Abstract Genus Peucedanum belongs to the subfamily of Apioideae (Umbelliferae family) and is reported to have many medicinal properties. Several spiecis of Peucedum reported to have antispasmodic activity. Peucedanum pastinacifolium species grows in Iran. However, so far there is no report on its antispasmodic activity. The objective of this research was to investigate antispasmodic activities of P. pastinacifolium extract using in vitro isolated tissue techniques. Hydroalcoholic and hexanoic extracts were prepared by perculation method from aerial part of P. pastinacifolium. A portion of rat isolated ileum was suspended under 1g tension in Tyrode’s solution at 37 C and gassed with O2. Effects of extracts of P. pastinacifolium were studied on ileum contractions induced by KCl (80 mM), acetylcholine (ACh, 250 µM) and electrical field stimulation (EFS). The hydroalcoholic extract P. pastinacifolium concentration dependently inhibited the response to KCl (IC50=220 ± 30 g/ml), ACh (IC50=175 ± 15 g/ml) and EFS (IC50=95 ± 15 g/ml). The hexanoic extract of P. pastinacifolium also had inhibitory effect on ileum contraction induced by KCl (IC50=16 ± 2 g/ml), ACh (IC50=30 ± 5 g/ml) or EFS (IC50=11 ± 4 g/ml). From these experiments it was concluded that both hydroalcoholic and hexanoic extract of P. pastinacifolium contain substances which have antispasmodic activities but these substances are mainly concentrated in the hexanoic extract. Such systems also undergo a large range of modifications in order to fulfill other ‚cryptical‘ functions, e.g. positioning of innovation buds, vegetative cloning, and vege- tative dispersal. Seedlings should always be the point of departure for any investigation into the structure of geophilous systems. This is because in the ability to survive of geophilous plants it is of primary importance that innovation buds can reach a safe position in the soil by the time the first period hostile to vegetation commences. Our analysis of such systems thus focused on examining the development of 34 species of the Apiaceae, beginning with their germination. Independent of life-form and life-span, all species exhibit noticeable terminal bud movement with the aid of contractile organs. Movement was found to be at least 5 mm, reaching a maximum of 45 mm. All species exhibit a noticeable contraction of the primary root. In most cases the contraction phenomenon also occurs in the hypocotyl, and some species show contraction of their lateral and / or adventitious roots. Analysis of movement shows the functional importance of pulling the inno- vation buds down into the soil.

Reporter gene analysis demonstrated that inhibition takes place on the transcriptional level and involves the transcription factor NF-κB. A more detailed analysis revealed that the P. ostruthium extract (PO) affected the phosphorylation, degradation, and resynthesis of IκBα, the activation of IKKs, and the nuclear translocation of the NF-κB subunit RelA.

The current study analyzed 35 vegetables with a European region of diversity with the effort to map the conservation status in Fennoscandia and beyond. We mapped georeferenced occurrences and current genebank holdings based on global databases and conducted conservation gaps analysis based on representativeness scores in situ and ex situ. Out of the 35 target species, 19 got at a high priority score for further conservation initiatives, while another 14 species got a medium priority score. We identified a pattern where traditional vegetables are poorly represented in genebank holdings. This corresponds well to a lack of attention in the scientific community measured in number of published papers. Considering the grand challenges ahead in terms of climate change, population growth and demand for sustainability, traditional vegetables deserve greater attention. Our contribution is to provide a basis for conservation priorities among the identified vegetables species native to Fennoscandia. Women are more obese than the men in Gujarat State. Between the age of 15-49 years, 23.7% Women and 19.7% Men are overweight or obese (BMI ≥ 25.0 kg/m2) as per National Family Health Survey - 4, 2016 -17. Obesity leads to Diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and dyslipidemia. There are two major factors (i) Environmental (ii) Genetic, enhance the blood lipid levels. Basic Pathophysiology of obesity indicates insufficiency of Leptin, Ghrelin Hormones or insufficiency of Leptin, Ghrelin the receptors. Current Drug Treatment includes statins, bile acid sequestrants, ezetimibe that have side effects like rhabdomyolysis, muscle complaints, gastrointestinal disturbances, myalgia. Recent targets of the obesity are Amylin analogues, leptin analogues, GLP-1 analogues, Neuropeptide Y antagonists etc., which affects the hormonal balance into the body. Herbal Drugs are same effective as Current treatment, with no significant side effects. They are easily available from the natural sources, bio-compatible, Eco-friendly in nature.
