The picture below is of Lindsay Amherst with a pink rose and one of the race’s traditional trophies! Recently crowned New England Male Runner of the Year (by Bob Fitzgerald and his staff at New England Runner Magazine) Matt Pelletier of West Green- wich blazed across the finish line in 26:21, capturing first place overall. North Kingstown resident Derek Jajoboski (27:18) cruised to a second place finish. Congratulations to the talented speedster Lindsay Amherst, RIRR/TNT, who seized first place overall female in 32:05. A newcomer to the racing circuit, New Bedford resi- dent, Nathen Brito, 22, won his age group in 30:31. “I just started running,” he said. “I never ran in high school. Now I’m being sponsored to train for triath- lons.” His enthusiasm for the sport and competition was displayed in his broad grin as he showcased his Trevor Powers 36:16 7:16 9th 30-39 Mark DiFranco 36:37 7:20 9th 50-59 whimsical one-of-a-kind trophy. Built in 1899 from standardized plans that were modified for its individual site and requirements, the tower is referred to as a caisson light, after the type of foundation on which it rests, and is of the same basic design as the Conimicut, Hog Island and Sakonnet Lights. Now deactivated and abandoned, the light marked the east edge of Plum Beach Shoal.
