Plötzlich erhält D, die Angst vor Veränderungen hat, das Angebot einer großen Einzelausstellung. Wird die Ehe zerbrechen oder ein Neuanfang gelingen? Stellt sich heraus, dass ihr Traumhaus die ganze Zeit schon ein Gefängnis war? PRESSENOTIZ EXHIBITION, der dritte Film der „einzigartig begabten Filmemacherin“ (Martin Scorsese) Joanna Hogg, ist ein großstädtisches Kammerspiel mit drei Darstellern: der Ex-Slits-Gitarristin Viv Albertine, dem Maler und Objektkünstler Liam Gillick und dem „H-House“ des Architekten James Melvin. PRODUKTIONSNOTIZEN EXHIBITION ist der dritte Spielfilm von Joanna Hogg, einer vor allem von der britischen Filmkritik umjubelten Filmregisseurin und –autorin, die 2007 mit UNRELATED auf sich aufmerksam machte und deren zweiter Spielfilm ARCHIPELAGO (2010) auch in Deutschland ins Kino kam. Beide Filme zeigten Hoggs Talent für Ensemblechoreografien, für einen analytisch- beobachtenden Stil und einen scharfen Blick auf die englische Mittelklasse – deren Verhaltensweisen, Ängste, Tabus und Verletzlichkeiten sie sehr genau kennt. UNRELATED und ARCHIPELAGO sind raue emotionale Dramen und spröde Sozialkomödien gleichermaßen, die ihre Autorin als originelle neue Stimme im britischen Kino ausweisen. -

Flouton-Barnes Cinematic Sessions: The Ethics of Therapy in Hollywood Film ABSTRACT This qualitative study was undertaken to examine how the therapeutic process is depicted in modern films produced for American audiences over the past two decades, with special reference to how the conventions of ethics in therapy are treated, and to discuss the implications of these findings for clinical practice. A sample of 50 films that featured at least one scene of individual therapy was identified and surveyed using a coding scheme developed for this project. The domains of interest included: clinician, client, and session demographics, and adherence to ethical standards as portrayed in therapy scenes. This study was undertaken to contribute a more recent voice to the growing clinical discussion about the representation of mental health practitioners in film and to call attention to the specific strengths and shortcomings therein. The findings are discussed from a social learning theory framework and the implications for social work practice are discussed. -

Greenberg (2011) “You like me so much more than you think you do.” Major Credits: Director: Noah Baumbach Screenplay: Noah Baumbach, from a story by Baumbach and Jennifer Jason Leigh Cinematography: Harris Savides Music: James Murphy Principal Cast: Ben Stiller (Roger Greenberg), Greta Gerwig (Florence), Rhys Ifans (Ivan), Jennifer Jason Leigh (Beth) Production Background: Baumbach, the son of two prominent New York writers whose divorce he chronicled in his earlier feature The Squid and the Whale (2005), co-wrote the screenplay with his then-wife, Jennifer Jason Leigh, who plays the role of Greenberg’s former girlfriend. His friend and sometime collaborator (they wrote The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou together), Wes Anderson, co-produced Greenberg with Leigh. Most of Baumbach’s films to date deal with characters who are disappointed in their lives, which do not conform to their ideal conceptions of themselves. At whatever age—a father in his 40s, his pretentious teenage son (The Squid and the Whale), a college graduate in her late twenties (Frances Ha, 2012)—they struggle to act like grownups. The casting of Greta Gerwig developed into an enduring romantic and creative partnership: Gerwig co-wrote and starred in his next two films, Frances Ha and Mistress America (2015). Screenplay: Like the work of one of his favorite filmmakers, Woody Allen, Baumbach’s dramedy combines literate observation (“All the men dress up as children and the children dress as superheroes”) and bitter commentary (“Life is wasted on… people”) with poignant confession (“It’s huge to finally embrace the life you never planned on”). -

MoMA | press | Releases | 2001 | Good Marchine: Tenth Anniversary Page 1 of 4 For Immediate Release February 2001 THE MUSEUM OF MODERN ART TO CELEBRATE TENTH ANNIVERSARY OF GOOD MACHINE, NEW YORK-BASED PRODUCTION COMPANY Good Machine: Tenth Anniversary February 13-23, 2001 The Roy and Niuta Titus Theatre 1 Over the past ten years, Good Machine, a New York-based production company helmed by Ted Hope, David Linde and James Schamus, has become one of the major forces in independent film culture worldwide. Dedicated to the work of emerging, innovative filmmakers, Good Machine has produced or co-produced films by, among others, Ang Lee, Todd Solondz, Nicole Holofcener, Ed Burns, Cheryl Dunye and Hal Hartley. Beginning with Tui Shou (Pushing Hands) (1992), the first collaboration between Good Machine and director Ang Lee, The Museum of Modern Art presents eight feature films and five shorts from February 13 through 23, 2001 at the Roy and Niuta Titus Theatre 1. "Good Machine proves that audiences do want to be entertained intelligently and engaged substantively," remarks Laurence Kardish, Senior Curator, Department of Film and Video, who organized the series. "Their achievements are reflected in this Tenth Anniversary series and are, in large part, due to Good Machine's collaborations with filmmakers and its respect for the creative process." In addition to producing and co-producing films, Good Machine has gone on to establish an international sales company involved in distributing diverse and unusual works such as Joan Chen's Xiu Xiu: The Sent-Down Girl (1998) and Lars Von Trier's Dancer in the Dark (2000). -

Friday 14 February 2020, London. BFI Southbank’s TILDA SWINTON season, programmed in partnership with the performer and filmmaker herself, will run from 1 – 18 March 2020, celebrating the extraordinary, convention-defying career of one of cinema’s finest and most deft chameleons. The BFI today announce that a number of Swinton’s closest collaborators will join her on stage during the season to speak about their work together including Wes Anderson (Isle of Dogs, The French Dispatch, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Moonrise Kingdom), Bong Joon-ho (Snowpiercer, Okja), Sally Potter (Orlando) and Joanna Hogg (The Souvenir, Caprice). Also announced today is Tilda Swinton’s Film Equipment (28 February – 26 April) a free exhibit to accompany the season which has been curated in close collaboration with BFI and Swinton’s personal archive. Alongside a programme of feature film screenings, shorts and personal favourites, the season will include Tilda Swinton in Conversation with host Mark Kermode on 3 March, during which Swinton will look back on her wide- reaching career as a performer across independent and Hollywood cinema, as well as producer, director and general ally of maverick free spirits everywhere. On the same evening will be Tilda Swinton and Wes Anderson on stage: A Magical Tour of Cinema – a unique chance to hear from two of the most fervent disciples of the church of make believe, as Swinton and Anderson take to the BFI stage to discuss their many collaborations and their film passions. The event will offer a glimpse into their intimate partnership as the two long-time co-conspirators and voracious cinephiles select and explore personal favourite gems from throughout cinema’s history. -

Welcome to the 21th Annual Moviate Underground Film Festival at ARTSFEST May 24th-26th, 2019 Schedule of Events (All events are free, but we suggest a $3-$5 donation to help the festival.) Welcome to the 21st Annual Moviate Underground Film Festival at Harrisburg's Artsfest! The past 20 festivals have been a testament to our DIY aesthetic, and we are excited to keep on with the annual tradition of showing many amazing films over the Memorial Day weekend. As in past years, we are excited to project many of the films as Super-8 or 16mm film prints. This is our seventh year showing our daytime programming in the wonderful Civic Club building along the Susquehanna River. We continue our tradition of our evening screenings at the great Midtown Cinema on Reily Street. To kick off the festival on Friday night, we welcome artist Mike Diana, who will be presenting a Frank Hennenlotter documentary "Boiled Angels: The Trial of Mike Diana" followed by a Q&A with Mike himself (8:00PM). On Saturday night, at 7:30PM, we are excited to welcome filmmaker Todd Solondz, who will present the classic film,"Welcome To The Dollhouse". Todd's films (including "Happiness", "Storytelling", "Palindromes" among others) have always been a hit with indie and underground crowds, but his 1995 feature has become an endearing classic. Todd will introduce "Welcome To the Dollhouse" and there will be a post-screening Q&A as well. Following Todd's appearance will be a great documetary on VON LMO, called "Future Language", with director Lori Felker, from Chicago, in-person. -

1997 SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL The 1997 Sundance Film Festival continued to attract crowds, international attention and an appreciative group of alumni fi lmmakers. Many of the Premiere fi lmmakers were returning directors (Errol Morris, Tom DiCillo, Victor Nunez, Gregg Araki, Kevin Smith), whose earlier, sometimes unknown, work had received a warm reception at Sundance. The Piper-Heidsieck tribute to independent vision went to actor/director Tim Robbins, and a major retrospective of the works of German New-Wave giant Rainer Werner Fassbinder was staged, with many of his original actors fl own in for forums. It was a fi tting tribute to both Fassbinder and the Festival and the ways that American independent cinema was indeed becoming international. Welcome to the Spring Cinema Series… a unique opportunity to learn about cinema in an interdisciplinary, cinematheque-style environment open to the general public! Throughout the term we will invite a variety of special guests to enrich your understanding of the films in the series. The films will be preceded by formal introductions and followed by public discussions. You are welcome and encouraged to bring guests throughout the term! This is not a traditional class, therefore it is important for you to review the course assignments and due dates carefully to ensure that you fulfill all the requirements to earn the grade you desire. We want the Cinema Series to be both entertaining and enlightening for students and community alike. Welcome to our college film club! COURSE DESCRIPTION This course will introduce students to one of the most powerful cultural and social communications media of our time: cinema. The successful student will become more aware of the complexity of film art, more sensitive to its nuances, textures, and rhythms, and more perceptive in “reading” its multilayered blend of image, sound, and motion. The films, texts, and classroom materials will cover a broad range of domestic, independent, and international cinema, making students aware of the culture, politics, and social history of the periods in which the films were produced. -

The upheaval causes anxieties to surface, and wife and performance artist D, struggles to control the personal and creative aspects of her life with H. Dreams, memories, fears, have all imprinted themselves on their home, which exists as a container for their lives and has played such an important role in their relationship. LONG SYNOPSIS Artists D (Viv Albertine) and H (Liam Gillick) are a married couple who have lived together in a West London house for nearly 20 years. It is a modernist house - all verticals, reflecting windows and sliding partitions – and seemingly the ideal residence for two artists who each work independently at home in their separate spaces, occasionally communicating briefly by intercom. Throughout EXHIBITION we see D and H living together, working separately, communicating or failing to communicate – in a series of moments depicting a long-term relationship that sometimes seems to be in meltdown, at other times extremely strong. It’s autumn. H suggests to D that she’s unwilling to discuss her work with him; she says she’s reluctant to expose herself to his criticism.
