This was very successful last year and has once again proven popular with a flood of entries from various parts of the country. Thanks go to the many volunteers who make this event possible.

Congratulations to all those involved in the 2014 Stage Challenge. For the fourth time in 5 years our school came away the victors which is an awesome achievement. Our students presented themselves extremely well both on and off the stage.

Next Friday 30th May the school will be closed for instruction as all the teachers from rural schools are meeting for a combined professional development day. We will be involved in workshops around the vocational pathways, curriculum development and shared professional vision.

We are extremely proud of Callum Findlater and Ashleigh Hoten-Walker who have been selected as youth representatives on the Winton Community Board. This is the first board to appoint youth representatives and will give our young people a voice in local body politics. It is also a great learning opportunity for both of these students.

Offical Stadium Opening On Friday, May 9, the Senior Boys’ Volleyball Team was invited to be part of a showcase of sport for the official opening of Stadium Southland. We were honoured to meet Prime Minister John Key at the event, and pleased he accepted our offer for a round of volleyball. The Prime Minister successfully served the ball to Verdon, passed the ball to Rowan Guise, who set Leighton van Rooijen. Leighton spiked the ball and won the point. We took the opportunity to take a ‘selfie’ with John Key, which erupted into a stampede of other students wanting to join in. The Team represented CSC and Southland exceptionally well. Murihiku Maori Girls Netball Team Four students from CSC were picked for the Murihuku Maori Girls’ Netball Team. There was an Under 13 Team and an Under 15 Team. We had practice every Sunday from September 2013 to April 2014. On 19 April both teams flew to Auckland for a four day tournament. Each team had 10 games over two days and the other two days were bonding days. Both teams played some great netball and we all enjoyed our time in the North Island. Central Southland College Hoodies Check out the new CSC Hoodies! These are a generic hoodie for any team, group or individual to purchase if they wish. They have been designed to save parents money by not having to buy two, three or sometimes four different hoodies each year, for each of the teams their child belongs to. It also smartens up the sports uniform by giving CSC students a distinct and uniform identity when they are out and about. Teams wishing to purchase a bulk lot need to do this through their team managers. Initials are permitted on the hood or front corner of the waistband. (an extra $5) If teams wish to put their team name or surname on the lower back, they may do so but this will also incur additional costs. These hoodies are available for purchase at ‘The Local’ in Winton for $60.
