Private Equity Associate - Latin America

Developing World Markets (DWM) specializes in management for microfinance and other socially positive businesses in developing countries. We have invested or equity in over 140 microfinance institutions (MFIs) across more than 40 countries worldwide. The team consists of seven professionals, manages over USD $100 million in private equity capital, and is currently on the investment period of its second private equity fund. DWM is seeking an Associate for its Latin America private equity team who will join a team of professionals with a strong social mission and commitment to sustainable economic development. The Associate will work closely with the Latin America Director to execute the firm’s equity strategy for the region by originating and developing new client relationships and equity investments and by managing and overseeing the existing Latin American equity portfolio. The role requires extensive travel for due diligence and board and shareholders’ meetings. The position is now based in Stamford, CT, with access to the New York, NY office. DWM is also open to the possibility of relocating it to Latin America at some point. Responsibilities

 Perform comprehensive and in-depth company, country and industry research  Assist in executing private equity transactions  Develop and maintain detailed financial models for evaluating potential investments  Prepare and present detailed memorandums (e.g. investment proposals) for investment and exit opportunities  Assist in the drafting of transaction documents, marketing materials and memorandums  Assist in deal negotiation and structuring and review of legal documentation  Participate in due diligence trips abroad to assess potential portfolio companies  Evaluate exit opportunities for current portfolio  Conduct asset- and portfolio-level analyses  Attend regional microfinance and social impact conferences  Support ongoing monitoring of portfolio companies, including monthly operational and financial performance and preparation for quarterly Board meetings and investor reporting  Support the active management of portfolio companies, including development and implementation of strategic initiatives, such as debt and equity raising, senior management selection and training, product development, strategic partnerships and others  Respond to due diligence requests made by fund investors  Interact with the risk, fund management, debt and capital markets teams on equity transactions  Manage Special Projects as necessary

Qualifications  Three to five years of experience in , asset management, private equity, management consulting, and/or deal-oriented ; emerging markets experience is a plus  A college or graduate degree; undergraduate financial or business related concentration and/or MBA is a plus  Interest and commitment to social/economic development  Knowledge of or experience in the microfinance or financial institutions sector  Demonstrated significant quantitative skills (including and skills), strategic and creative thinking abilities  Strong understanding of financial statements and advanced MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills  Ability to manage multiple high priority projects and work effectively both as an individual and as part of a team  Strong work ethic and attention to detail  Must show mature personal and deal judgment and ability to represent firm in private and public events  Excellent verbal and written communication skills  Written and spoken fluency in Spanish is required  Proof of ability to work in the U.S.
