It Takes A Village

February 17 – 19 & 22 - 25, 2021 SASFAA Annual Conference – Virtual WELCOME FROM THE PRESIDENT

Hello SASFAA! It is my honor to welcome you to the 58th annual SASFAA conference and the FIRST to be held virtually! Our theme, It Takes a Village, applies not only to our association but also to our personal work as Financial Aid Administrators. This has been a challenging year in so many ways, as our country has grappled with issues of social equality and a global pandemic. Through perseverance, dedication, hard work by many, and support from so many of you, we have been able to continue to offer high quality training and fellowship opportunities to our members. We want to celebrate the partnerships and collegiality that have carried us through: you, our members; the professional development opportunities we provide (such as the annual conference and the new aid officers workshop); our legislative advocacy efforts; communications; the development of future leaders; and our fiscal integrity. Theresa Mays, Leigh Ann Hussey, and the Conference Committee have done an outstanding job in developing a program suited to all – new and seasoned financial aid professionals. The agenda is packed full of sessions that will give you information on how to stay in compliance, as well as resources and information to help you enhance your professional growth and development. I am very excited about this year’s conference charity: PAGE Partnership for Appalachian Girls Education. PAGE’s mission: to inspire, education, and empower girls in Appalachia. As a product of one of the poorest regions of Appalachia, this charity is near to my heart. You will be given multiple opportunities to contribute to this worthwhile organization. Special thanks are also in order for the many colleagues who provide us with vendor and sponsorship support, to all of you who agreed to participate in the conference as moderators or presenters, and to anyone else who has helped in any way to make this conference a special event. As the Beatles so famously sang, “I get by with a little help from my friends.” Although I will miss the hugs, I look forward to seeing each and every one of you virtually! Until we meet in person again, Celena Tulloss SASFAA President 2020-2021

Welcome from the Conference Co-Chairs

CONFERENCE CHARITY

Dear SASFAA,

Are you excited about the upcoming SASFAA Virtual Conference? I know I am – I will see you there! This year we are supporting a charity in North Carolina due to our charity state rotation. President Tulloss has chosen the non-profit PAGE, a partnership for Appalachian Girls’ Education. https://pageprograms.com/about/our-story/

This wonderful organization was founded in 2010 in the community of Spring Creek, North Carolina. The concept was to invest in high-quality education that empowers girls in their local communities as well as globally. The end result – investing in future of the Appalachian region of NC! As of today, PAGE serves 75 young women in middle school and high school. We encourage you to donate to help PAGE’s mission: to inspire, educate, and empower girls in Appalachia. You can visit the link below to discover ways you can help us support young women in NC.

https://pageprograms.com/get-involved/

Your financial gifts can help in several ways. You can help support PAGE by donating funds to help them with a summer literacy project, the college pathways program, farm to table lunches, or a photo diary project.

I know this year things will be a bit different due to the virtual conference and the pandemic. Let’s continue SASFAA’s tradition by supporting this worthy cause. SASFAA will continue to let you know about ways you can help support PAGE throughout June 30, 2021.

Now, I have donated to this worthy cause. Won’t you join me in helping to empower young women in North Carolina? Once you make your donation, please share this opportunity on social media. SASFAA and Page thanks you for your support!
