Our guest speaker this month was Pastor Joe Eriques who spoke to General Meeting us about Heart for the City. A nonprofit organization that helps inner Ironworks Restaurant city kids. VETERANS FUNDRAISER GALA

Soldier’s Best Friend (SBF) is a non-profit organization connecting soldiers suffering from PTSD and/or brain injuries with rescue dogs. The SBF organization is highly respected and dedicated to pairing and training service dogs with veterans at no cost to the veteran. Our goal is to raise $4,000 allowing one soldier the gift of a trained dog. Let's show one returning soldier with war-related injuries that we care!

Marciano considered a comeback in 1959 when won the Heavyweight Championship from on June 26, 1959. After only a month of training in nearly four years, Marciano decided against it and never seriously considered a comeback again.

On August 31, 1969 (the day before his 46th birthday), Marciano was a passenger in a small private plane, heading to Des Moines, . It was nighttime and bad weather had set in. The pilot, Glenn Belz, had 231 total hours of flying time, 35 of them at night, and had no instrument rating. Belz tried to land the plane at a small airfield outside Newton, Iowa but the aircraft hit a tree two miles short of the runway. Flying with Marciano in the back seat was Frankie Farrell, 28, the oldest son of Lew Farrell, a former boxer who had known Marciano since his childhood.
