The Bachelor of Laws (Honours)/Diploma of Legal Practice is only available to University of Newcastle students who have completed the first degree of a combined Law degree. For the last two
years of your Law program you can apply to study the Bachelor of Laws (Honours)/Diploma of Legal Practice, enabling you to be admitted as a lawyer in Australia. Students will have completed 80 units of core LAWS courses within their first degree - Legal System and Method, Torts, Criminal Law and Procedure, and Contracts.
Years 1 - 3: Completion of first degree program of combined Bachelor of Laws (240units).
Years 4 - 5: Bachelor of Laws (Honours)/Diploma of Legal Practice (200units).

BACHELOR OF LAWS (HONS)/DIPLOMA OF LEGAL PRACTICE
To be eligible to graduate make sure you have completed 440 units (10 units = 1 course unless otherwise specified) which meet the following criteria:
. • Core courses - 130 units. • Directed courses - 70 units • The duration of this program 2 years full time (50 units per semester).
• Some 5000 Level LAWS Directed courses have been replaced with 6000 Level LAWS Directed courses in 2021, all previous 5000 and 6000 Level LAWS Directed courses completed prior to 2021 will count towards this program.
