Thorough checks are conducted for the ranked institutions in each subject but where fewer than five institutions for the country in question are present in a given subject ranking, we have included the runners up - these are presented in grey. In many cases, these institutions beyond the published ranking, owe their position to relatively low amounts of data (which is why the ranking itself are truncated) and whether or not the institution operates degree programs in that subject may not have been verified. Nonetheless it has been found useful in the context of a country report to present these additional data. At the tail end of a table institutions can appear in dsiciplines they are not very active in due to very strong profiles in "neighbouring" subjects. Since the All Science Journal Classification (ASJC) system operates at a journal level an institution strong in Chemistry can appear in Chemical Engineering for example. Within ranked ranges the existence of qualifying programs is personally checked by a member of the QSIU team - but this is not always practical for the hundreds of entries falling outside the range. At time of writing the QSIU team have manually verified the operation of programs in over 15,000 subject institution intersections. These problems have posed great challenges to the society. There is no doubt that higher education is one of victims under the change of the general environment. Indeed, Taiwan has faced serious problems caused by continuously declining fertility rates for years, which has threatened the sustainable development of universities. Apparently, the only way to get rid of this dilemma is to make change. Universities must find solutions to difficulties in student recruitment and develop ways to reinforce their competitiveness. Innovative management thus becomes the best tool to deal with these new challenges. In this study, we seek to share our experience reshaping and reviving a private university of technology in Taiwan, using the concept of total quality management (TQM), which has facilitated the birth of new possibilities in higher education.     Author: Huang, Peter Title: Ecocriticism in Taiwan Ecocriticism in Taiwan Peter Huang Tamkang University, Tamsui, Taipei, Taiwan More than a decade ago, Professor Lin Yaofu started to teach courses about ecological literature in the graduate program of the English Department at Tamkang University. Yang Ming-tu, Robin Tsai, Ted Yang and Ted Chen attended his ecological classes. Ecological study was first introduced into the curriculum of the graduate program of Tamkang’s English Department. Throughout the ten years, it has developed into one of the main focuses of the graduate program of the English Department of TKU. In 2000, the First Tamkang International Ecological Conference was held in October on Tamkang campus. More than 200 scholars from Taiwan and abroad attended the two days’ conference. Many prominent ecocritics were invited to present papers such as Leo Marx, Baird Callicott, Scott Slovic, Terry Gifford, Patrick Murphy, Ariel Salleh, and Louise Westling. Local scholars included Lin Yaofu, Yang Ming-tu, Chen Yufeng, Lin Yiren, Ayo Cheng, and Zhong Dingmao. Selected papers of the proceedings were published in Tamkang Review. The successful conference drew international attention to the emergence of ecological study in Taiwan. Vol. 1 Vol. The Second Tamkang International Conference on Ecocriticism was held in December 2003. In 2005 and 2008, the 3rd and 4th International Ecological conferences were No. 1 consecutively held. Prominent eco-scholars who were invited to attend included Scott Slovic, Patrick Murphy, Ursula Heise, Axel Goodbody, Deborah Rose, Catherine Rigby, S.
