Z literatury Kakteen und andere Sukkulenten č. 6 / 2006 Bohat ě kvetoucí rebucie s dlouhými, k řídov ě bílými trny, je vždy ozdobou sbírky, i když jí chybí jméno. Jedna z takových „anonymních“ rebucií, s věncem pom ěrn ě velkých, syt ě žlutých kv ětů natolik upoutala redaktora, že její snímek uve řejnil na titulní stran ě. Dev ět stran tohoto čísla je v ěnováno historii a p ěstování rodu Sempervivum . Net řesky jsou oblíbeny zejména mezi skalni čká ři, ale po shlédnutí 19 snímk ů, které ilustrují článek, nepochybn ě i řada kaktusá řů zatouží za řadit net řesky mezi kaktusy ve své sbírce. Jejich český název vychází z představy, že do míst a budov osázených net řesky blesk neuhodí. Latinský název znamená „stále žijící“ a sv ědčí o mimo řádné životaschopnosti a odolnosti t ěchto sukulent ů. P řes usilovné a dlouhé studium stále není jasné z kolika druh ů se tento rod skládá. Popsáno bylo asi 200 druh ů, botanicky uznaných je jen kolem 60, nabízí se však zhruba 3000 odr ůd. Na vin ě je p ředevším snadné k řížení net řesk ů jak v přírod ě, tak zám ěrné u šlechtitel ů. Net řesky pat řily mezi vyhledávané lé čivé rostliny. Š ťáva z rozma čkaných list ů sloužila k hojení ran, bolák ů, k odstra ňování bradavic, k potla čování sv ědění p ři svrabu, nebo po poštípání hmyzem. -

Se muestra la distribución de las familias Agavaceae y Nolinaceae en América y México. Para México se determinó la presencia de 402 taxa, 342 de ellos pertenecen a los géneros Agave, Beschorneria, Furcraea, Hesperaloii, Manfreda, Polianthes, Prochnyanthes y Yucca de la familia Agavaceae, en tanto que 60 corresponden a los géneros Beaucarnea, Calibanus, Dasylirion y Nolina de la familia Nolinaceae. Se presenta también la lista actualizada de las especies de ambas familias, ordenadas alfabéticamente. Para cada taxon se señala su distribución por estado y por provincia florística. Los estados más ricos son: Oaxaca con 63 taxa, Durango con 52, Puebla con 50, San Luis Potosí y Sonora con 47 y Chihuahua con 45. En cuanto a las provincias florísticas con un número mayor de taxa están: las Serranías Meridionales, Sierra Madre Occidental y Altiplanicie. Para México, hasta el momento, se han realizado cinco floras regionales y cuatro listados florísticos, en los que se aborda el estudio de las Agavaceae y Nolinaceae a diferentes niveles. Los géneros Agave, Beaucarnea, Beschorneria, Ma11freda y Prochnyanthes han sido objeto de tratamientos taxonómicos; otros como Dasylirion, Furcraea y Polianthes se encuentran en diferentes etapas de desarrollo, en tanto que Calibanus, Hesperaloii, Nolina, Yucca y varios grupos de Agave, requieren una revisión actualizada. -

Pelecyphora Aselliformis, Ehrenberg, 1843); a Brief Description of Its Potential Distribution and Intrinsic Aspects About Its Conservation
Our Special Guests Pedro Nájera Quezada Pedro Nájera Quezada, july -1985- MX, is a student in the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí (UASLP) as an agroecology engineer. He is focusing on studies about natural resources management and other sustainable techniques for managing rangelands. For the last 6 years he has been working on its own cacti nursery producing plants by organic and natural means, 5 years locating, evaluating and monitoring cacti populations and 4 years monitoring bird migrations, presences and densities in the SLP state. He Is a participative certifier for organic agricultural practices and products in the Mexican Association for organic markets, an association that looks for fair-trade, healthy ecosystems and sustainable production, also he is an active member at the civil association Sierra de San Miguelito A.C. that focuses its efforts for the declaration of an Area for Natural Protection (ANP) in this mountain range. He has also been publishing nature pictures in social networks to prompt the local knowledge of biodiversity and its richness. Notes on Peotillo (Pelecyphora aselliformis, Ehrenberg, 1843); A brief description of its potential distribution and intrinsic aspects about its conservation The taxon Pelecyphora aselliformis is distributed in the NW and NE regions of the Tangamanga valley, Arista valley and other remote points on the N and S sides of Sierra la Trinidad. This species’ distribution is characterized by the agglomerated dispersion syndrome, e.g. clusters of many sub-populations with high number of individuals (especially in the more pristine areas); in order to formulate an appropriate description of the distribution I have segregated all the populations into geographically isolated groups. -

A generic-level phylogeny for the tribe was recently produced, providing new insights into relationships between the taxa. Octopoma and Arenifera are woody shrubs with multilocular capsules and are distributed across the Succulent Karoo. Octopoma was shown to be polyphyletic in the tribal phylogeny, but comprehensive sampling is required to confirm its polyphyly. Arenifera has not previously been sampled and therefore its phylogenetic placement in the tribe is uncertain. In this study, phylogenetic sampling for nine plastid regions (atpB-rbcL, matK, psbJ-petA, rpl16, rps16, trnD-trnT, trnL-F, trnQUUG-rps16, trnS-trnG) was expanded to include all species of Octopoma and Arenifera, to assess phylogenetic placement and relationships of these genera. -

We studied several aspects of the cactus diversity in the Huizache, an area located in the south- ern extreme of the Chihuahuan Desert Region, in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. Fieldwork was conducted in ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ a square-shaped polygon (22 30 –23 00 N, 100 00 –100 30 W), where a total of 80 systematically- chosen localities were sampled for cactus species. Results showed that the Huizache is an important focal point for the conservation of the Cactaceae, due to the remarkably high diversity of members of this plant family in the area. With 75 species recorded, this area has the highest concentration of cactus species in the American Continent, in comparison with other comparably-sized regions. The outstanding diversity of cactus species in the Huizache area may be explained by the relatively favorable climate of this desert area, its environmental heterogeneity, and its location in a transitional position between three regions with distinct cactus floras: Chihuahuan Desert Region, Queretaroan-Hidalgoan Arid Zone, and Tula-Jaumave Valleys. Species richness is not distributed evenly in the area; the zones of highest species concentration are primarily located in the lowland valleys, in the northwestern portion of the grid square, where typical Chihuahuan Desert conditions prevail. -

A sneak preview The room was small and crowded, people were moving around and chatting all the time: it was very distracting. F., Mexico. *Correspondent: [email protected] Abstract. With the aim of assessing the extent of geographical rarity of Mexican Cactaceae, we calculated the distribution size (area of occupancy) of 142 species from the Chihuahuan Desert. In addition, using 2 variables (number of localities and range size), we preliminarily assessed their conservation status using the current IUCN Red List criteria. The results showed enormous variation in the areas of occupancy, although from the biogeographic and conservation perspective the most exceptional group comprises the extremely narrow endemics (42 species), whose range is restricted to areas smaller than 10 km2. Our results reinforce the reputation of this plant family as exceptionally rare geographically. We suggest that geographical rarity of Cactaceae in the Chihuahuan Desert is a natural phenomenon; however, we propose that the range of several species has been infl uenced by human activities. Regarding the conservation status of the species, 75 of them are categorized as Least concern. The remaining 67 species (47.2%) fall in 1 of the 3 categories of threat (27 Vulnerable, 11 Endangered, and 29 Critically endangered). These fi gures confi rm the critical conservation status of Mexican Cactaceae.
