CONCORD CLUB CLASS NOTES ETUDE DE FER #1 – VERTICAL DISENGAGE SEQUENCE

Paired Drills – Repeat each drill 3-4 times successfully, then switch roles, then progress to the next drill.

1) Disengage-Direct Thrust - with Advance- a. Cue: Fencer B attempts engagement in 4; b. Fencer A makes indirect thrust to B’s thigh (low line), with advance; c. Fencer B retreats without or counterattack d. Fencer A lunges to hit the thigh 2) Indirect -Attacks (Vertical) a. One-Two - with Advance-Lunge i. Cue: Fencer B attempts engagement in 4; ii. Fencer A makes indirect thrust to B’s thigh (low line), with advance; iii. Fencer B retreats and makes a parry 7 iv. Fencer A deceives the parry with a lunge to hit the wrist or arm (high line) b. Doublé - with Advance-Lunge i. Cue: Fencer B attempts engagement in 4; ii. Fencer A makes indirect thrust to B’s thigh (low line), with advance; iii. Fencer B retreats and makes a parry 8 iv. Fencer A deceives the parry with a lunge to hit the wrist or arm (high line) 3) Indirect Feint-Attacks (Mixed Vertical/Lateral) a. One-Two “with a twist” - with Advance-Lunge i. Cue: Fencer B attempts engagement in 4; ii. Fencer A makes indirect thrust to B’s thigh (low line), with advance; iii. Fencer B retreats and makes a parry 7 iv. Fencer A deceives the parry with a lunge to hit the thigh (low line) b. Doublé “with a twist” - with Advance-Lunge i. Cue: Fencer B attempts engagement in 4; ii. Fencer A makes indirect thrust to B’s thigh (low line), with advance; iii. Fencer B retreats and makes a parry 8 iv. Fencer A deceives the parry with a lunge to hit the thigh (low line) 4) Indirect Feint-Beat - with Advance-Lunge a. Cue: Fencer B attempts engagement in 4; b. Fencer A makes indirect thrust to B’s thigh (low line), with advance; c. Fencer B retreats and extends, making a counterattack inside d. Fencer A executes a beat in 4 (with rear foot) and lunges to hit the arm 5) Indirect Feint-Prise de Fer - with Advance- Flèche a. Cue: Fencer B attempts engagement in 4; b. Fencer A makes indirect thrust to B’s thigh (low line), with advance; c. Fencer B retreats and extends, making a counterattack inside d. Fencer A takes the blade in a 4-8 bind (with rear foot) and flèches to belly or chest e. (Fencer A runs past; Fencer B turns around; both come on guard and resume.)
