  • The Best Restaurants and Hotels
★★★ THE BEST RESTAURANTS AND HOTELS EDITION ★★★ Robbe & Berking Restaurant Guide 2017 ★★★ Dear Friends of Fine Cuisine, Delicious Food and Tables Set in Style, This 10th anniversary edition of our restaurant guide is bursting with 234 culinary hotspots featuring 143 Michelin stars. All the eateries listed have one thing in common: their outstanding performance. The very best produce and ingredients are prepared with meticulous attention to detail here by creative chefs with incredible fl air who really love their job. If they didn’t, they wouldn’t make it onto this prestigious list. And speaking of love, there’s another thing that sets these restaurants apart: real love – real silver. After all, the trappings and the atmosphere also play an important role in the dining experience. Even the greatest masterpiece needs a stage to unveil its full effect. Nowadays, it seems there’s a constant pressure for everything to become quicker, more convenient and easier all the time. All the more comforting, then, to know that these restaurants and the people behind them exist. Dine with the best and enjoy yourself. Yours, Oliver Berking 2 3 Alta Alta is a veritable classic amongst the Moderns. Despite its somewhat austere appearance, this range of cutlery conveys an almost sensuous feeling of pure pleasure for the eye and also for the hands. The reason is that its chiselled fi nish allows us to experience the beauty of the silver, there is no unneces- sary ornamentation to distract our gaze away from the clarity of the lines. With its simplistic beauty and its taut silhouette, Alta makes us feel that this is the one and only shape that is justifi ed in providing the basic pattern for every contemporary style of cutlery today.

HANS WIEDEMANN DELEGATE OF THE BOARD OF BADRUTT’S PALACE HOTEL As a proud graduate of the École Hôtelière de Lausanne, Hans Wiedemann served as a member of the school’s International Advisory Board for over two decades. Aside from his responsibilities as an advisory board member, Wiedemann enjoyed to mentor young talents as well as assist and guide them on a successful career path. Named “Hotelier of the Year 2007” in Switzerland and “Hotelier of the World 2009” in New York, he has been internationally recognized for his wealth of experience which he gained in Europe, Asia and Australia. Among his assignments, Mr Wiedemann successfully opened and managed a luxury establishment of 600 rooms with 1’300 employees in China from 1991 to 1993. He spent altogether 13 years in Australia, where towards the end he managed five hotel properties with a total of 2’000 employees. In this role he was presented with the “National Award of Excellence in Service.” The Australian and Swiss citizen was asked to return to Europe in 1995 to direct the prestigious Le Montreux Palace Hotel SA Hotel & Casino. In his nine years as Managing Director, substantial investments were made to preserve and restore the property’s Belle Époque grandeur and history as well as to enhance the overall destination. Among these developments, he effectively led the acquisition of the Le Grand Jeu licence along with negotiating the transfer of the casino ownership and management to the Barriere group. During his time in Montreux, Wiedemann also supported MTGN (Chemin de fer Montreux– Territet–Glion–Rochers-de-Naye) the local train company, as an active board member to their Rochers-de-Naye destination.

Koch There are professionals who possess vision, experience, pioneering abilities and can serve as an example and inspiration to new managers. The European Hotel Managers Association has decided to award Hans Wiedemann, Managing Director & Delegate of the Board of the Badrutt’s Palace St. Moritz, for his extraordinary career on the occasion of the annual General Meeting that took place on March 17/19 in The Netherlands. Hans Wiedemann has received from the hands of President Hans E. Koch the “Ehma Lifetime Achievement Award”. It is in fact the mission of the Association to promote the professional development of its members, who are committed to fostering fellowship and respect to better serve the industry. One of the top hotel managers in Switzerland, Wiedemann has a wealth of experience gained from working in leading positions around the world. Hans Wiedemann was born in 1953 in Basel, the son of two physicians, married to his wife Martha and father of two children, Raphael and Rebecca. He graduated from the world-famous École Hôteliére de Lausanne, where today he remains a member of the school’s International Advisory Board. After various stints in Switzerland, Wiedemann relocated abroad where he successfully managed an establishment of 600 rooms in China, before spending 13 years managing five top hotels – and some 2,000 employees – in Australia.
