U14 football v Cheadle On Thursday evening Thomas Alleynes yr9 boys began their high school football career. On a lovely warm evening the boys were able to go through a long warm up to prepare as they waited for their opponents. The first game for us is always challenging as our opposition schools have been playing together since yr7. The 2 teams were evenly matched and played some good football. Cheadles tactics were more direct and their long balls held up in the lush turf to create goals with indecision at the back for Alleynes. Jed Brunt who was given the honour of captaining the side scored a sublime goal with his left foot curling the ball past the outstretched keeper. George Twigge then prodded home from a Callum Stockbridge strike. Final score Thomas Alleynes 2 Cheadle 3. Man of the match- Callum Stockbridge Team Whitehead, Hooker-Myles, Ball, Evans, Van Hoek, Stockbridge, Jakes, Kenny, Mangon, Brunt, Hocking, Cope, Twigge, Fountain, Clarkson. Year 10 Football Last Thursday saw the year 10 football team have their first outing of the new season. A familiar team lined up against a well organise De Ferrers side. The game was a well fought contest with De Ferrers coming out on top with a 3-2 win. Year 11 Football Thursday night saw the year 11 team open their campaign of the new season against Cheadle High School. Led by Archie Whitehead, in central midfield the boys made an excellent to the game. Some very good football led to the first goal with Jay Ratcliffe scoring after a number of well played passes. Alleyne’s second goal came very soon after, with right back Brad Cope, player of the first half scoring from a deflected shot. The first half saw the team in total control of the game. Unfortunately the second half did not have the same result. Starting sprightly Alleyne’s were awarded a penalty thanks to the dramatics of Robbie Minshall. Whitehead step forward to take the spot but missed! From that moment on Cheadle took heart from the miss and began to dominate the game. Alleyene’s dropped deeper and deeper into their half and conceded to quick goals. A third goal for Cheadle struck with 10 minutes to go was too much for the battling year 11’s. despite a change in formation the score remained at 3-2 at the final whistle. Leadership Big thanks to Joe Lobosco, Josh Owen and Owen Carrington for refereeing school. U16 Football Moorlands League V Painsley H After last weeks 7-1 win over JCB confidence was high. This was a completely different proposition though with Painsley providing a stern test. The name was end to end in the first half with Painsley being far more clinical at both ends of the field. The half time score was 0-3. At half time Alleyne’s were positive that they could get back into the game and 2 quick goals from man of the match Harry Johnson brought the score back to 2-3 and Alleyne’s pushed for more. Sadly as Alleyne’s attacked they were caught with two quick sucker punches and the score blew out to 3-8. U14 Football Moorlands League v Painsley H Alleyne’s were coming off the back of 3 wins in a row, but the first half was back to the drawing board as a lack of communication and team work saw Painsley go into a comfortable 0-3 lead. The second half saw John Ball get on the score sheet and and then Jed Brunt make it 2-3. Alleyne’s played much better second half and pushed for an equaliser but had left themselves too much to do. U14 Rugby County Cup v King Edward Stafford H We had a very keen and enthusiastic squad of 28 players and began very well. We were caught cold by a breakaway try but after that Alleynes matched the experienced opposition well. Lewis Caparas playing his first ever rugby match made a great break but then ran over the dead ball line, Alleyne’s follwed this up with good pressure and were rewarded by a try to scrum half Seb Hancox. The second half saw Alleynes make full use of their squad and all players aquited themselves very well. The weather played a huge part with continuous torrential rain falling. The final score was 5-12 and but for a couple of errors we could have secured a win. Man of the match – Reuben Kenny Team-Hayden Fisher, Harry Lunn, Ricardo Goncalves, Finley Ashton, Charlie Beckett, Jack Bennett, Archie Fountain, Harry Van Hoek, Will Jakes, Arron Curtis, Sam Brown, Seb Hancox, Kane Allsup, George Beech, Reuben Kenny, Kamron McCutcheon, Josh Rogers, Freddie Whitehead, John Ball, Tommy Mangan, Harry Ashton, Jimmy Wilson, Connor McLaughlin, Lewis Caparas, Will Hocking, Will Lane, Jake Wildridge, Joshua Tortonesi Cross-Country Seven year nine students battled the heavy rain and strong winds whilst competing in the Rowley Park cross country championships on Wednesday. All students completed the relatively flat 3,500m course. In the girls competition there were just under 50 competitors, Olivia Gregory was first home for TAHS finish 9th, the remaining team members of Ella Barber, Freya Bettany, Madison Perry and Eleanor McCarthy place well to enable the team to finish in the bronze medal placing. In the boys race made up of 60 competitors Edwards Smith finished 12th and Tyler Pobiarzyn 32nd. Both Olivia and Edward have been selected to run for the County at a race in November. Girls Hockey Friendly fixtures were held against QEGS of Ashbourne on Thursday night. Kim Burgess, Emily Barton, Sophie Lomas, Meghan Geofferson, Courtney Bogacki and Lily Ashmore enjoyed a 1-0 victory against the B team and a 2-2 draw against the A team, with Courtney scoring all the goals. Emma-Jo Gilbert, Shani Wright, Eleanor Punchard, Bea Egerton, Jemima Pope and Ellie Wilson beat the A team 3-1 and drew 1-1 against the B team. Both games were great for development and we look forward to hosting QUEGS in a return fixture soon. U16 Football Staffordshire Moorland League and Cup You may have seen on Facebook that on Thursday we made the short trip to Rocester FC to play JCB in a league and cup double header. After his penalty saving exploits in the last game Kyle Young was named captain, their was increased pressure on Kyle as the reserve goal keeper was ruled out at the last minute with an as yet un-diagnosed injury. We made a strong start creating a number of chances which Robbie Minshall nearly converted. Harry Johnson put Alleyne’s in the lead, with a well taken header and shortly after Harry Broome making his first appearance of the season as he recovers from injury, fired in a second. Alleyne’s were in control at the back with Alex Brain and Owen Gregory communicating well thanks to extra time in English last week. The only time JCB got into the Alleyne’s area they were awarded a penalty for handball against usual skipper Archie Whitehead. The JCB player sent Young the wrong way to make it 2-1 but it was only delaying the inevitable. Alleyne’s were soon back on the attack and restored their lead through Joe Haywood who was having a great game at left wing. A great cross then saw the leaping Johnson head in his second for a half time score on 4-1. At half time the focus was on improving our goal difference. Matthew Wallis was introduced to provide more ammunition on the left now his bus had arrived but an error by his kit man meant Jack Edge could not be used.Alleyne’s dominated the possession and territory with Whitehead and Jay Hughes Ratcliffe dictating the play. After a brief flirtation up front for Alex Brain who celebrates his birthday today, Alleynes went to 2-4-4. An Alleyne’s supporter said they had never seen a formation like it! It proved effective though as Alleyne’s scored further goals through Haywood and Broome with Minshall finally getting on the score sheet. As full backs Brad Cope and Kieran Coates pushed further and further forward the score threatened to get bigger until the referee called time early. Final score 7-1Man of The match Joe Haywood Year 11 County Rugby Last Wednesday saw the first run out of the season for the Year 11 rugby team. They were draw against last years County Champions, Leek Westwood. Right from the kick off it was clear that Alleyne’s were up against a very strong outfit. Leek dominated the first half scoring a number of tries through their very strong back line. The Alleyne’s boys put up a great fight but the forward dominance was too much for them.
