K. Abdul Azis today met the District Magistrate of Aligarh to discuss the developments pertaining to the probe since AMU S.T. High School Class X student, Saddam Husain?s kidnapping till date. Prof. Azis said that district administration should clear the position in this regard as soon as possible and expedite its search operation to find out the missing student. The Vice Chancellor has also written a letter to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh providing information in detail and highlighting the concerns of AMU fraternity in this matter. He also demanded to constitute a special task force to investigate the case on fast track basis. Prof. Azis also visited the Jawan canal today morning and enquired about the details of search operation. He met the father of Saddam Husain today in his office and expressed deep sorrow and grief on the unfortunate incident and assured him that all efforts are on to find out about Saddam Husain. He said that whole University community is with him in the moment of anguish and distress. The Vice Chancellor observed that the University students are busy in their examinations despite the fact that they are concerned for their fellow friend. Urging the students to have patience, Prof. Azis said that AMU administration is making all efforts to clear the position regarding Saddam Husain. High School Principal, Mr. Faisal Nafees along with others accompanied the father of Saddam Husain during his meeting with the Vice Chancellor. ALIGARH :December 27 The Department of Pediatrics, J. N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University organized a lecture by Dr. Anil Kumar Gupta, MD, Additional Project Director, Delhi AIDS Control Society on Post Exposure Prophylaxis For Management of Occupational Exposure. Delivering the lecture, Dr. Anil Kumar Gupta said that the people working in this field are not only prone to HIV, but they are also likely to develop Hepatitis B & Hepatitis C at work place due to injuries like needle stick injury (NSI) or cut with a sharp instrument, contact with the mucous membrane of eye or mouth, contact with non-intact skin (abraded skin or with dermatitis) and contact with intact skin when the duration of contact is prolonged with blood or other potential infected body fluid. He emphasized that the doctors and nurses along with fourth grade staffs should observe extreme care while performing activities involving needles and sharps in a hurry-handling and passing needles or sharp after use. He said that failing to dispose off used needles properly in puncture-resistant sharp containers due to poor healthcare waste-management practices and ignoring Universal Work Precautions may prove to be deadly. He however said that one should not panic and three drug regimen (Zidovudine, Lamivudine & Efavirenz) should be used by the people exposed to sick HIV-positive persons. The lecture was followed by an interactive session with the faculty members and students. Earlier, Prof. S. Manazir Ali, Chairman, Department of Pediatrics welcomed the members of Surgery, Medicine, Dermatology, Microbiology, TB & Chest, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, ART (Antiretroviral Treatment Centre) and the residents of Department of Pediatrics and introduced Dr. Anil Kumar Gupta. Prof. Ali pointed out that around 400 children have been enrolled with ART Centre till date and at least around 1-2 babies are born to HIV positive mothers in Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department. Prof. Manazir Ali thanked Prof. Abida Malik, Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Prof. M. Ashraf Malik, Principal & CMS, J. N. Medical College for sparing valuable time. Prof. Tabassum Shahab has proposed the vote of thanks. Senior faculty members like Prof. Amanullah Khan from Surgery, Prof R. N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University organized a free health check up camp in association with drug society at the Guardian School of Jeevangarh locality. At the camp, free health check up was done and medicines were distributed free of cost to poor patients. Dr. Shahzad, President of RDA, thanked Prof. Ashraf Mallik, Principal and CMS and Dr. Uzma Firdaus for providing all logistic support and medicines. Dr. Murad, Vice President said that about 200 patients were examined at the camp. Dr. Tarique Ekram, Secretary said that the camp has been started by RDA to increase interaction with local people and help them solve their health related problems. He said that the next camp will be organized in Maulana Azad Nagar on January 1. Dr. Musheer, Dr. Kashif, Dr. Zia, Dr. Akhlaq, Dr. Asif, Zaid, Dr. Ahmad and Dr. Shahzad were also present on the occasion and helped in making the camp successful. Related Picture 1. Muzammil, Dr. Abid Ali Khan and Mr. Syed Imran Shafiq of Ergonomics Research Division, Department of Mechanical Engineering participated in the International Conference on Ergonomics and Human Factors, HWWE 2011 (Innovation and Usability in Product Development) at IIT Madras, Chennai. They also chaired technical sessions and presented their papers at the conference. The paper presented by Dr. Abid Ali Khan was selected for the best paper award while the paper presented on active noise control by Prof. M. Muzammil was greatly appreciated by the delegates. He was invited for a collaborative research with Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences (Defence Research and Development Organisation). ALIGARH :December 26 Delivering the second K. P. Singh Memorial Lecture on ?People development and Globalization? as part of the University Extension Lecture at Aligarh Muslim University, noted Social Activist, Medha Patkar said that laws should be made according to the constitution that will promote the cause of the people?s development. This is the real challenge where development will depend on the resources, capacities and needs of the local population rather than dictated by forces o globalization. Patkar said that the issue of capitalization and liberalization, Sensex, GDP has usurped the real development of the common people. This is getting destructive since the law making process favours the special economic zones (SEZ). She said the right to livelihood is also not guaranteed since the liberalization and globalization has halted the people?s movement. She observed that besides Gharibi Rekha, there is a need to demarcate the Ammeri Rekha also. She also emphasized the need to preserve the human rights in the process of development. Ms. Medha Patkar urged the intellectuals of Aligarh Muslim University to take up the research assignments based on these issues. She also highlighted the contributions made by Prof. K. P. Singh in the field of social and economic embedded factors related to people?s movement. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Mehdi Abbas Rizvi, Officiating Vice Chancellor highlighted the liberal writings of K. P. Singh and his contributions to the cause of poor and downtrodden in Aligarh. Prof. S. Imtiaz Hasnain, Coordinator, University Extension Lecture introduced Medha Patkar as a great environmental activist who has a deep commitment to the democratic process of development. Prof. Aleem, Department of Hindi elaborated on the Urdu and Hindi scholarship of Prof. K.P. Singh and his social activism including his crusade against communal and divisive forces. Presiding over the programme, noted Urdu scholar, Padmshri Prof. Qazi Abdus Sattar appreciated the role of Ms. Medha Patkar in creating a public movement against the environmental challenges caused by unmindful developmental policies adopted by various agencies. Prof. Sattar said that Prof. K. P. Singh was a close friend to him and he always stood for communal harmony. A large number of students, faculty members and Dr. Namita Singh, wife of late Prof. K. P.     Ajeeb Aadmi—An Introduction I , Sa‘adat Hasan Manto, Krishan Chandar, Rajinder Singh Bedi, Kaifi Azmi, Jan Nisar Akhtar, Majrooh Sultanpuri, Ali Sardar Jafri, Majaz, Meeraji, and Khawaja Ahmed Abbas. These are some of the names that come to mind when we think of the Progressive Writers’ Movement and modern Urdu literature. But how many people know that every one of these writers was also involved with the Bombay film indus- try and was closely associated with film directors, actors, singers and pro- ducers? Ismat Chughtai’s husband Shahid Latif was a director and he and Ismat Chughtai worked together in his lifetime. After Shahid’s death Ismat Chughtai continued the work alone. In all, she wrote scripts for twelve films, the most notable among them ◊iddµ, Buzdil, Sån® kµ ≤µ∞y≥, and Garm Hav≥. She also acted in Shyam Benegal’s Jun∑n. Khawaja Ahmed Abbas made a name for himself as director and producer for his own films and also by writing scripts for some of Raj Kapoor’s best- known films. Manto, Krishan Chandar and Bedi also wrote scripts for the Bombay films, while all of the above-mentioned poets provided lyrics for some of the most alluring and enduring film songs ever to come out of India. In remembering Kaifi Azmi, Ranjit Hoskote says that the felicities of Urdu poetry and prose entered the consciousness of a vast, national audience through the medium of the popular Hindi cinema; for which masters of Urdu prose, such as Sadat [sic] Hasan Manto, wrote scripts, while many of the Progressives, Azmi included, provided lyrics.
