TOTAL 52-3 .945 237-50 .826 The Waves call Zuma Beach home, practicing and hosting all home events at one of Malibu’s most picturesque locations. Courts are located just east of Point Dume, or near the 29800 block of the Pacific Coast Highway, just seven miles from campus. Pepperdine hosted its very first event on April 5, 2012, when it welcomed local rival Long Beach State. The Waves came through with a 3-2 win. Two days later, April 7, Pepperdine faced USC on the Zuma sand. After winning the team dual 4-1, Caitlin Racich and Summer Ross won the single-elimination pairs tournament. In 2013, Pepperdine continued its dominance at home winning all five dual contests -- including four 5-0 shutouts. Even more impressive, the Waves dropped just two of the 32 individual matches contested at Zuma in 2013. Pepperdine posted nearly identical numbers in 2014, going 6-for-6 in duals, including four shutouts. The Waves’ first-ever home loss came in 2015, when the team suffered a narrow 3-2 loss to eventual national champion USC. In 2016, the Waves produced a perfect 9-0 record with six shutouts. Pepperdine went 40-5 in individual pair competition throughout those nine matches played. In 2017, Pepperdine hosted 10 matches in the season. The team lost for the second time ever at home, falling 4-1 again to eventual NCAA champion USC. Apart from the sole loss at home that season, the Waves marked nine victories, including five with sweeps. The team also posted a 39-11 individual pair record during the campaign. The Waves went undefeated at home once again in 2018, boasting an 8-0 record to end Head Coach Nina Matthies career at Zuma Beach with an uncontested home record. The team went 34-6 in those eight matches and posted three shutouts. In 2019, the Waves lost only once, but succumbed to the team’s first sweep at home in program history to top-ranked and eventual NCAA Champions UCLA. Pepperdine went 10-1 overall, however, and posted a 37-13 individual match record throughout the year Pepperdine is 52-3 (.945) in duals in eight seasons at Zuma Beach, and boasts an individual match record of 237- 50 (.826).
