15 Osaka University Hospital Osaka University Hospital 16 2019 Fiscal Year (April 2019 to March 2020) Events Topics

Topics 1 Opening of Palliative and Supportive Care Center

The Palliative and Supportive Care Center was established on April 1, 2019 as a department to support the various types of suffering of patients being treated for diseases such as cancer and severe heart failure. A range of professionals work together from the perspective of palliative care to provide this support. [Entrance Hall] [Open Terrace] In the past, palliative care was considered to be end-of-life care for patients for whom there was no cure for their disease. But nowadays, it is provided at the same time as the treatment of the disease from the time the disease is diagnosed. Medical treatment is provided while the suffering of the patient and their family is alleviated. We set up a palliative care team at our hospital in 2004, and we have been working on the relief of symptoms such as pain and emotional hardship mainly for cancer patients. Our goal for the Palliative and Supportive Care Center is to respond to the needs of [Library] [Front Entrance] [Appearance of Ward] a great number of patients and their families, and to actively engage in palliative care for people with diseases other than cancer as well, such as severe heart failure. Palliative care is becoming more and more important with the increased sophistication of medical care, and in fiscal 2019, we provided palliative care to a large number of Osaka University Hospital through Photographs patients. Going forward, we plan to further enhance palliative care at

our hospital. ● The three teams that make up the center. From top: the Cancer Palliative Care Team, the Heart Failure Palliative Care Team (Shinwa Team), and the Children’s Cancer Palliative Care Team Topics 2 Introduction of Doctor Car and DMAT Car

The long-awaited Doctor Car and DMAT Car were introduced to [Specific Intensive Care Unit (High- [Blood Purification Center] [Air Ambulance] [Center for Pediatric Diseases] our hospital in April 2020. This is a result of Osaka Prefecture's FY2019 performance ICU)] emergency patient transport system development project, and together with the Doctor Helicopter already in operation, it is expected that the Doctor Car and DMAT Car will greatly contribute to future emergency medical care and disaster response. A Doctor Car is an emergency vehicle owned by a medical institution that is dispatched by a doctor to an emergency site. Generally, a Doctor Car is dispatched at the request of a fire crew after receiving a 119 call. The advantage is that the doctor can see patients more quickly and start treatment ● Doctor Car at the emergency site at an early stage. It is also very useful for transporting [Hospital Park] [High Definition Imaging CT] [Inpatients Reception] critically ill patients between other medical institutions and our hospital. The DMAT Car is an emergency vehicle used by DMAT (Disaster Medical Assistance Team) at the time of a disaster. Osaka DMAT has been dispatched to many disaster sites in the past, but it has been difficult to dispatch team members because there was no dedicated vehicle. The new DMAT Car is a “one-box” type van, which will be able to support a variety of activities in the event of a disaster in collaboration with the Doctor Car. Three qualified paramedics were hired in April to drive the Doctor Car

and DMAT Car. In addition to driving the emergency cars, they will be involved ● DMAT Car [Surgical Assistant Robot Da Vinci] [Trauma and Acute Critical Care Center [Oncology Center Building Anticancer [Clinical Trial Counter, Clinical in first-aid treatment at the Advanced Emergency Lifesaving Center.
