Box 1302 Oakland, California Los Altos, California 94601 940 .2 Volume 31, Number I JAINARY,1977 Our355thIssue FRANK CATARINA and EDWARD S. TETRAULT It has been a Long cold winter, and it has been a season of many sad tidings for us in the A . V.A . This month I Learned of the death of Frank Catarina, AVA #724, of Staten Island, N .Y. Many of us who had never met him nevertheless considered him a close friend, for we knew him through our correspondence . Others knew him in person, and we all appreciated his presence and his friendship . We shall miss Frank . He died September 27, 1976 . Ed Tetrault of Huntsville, Alabama, AVA #548, tns Like a close friend to me, aZ- though, again, I had never met him in person . But Ed and I corresponded often over the years, and his letters betrayed an outgoing and very friendly person . He died December 6, 1976, and is survived by his wife and 12-year-oZd son Michael . February 3 . Last month I was snowbound, and hence the December issue was delay- ed nearly a week longer than I had anticipated . I bought enough extra paper, when I was finally able to get out to the paper company, to cover an extra issue, so that will not happen again . This month we cone to you with a 20-page issue, with long lists of nearly every- thing, and several long auctions . We are short on good articles, though . When this happens I generally try to write one, but this is a heavy month for me, and shall pass this time . But some of you members out there must have stories to tell which we'd all love to read . Articles about how you acquired a rare token, or what inter- ested you in the hobby in the first place, or about token-using firms . This is the last issue of THE FARE BOX you will receive if you have not paid your 1977 A .V .A . dues by March 1 . We are loath : to say goodbye . We hope you will be with us, so please send your $7 .50 to our Treasurer, R .K. Frisbee - 211 King Street - Denver, Colorado 80219 . We think it's going to be a great year in our hobby . And one thing that will make it a great year is our 1977 Catalogue Supplement, which we hope to have early in March . At this writing I have advance orders for 523 copies . Still tine to order one at only $4 postpaid (cloth-bound, loose-leaf, or spiral-bound) . Just send your check to the Editor, After March 1 it'll be $5 .50 . A number of long auctions in this issue . So many, in fact, that there might be some real bargains . All auctions in this issue (except Feisel's) close on Feb . 28 . `Tn~n=s Fr wo. -rr y~~ylynl 4 free download from: www.vecturist.com A pacje from Bob Se v IET~ it (.JOTICE THg TWO bLST I NCT €141JAT - URES OF "AQ,aY (14ARY') QE III . Coffee The previous four supplements appeared, respectively, in the November 1975, February, 1976, July 1976, and October 1976, issues of The Fare Box . To have your personal token Listed please send one to the Editor. I am not asking for something for nothing in this request . I've issued five diff- erent personate myself, and I never asked anauthing more than a stamp for any of them so long as they were available . They were free for the ask- ing . I still have 14-A and 14-E left for anyone who need either. If you have sent me your personal and need either just write and ask. If you have never sent me a personal I'd appreciate an SAE.
