Bibliographie Karl Rahner Bibliographie Karl Rahner Stand März 2018 © Universitätsbibliothek Freiburg im Breisgau – Albert Raffelt – 1998 – 2018 Bibliographie des Schrifttums von Karl Rahner Stand: März 2018 – zum 114. Geburtstag Karl Rahners und zum Abschluß der Ausgabe seiner Sämtli- chen Werke Vorwort Die Zählung der folgenden Bibliographie beruht auf derjenigen der Bibliographie Karl Rahner 1924- 1969 / Herausgegeben von Roman BLEISTEIN ; Elmar KLINGER. Freiburg i.Br. Einige englische Übersetzungen sind zusätzlich enthalten (Spirit in the World, Hearer of the word und die Theological investigations). • Sacramental Theology and the World Church
SACRAMENTAL THEOLOGY AND THE WORLD CHURCH In the last decade or two of his life, Karl Rahner detected the emergent reality of a new era in the history of the Church and, whether consequently or antecedantly, in the history of the world.1 His idea of an incipient "world Church" was prompted by the specifically Catholic experience of the Second Vatican Council, which brought together in Rome some two thousand bishops from all six continents. Rahner was a European, and more particularly a German-speaking European. His active ecumenism bloomed late: it was practically limited to contacts with Germanic Lutheranism, and it remained to the end rather bookish. For good or ill, my own cultural and ecclesial perspectives differ considerably from Rahner's. I am a minister of the British Methodist Church, with whose maternal milk I took in a commitment to ecumenism in its classical Faith and Order form, including the goal of organic unity such as has been achieved or attempted among local and regional churches of different denominations in many parts of the British Commonwealth. I worked for six years as a missionary in French-speaking Equatorial Africa, and for the past five years I have lived in the U.S.A. These differences need to be kept in mind as I seek to interact with Rahner's concept of a world Church, and more particularly from the angle of sacramental theology. The world Church appears first in Rahner's eyes as an historico- geographical phenomenon. But even then it is not merely a matter of extension in time and space.

Emery de Gaál, PhD 1. Introduction: Scheffczyk’s Theological Œuvre The shortest way to introduce Leo Scheffczyk (1920– 2005) to an American theological audience is probably to state that he is “the European Avery Dulles.” Such a generalization is incorrect and yet contains a kernel of truth.1 At the same consistory in 2001, both master theologians were created cardinals by St. John Paul II. It is also most indicative of their contributions to theology that this date coincided with the 200th birthday of Blessed Cardinal John Henry Newman (1801–90), who informed their thinking in central ways.

No. 30 (New Series) Spring, 1995 The Rosary Since Vatican II Reports about the rosary's demise are premature. The same shops which a few months ago sold recordings of Gregorian chant from the monks of St. Dominic de Silos now feature cassettes of the pope reciting the rosary. Those unfamiliar with the rosary appear curious; others wonder whether there might be a relation between the rosary and the current interest in spirituality and prayer. Publishing trends frequently indicate religious interests: twice as many books and articles have appeared on the rosary in the last ten years as there were in the previous twenty. Some form of the rosary has been part of Western Catholicism for almost seven hundred years. Pope Leo XIII (1878-1903) wrote thirteen encyclicals on the rosary, and · twentieth-centUry popes have been its most ardent promot ers, both in their writings and by their personal example. Perhaps no one has promoted it more than Pope John Paul II. In the 1940s and 1950s, rosary devotions, rallies, and crusades were part of Catholic life. The rosary was a part Mother and Son Scuplture by Gerard Darwin of the message at Fatima and Lourdes, apparitions which Marist College Canberra (Australia) figured prominently in those decades. Bishop Fulton Sheen explained to television audiences the meaning of his devotions, and that devotional practices, sometimes tinged Mission Rosary, and Father Patrick Peyton tirelessly pro with a self-centered individualism, had ceded to the liturgy moted the Family Rosary through rallies in every part of which, because of its official character and communal the world.

  • HERBERT SCHAMBECK the Human Rights in the Doctrine
HERBERT SCHAMBECK The human rights in the doctrine of the Catholic Church (Translated from German by Mrs. A. Elmendorff-Pfeiffer, Düsseldorf) The human rights1 are in the statute law the expression of the recognition of human dignity2 and of the personification thereof. ROLAND MINNERATH has given hereto a clear illustration: „In the person is given the dignity as an irreductible fact and as a realizable curriculum”.3 I. The human rights represent a value personified in the human being which is prepositive because it takes the lead over the state and its reglementations.4 This value cannot be created by the state or by law, it rather is to be recognized by positive law. The character of the human rights5 is declarative. An existing value is recognized; this is taken up by the statute law of a state and in the text6 is used the term „recognize”, as for instance „the freedom and the human dignity are recognized”. The human rights determine the relations between the individual and the state. Under the ideological aspect the human rights are a substantial part of the occidental lawful way of thinking7 and within them a secularization of Christian thinking8 for which the Catholic Church has laid the base. By the doctrine of the human rights the Catholic Church tries to secure the position of the individual through the law within the state. 1 S. Felix Ermacora, Menschenrechte in der sich wandelnden Welt (human rights in the changing world), 1974. 2 More details Paul Kirchhof, Menschenwürde und Freiheit (human dignity and freedom), in: Manual of Chatholic social doctrine, edited by Anton Rauscher, 2008, S.

DOGMATIC THEOLOGY Rocznik Teologii Katolickiej, tom XVIII, rok 2019 Rev. Manfred Hauke Theological Faculty of Lugano 0000-0003-2087-0591 DOI: 10.15290/rtk.2019.18.02 The Second Vatican Council’s Doctrine on Mary and St. Pope John Paul II’s Interpretation of It1 This article traces the origin and content of the Dogmatic Constitution on the Church: Lumen Gentium’s chapter on Mary, which served as the focal point of the Second Vatican Council’s doctrine on the Mother of God in the mystery of Christ and the Church. The article proceeds to describe the Archbishop of Cracow Karol Wojtyla’s participation in conciliar discussions on Mary and then focuses on how Pope John Paul II embraced conciliar Mariology and reflected it in his teachings. What St. Pope John Paul II wrote about Mary goes beyond Vatican II’s Mariological teaching and includes Mary’s mediation, consecration to Mary, and Her role as the “Spouse of the Holy Spirit.” Pope Saint John Paul II offers a valuable paradigm for interpreting the Second Vatican Council. Key words: Mariology, John Paul II, Lumen Gentium, Church, Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, Second Vatican Council. Introduction The ancient Church called the Mother of God the “Scepter of Ortho- dox Faith,” meaning that we perceive true faith and the importance of Jesus Christ in the Virgin Mary.2 While leading the Church on earth as Pope Benedict XVI (2005-2013), Joseph Ratzinger recalled a title 1 An earlier version of this article was published in German. Carroll: A Survey of Recent Mariology A SURVEY OF RECENT MARIOLOGY From Pentecost to Pentecost, almost a calendar year has spun by since the Marian Year began; and, as we approach its conclusion on the feast of the Assumption, the pace of publications about the Mother of Jesus is picking up greatly -an accelleration of books and articles, whole issues of magazines, along with devotional celebrations in parishes and dioceses and academic and religious communities. In this first part of my presentation for 1988, I have limited myself to English-language material~ on Mary, except for a single initial German reference.
