PROFILE

Starting his career in Washington, DC, working for the Historic American Building Survey (HABS), a division of the dedicated to documenting Americaʹs historic architecture, Mr. Ventrone returned to his native in 1994 to develop a specialty in historic preservation and adaptive reuse projects as well as transportation architecture, including the restoration of four historic Rhode Island lighthouses. After working for more than a decade for the largest firm in the state, Mr. Ventrone started his own practice in 2009, which operated for ten years as a full‐time business. In June 2019, Ventrone joined the Preservation Society of Newport County (PSNC) as their full‐time preservation architect.

 Developed recommendations, design concepts, and Construction Documents for restoration and maintenance projects for all PSNC properties  Assisted with state and federal grant management including the research and preparation of necessary documentation and reports in compliance with Section 106, of the National Preservation Act  Provided all necessary coordination and collaboration with the State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO) and Preservation Planner for the City of Newport  Provided review and comment on all project drawings, plans, and specifications prepared by outside consultant architects and engineers to ensure constructability and adherence with PSNC objectives  Organized and developed database of architectural resources within the PSNC  Developed short and long‐term priorities for eleven historic properties, several of which are National Historic Landmarks, based on budget and historic significance  Conducted intensive field measurements of museum properties and developed highly accurate AutoCAD drawings for reference and use in future preservation projects  Supervised the Construction Administration of all PSNC projects  Worked closely with all architectural subconsultants, including architects, for large‐scale projects  Developed bid documents, supervised bidding process and prepared AIA contracts for all PSNC projects  Provided Construction Administration for all projects and provided documents as needed for changing conditions including, change orders, change directives, supplementary drawings, and revised specifications to accommodate changing project conditions  Served as lecturer for the PSNC for the restoration of the Southeast Lighthouse Restoration Project  Collaborated closely with other departments and disciplines with the PSNC to assist with and advance the priorities and mission of the PSNC  Due to severe institutional financial difficulties at the PSNC caused by the COVID‐19 pandemic, the position was furloughed in June 2020, reducing staff by 231 positions, to 52
