EDITORIAL 2016 / BBC WEEK 33 ______

RONNI ANCONA & KEVIN WHATELY ARE FOR LAUGHS

TV Favourites, Ronni Ancona and Kevin Whately will guest star in the much-anticipated new series of BBC One comedy, Still Game, starring alongside all the original cast including writers and stars, and who play evergreen pensioners, Jack Jarvis and Victor McDade.

Ronni Ancona (, ) and Kevin Whately (Lewis, Inspector George Gently) will guest star in separate episodes when the six-part series returns later this year after a nine year hiatus. The original Still Game cast have been filming at the BBC Dumbarton Studios since the start of July and are currently on location in for the final two weeks of the shoot.

Ronni Ancona is delighted to be guest starring in the much-anticipated return of Still Game: “I’m so honoured and thrilled to be part of Still Game. I’m a huge fan of the show and I’m delighted to be back with the old gang again who I worked with on Pulp Video many years ago. That’s the official line. The truth is it’s really all an excuse to get close to Navid [] – all that polyester clothing really does it for me!”

Kevin Whately adds: “The script made me laugh out loud and I’m really looking forward to filming it!”

Steven Canny, BBC Comedy, Executive Producer says: “We’re delighted to welcome these two outstanding actors in to the Still Game family. Kevin is one of the most prominent, accomplished and experienced actors in the UK and Ronni’s comedy credentials speak for themselves. We’re lucky to have them onboard and I can’t wait to see them tangling with Jack and Victor.”

As well as Ronni and Kevin, the new series will see guest appearances from David Elliot (Outlander, The Wee Man), Paul James Corrigan (River City, Gary Tank Commander), Barbara Rafferty (Rab C Nesbitt, River City), David Ireland (Scot Squad, Mountain Goats), Moray Hunter (Absolutely, Bob Servant) and Louise Stewart (Burnistoun, Rillington Place).

All of the original cast - Ford Kiernan, Greg Hemphill, Jane McCarry, Gavin Mitchell, Paul Riley, Mark Cox and Sanjeev Kohli – will return alongside Still Game favourites Stevie the bookie (Matt Costello), Shug (Paul Young), Eric (James Martin), Frances (Kate Donnelly), Fergie (Jamie Quinn) and new series regular Methadone Mick played by Scott Reid (Sketchland).

The new series of Still Game is a BBC in-house production and was commissioned by Shane Allen, Controller of Comedy Commissioning. The new six-part series is executive produced by Ewan Angus, BBC Scotland and Steven Canny, BBC Comedy. It is directed by long-time Still Game collaborator Michael Hines and produced by Jacqueline Sinclair.

This new series of Still Game will go straight to network on BBC One in a primetime slot and builds on the comedy’s growing worldwide fanbase with fans as far afield as Australia and Canada. Following a mammoth 21-night run of live shows at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro Arena in 2015, audiences have been waiting in anticipation for Still Game to make its TV return.

The original run of the sitcom, which stars Kiernan and Hemphill as Glaswegian pensioners Jack and Victor, aired for six series between 2002 and 2007, transferring from BBC Scotland to BBC Two.
