Mark’s wife, Dawn, used to feel that way too, but in the last year she took up cycling and got hooked. New to the world of cycling clubs, Mark thinks the club is full of weird, dreadful, insecure people who should take the money they waste on buying lycra cycling gear and spend it on therapy. Mark discovers that not only was he pretty much right about this group of cyclists being insecure and easily angered, but that he’s fast becoming the worst of them all. Mark is played by Greg McHugh, Dawn by Lucianne McEvoy, Brennan by Richard Gadd, Jack by Richard Rankin, Francis by Robin Laing and Sue by Sally Reid. JW TUESDAY 23 APRIL TELEVISION & RADIO HIGHLIGHTS / BBC WEEK 17 _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Body Builders Unfiltered NEW (Ep 1/1) Tuesday 23 April BBC Scotland, 10.00-11.00pm Stu and Sophie are pumping iron and eating six huge meals every day. They’re on a mission to win the World Bodybuilding Finals in Las Vegas. This programme sees how their extreme training regime affects their physical and mental health and their relationship. Thirty-three year old Stu Mac is the only professional in Scotland in the international WBFF Bodybuilders Federation. Sophie, at just 23, is the only Scottish professional female in her class. With combined Instagram followers of 150,000 they’re also developing a loyal following and are on the cusp of becoming social media influencers. To achieve the extreme physiques required to step on stage, they first go through the ‘bulk’ - a process which involves eating over 6,000 calories a day, whilst simultaneously increasing the weights they lift at the gym. As the competition date approaches, they then turn to the “cut” when they drastically reduce their food intake. Cameras follow them through the whole process as their body fat plummets. Over eight months of filming, Sophie and Stuart are brutally honest about the lengths that they will go to achieve the perfect body. From stomach churning workouts, to fake tans and sparkling bikinis, as their story unfolds, their determination to succeed takes its toll on their relationship. Through story and anecdote, we take a journey from the first days at primary school, right through to the very different world of the high school, and the beginning of adult life. The final programme in the series follows that journey to secondary school life, another big change for any scholar. It was their first steps in to adult life and a whole new world. New teachers, new subjects and new friends, and for some a new home, as they went to the hostel. There was also the excitement of discovering the world of fashion, dances, café culture and courting! IS WEDNESDAY 24 APRIL TELEVISION & RADIO HIGHLIGHTS / BBC WEEK 17 ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Scotland’s Home Of The Year, Ep3/8 Wednesday 24 April BBC Scotland, 8.00-8.30pm Three houses in the West of the country go under the spotlight in this week’s search for Scotland’s Home Of The Year. Judges Michael Angus, Anna Campbell-Jones and Kate Spiers first visit a stunning renovated Edwardian family home in the suburb of Giffnock, East Renfrewshire. The homeowners spent three years painstakingly restoring period features and updating the kitchen and bathrooms. High above the Sound of Mull in Argyll, the judges find a beautiful self-build with lots of curved lines and a vast mix of materials at its heart with some stand-out unusual features including some quirky ‘mousehole’ arches under the stairs. Finally, there’s a very urban property to consider, overlooking Glasgow Green. This first-floor flat has some surprising features including sliding walls, hidden rooms and, as one judge discovers, a generous bath. Each home is scored for its appeal and clever design but only one will be good enough to reach the final. Scotland’s Home of the Year is an IWC Media production for BBC Scotland.
