Russian Literature in the National Marine Mammals Laboratory Library RUSSIAN LITERATURE IN THE NATIONAL MARINE MAMMAL LABORATORY LIBRARY t....J ." ---_1...r."a..._--- Submitted to the National Marine Mammal Laboratory in fulfillment ofContract No. 43ABNF601962 Marinka International S. Pearson (Smrstik), compiler Seattle, Washington February 1997 INTRODUCTION This bibliography of Russian literature represents the collection of works, either published or unpublished, for individual Russian scientists who have done research on marine mammals. The information for the compilation of this list came from entries in the NMML Library card catalog and the on-line Papyrus data base of current NMML holdings. The Russian materials in the library were gathered from various sources: journal articles, reports from VNIRO (All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography) and TINRO (Pacific Scientific Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography). The annual reports from the Russian side in connection with Project 02.06-61 “Marine Mammals”, US-USSR (Russia) Agreement of Protection of the Environment are valuable data which document the ongoing cooperative research between the United States and the Russian Federation of States. The author’s names are alphabetized according to the English spelling of the name. There are variations in spellings for the same name because there are different transliteration systems. In order to facilitate the usefulness of the citations the language is indicated or the presence of an English abstract where ever it was possible to verify that information. Standard abbreviations were used in journal citations. The translator’s name or affiliation is also included when available. Approximately one-fourth of the citations were actually verified as to being available in the reprint file or on the book shelves. For the list to represent the actual holdings of Russian literature in the NMML Library, the location all of the citations should be checked. This latter step was not done due to lack of additional funding. I would like to express my gratitude to Sonja Kromann and Scott McClelland of the NMML laboratory for their help in formatting the Subject Index section. RUSSIAN LITERATURE IN THE NATIONAL MARINE MAMMAL LABORATORY LIBRARY ______________________________________________________________________________ Listed below are works by Russian scientists published in Russian or English which are available in the NMML Library. Russian names which have different English transliterations for the same author are alphabetized according to the English spelling of the name. Individual author’s files have not been verified. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Abdullabekov, A. 1967. • Effects of Parasites on Marine Maniacs
EFFECTS OF PARASITES ON MARINE MANIACS JOSEPH R. GERACI and DAVID J. ST.AUBIN Department of Pathology Ontario Veterinary College University of Guefph Guelph, Ontario Canada INTRODUCTION Parasites of marine mammals have been the focus of numerous reports dealing with taxonomy, distribution and ecology (Defyamure, 1955). Descriptions of associated tissue damage are also available, with attempts to link severity of disease with morbidity and mortality of individuals and populations. This paper is not intended to duplicate that Iiterature. Instead we focus on those organisms which we perceive to be pathogenic, while tempering some of the more exaggerated int~~retations. We deal with life cycles by emphasizing unusual adap~t~ons of selected organisms, and have neces- sarily limited our selection of the literature to highlight that theme. For this discussion we address the parasites of cetaceans---baleen whales (mysticetes), and toothed whales, dolphins and porpoises (odon- tocetes): pinnipeds-true seals (phocidsf, fur seals and sea Iions (otariidsf and walruses (adobenids); sirenians~anatees and dugongs, and the djminutive sea otter. ECTOPARASITES We use the term “ectoparasite’” loosely, when referring to organisms ranging from algae to fish which somehow cling to the surface of a marine mammal, and whose mode of attachment, feeding behavior, and relationship with the host or transport animal are sufficiently obscure that the term parasite cannot be excluded. What is clear is that these organisms damage the integument in some way. For example: a whale entering the coid waters of the Antarctic can acquire a yelIow film over its body. Blue whales so discoiored are known as “sulfur bottoms”.

ISSN: 0975-8585 Research Journal of Pharmaceutical, Biological and Chemical Sciences Concentration of Gold from Ash and Slag Wastes of Energy Sector Enterprises of The Primorsky Territory. Evgeny Ivanovich Shamray1*, Andrey Vasilyevich Taskin2, Sergey Igorevich Ivannikov1, and Alexander Alekseevich Yudakov1. 1 Institute of chemistry FEB RAS, 690022, Russia, Vladivostok, Prosp. 100-letya Vladivostoka, 159. 2Far Eastern Federal University, 690091, Russia, Vladivostok, Sukhanova str., 8. ABSTRACT The study of a large array of ash waste from landfills of energy sector enterprises in Primorsky Territory was made. Data on the content of gold and silver in the ash and slug waste of some energy enterprises in Primorsky Territory was given. Group of samples with high content of gold and silver was found. Silver content was found within 0.5-29.7 g/t limits. Gold content was found within 0.004–0.45 g/t limits. The information on the chemical composition of the investigated slag samples was given. Based on these data, the method of separation of ash and slag waste in the individual mineral fractions was proposed. The possibility of gold concentration in the non-magnetic fraction of the slag cleared of silt, clay, black charcoal and magnetic minerals was shown. Keywords: technogenic deposits, wastes of energy enterprises, ash and slag waste (ASW), gold, silver, atomic and absorption analysis, neutron-activation analysis, X-ray fluorescence analysis. *Corresponding Author November – December 2016 RJPBCS 7(6) Page No. 156 ISSN: 0975-8585 INTRODUCTION Ash and slag waste (ASW) is formed during coal combustion process in energy producing enterprises. For example, in recent years, yearly inflow of ASW into the ash and slag disposal areas of Primorsky Territory is up to 3.0 million tons.
