributional patterns are analysed with respect to the evolution of the Oniscidea and also with respect to the geological history of their habitats.

Bába Abstract: The authors evaluated the samples collected by Marninus De Smit in 1999 at the collection site of Katavothres, on the isle of Kefalinia, Greece. Key-words: Katavothers, Greece, Marin mollusc fauna Material and methods Sample collections were carried out in a southern bay of the isle of Kefalinia, on the coast of Katavothres (09.06.1999.) For the determination of the order of families we used Poppe, G. T.–Gotto, Y. (1991–1993) Vol. I-II. For the identification of species we gave preference to the following publications: Nordsieik, F. (1968, 1969, 1972) Poppe, G. T.–Gotto, Y. (1991, 1993), D’ Angeló–Gargiullo, S. (1978) and also Ghisotti, F.–Melone, G. (1971, 1972, 1975) Results The collections yielded species from Scaphopoda, Lamellibranchiata and Gastropoda class- es. Altogether 7697 individuals belonging to 188 species were collected. (Scaphopoda: 1 family 1 species, Lamellibranchiata: 30 families 90 species 3811 specimen, Gastropoda: 42 families 188 species 7697 specimen). From the Bivalvia the Musculus laevigatus is a cir- cumpolar, the Hiatellidae: Hiatella arctica is a boreal circumpolar species. From the Gastropoda the Trochidae: Clanculus striatus, Phasianellidae: Tricolia miniata are known as belonging to the Southern Mediterranean. Most probably they spread due shipping. From most of the species encountered 1-40 individuals were found. More than 100 indi- viduals were collected from the species below: Jujubinus striatus, Gibbula philberti, Truncatella subcylindrica, Alvania consociella, Bittium latreilli, Bittium reticulatum, Cerithium alucaster, Gibberula miliaria, Granulina clandestina. Summary From the alluvial deposits on an island near Greece 11 508 individuals from 279 species of 72 families from 3 orders were encountered.

Ground beetle communities (Coleoptera, Carabidae) SHNB of Holm oak-forests (Quercus ilex) and their degradation stages on Mallorca (Iles Baleares, Spain). Boll. Soc. Hist. Nat. Balears, 51: 63-72. ISSN 0212-260X. Palma de Mallorca. Ground beetles (Coleoptera: Carabidae) were examined in the Serra de Tramuntana (Mallorca). These beetles serve as ecological indicators to describe effects of human impact in terrestrial habitats and are used in nature conservation. There were analysed holm oak (Quercus ilex) forest sites as well as garrigue sites in former oak forest SOCIETAT D’HISTÒRIA areas. A total of 17 Carabid species with 1810 individuals was recorded. One species, NATURAL DE LES BALEARS Pseudomasoreus canigoulensis, was found first time on the Balearic islands. The species numbers per site varied between 2-6 in forests and 5-10 in garrigues. Despite the lower species number, the forest sites had more individuals due to a large population density of Calosoma sycophanta, a specialized oak forest species. The ground beetle community changes clearly between forest and garrigue in the Serra de Tramuntana despite the fact that both habitat types are located in direct neighbourhood and that both habitat types are shared by many abundant species in other Mediterranean areas (e.g. Greek mountains). We must conclude that the decrease of forest area and forest fragmentation of Mallorca are connected with decrease and possible disappearing of typical (in part endemic) forest Carabidae which do not find secondary habitats in shrubland.

For this purpose, the material collected from the area between the years 2005 and 2009, within the framework of different projects, was investigated. The investigation of the material taken from various biotopes ranging at depths between 0 and 100 m resulted in identification of 286 mollusc species and 27542 specimens belonging to them. Among the encountered species, Vitreolina cf. perminima (Jeffreys, 1883) is new record for the Turkish molluscan fauna and 18 species are being new records for the Turkish Levantine coast. A checklist of Iskenderun mollusc fauna is given based on the present study and the studies carried out beforehand, and a total of 424 moluscan species are known to be distributed in Iskenderun Bay.     LES PEUPLEMENTS DES COLÉOPTÈRES DU MARAIS SALÉ DE L’embouCHURE DE LA TAFNA (ALGÉRIE) Samira BOUKLI HACENE 1, Karima HASSAINE 1 & Philippe PONEL 2 SUMMARY. — Coleopteran communities of the salt marsh at the mouth of the Tafna River (Algeria). — A study of Coleopteran communities was conducted between October 2009 and September 2010 in the salt marsh at the mouth of the Tafna River. Bimonthly trappings were carried out in five groups of vegetation and yielded 3833 specimens belonging to 140 species. This richness varies from one group to another (19 to 87 species). The high values are directly related to a shorter period of submersion, a lower salinity but also a greater floristic richness. Diversity indicators show that communities are diversified, regular and well structured with the exception of the samples from the lowest points where the highest salt concentrations are recorded. The highest richness and abundance are recorded mainly between early spring and early summer. Community composition is very different from one group to another ; the similarity index does not exceed 40 %. The spatial micro-distribution of grouping floristic species has been demonstrated through an ascend- ing hierarchical analysis. RÉSUMÉ. — Une étude des peuplements des Coléoptères a été réalisée entre octobre 2009 et septembre 2010 dans le marais salé de l’embouchure de la Tafna. Des piégeages bimensuels effectués dans cinq grou- pements de végétation ont fourni 3833 spécimens répartis en 140 espèces. Cette richesse spécifique varie d’un groupement à un autre (de 19 à 87 espèces). Les richesses élevées sont en relation directe avec une période de submersion moins longue, un taux de salinité moins élevé mais également une richesse floristi- que plus importante.

Piazzi Istituto di Biologia ed Ecologia Marina, Piombino, Italy (Received 22 April 2013; accepted 22 January 2015; first published online 10 April 2015) The study evaluated patterns of spatial variability of mobile macro-invertebrate assemblages associated with Posidonia oceanica leaves within a meadow at three different depths and three different coastal wave-exposures. A total of 171 taxa was found, among them two Nemertea, 65 Mollusca, 91 Arthropoda, eight Annelida and five Echinodermata. The total number of taxa per sample was higher in intermediate and deep stands than in shallow ones, while no significant differences among coastal wave-exposures were observed. Multivariate analyses detected significant differences in the structure of assemblages in relation to depth and coastal wave-exposure. Mollusca were more abundant in shallow stands, while Crustacea and Echinodermata increased in intermediate and deep stands. Moreover, patterns of spatial variability changed with depth: shallow and inter- mediate assemblages showed high small-scale (tens of metres apart) variability, while deep assemblages showed high variability at intermediate scale (hundreds of metres apart).
