Trusadh - Nar Lamhan Fhin...(In Our Own Hands)  NEW Monday 13 August / Thursday 16 August BBC ALBA, 9.30 – 10.30pm

2018 is a historic year for community land ownership in Scotland. It marks 25 years since the Assynt crofters took ownership of their own land, and their own destinies. They were pioneers, and since then almost 50 community buyouts have followed in Scotland. Land reform changes in Scotland have also seen inner city community buyouts become a reality more recently. Land ownership in Scotland, in particular in the Highlands & Islands, has a long and turbulent history, stretching right back to the Highland clearances. Trusadh looks at the story of Scotland’s community land ownership, and the ongoing challenges facing the communities that have chosen this path. The programme visits Assynt, Eigg, Glendale in Skye, Gigha, Galson in Lewis, and Barmulloch in . At the heart of each initiative is regeneration - creating opportunities, jobs, and improving people’s lives. While there are many benefits, it’s not without its difficulties.

THURSDAY 16 AUGUST TELEVISION & RADIO HIGHLIGHTS / BBC WEEK 33 ______

Ameireaga air Film / America in Colour  NEW Thursday 16 August BBC ALBA, 11.00 – 11.55pm

In never before seen archive, this documentary shows us the era of the 1920s, in colour, for the first time. In the 1920s, the USA undergoes the greatest period of change in its history. In ten years a country of horse drawn carriages, modest clothing and saloons is overthrown. Women win the right to vote, triggering the birth of what becomes known as the flapper. They drink socially, dance and pioneer an entirely new look, shaping the next generation of independent women. But then, alcohol is banned in Prohibition. The intention is to clean up society, but instead it creates a thriving underground cultural of music, racial mixing and illegal alcohol. In the south the cultural changes unsettle many. The Ku Klux Klan rises and a court case in Tennessee puts the bible itself on trial.
