MY CANZONIERE By Carlo Siliotto I can't remember how it all started... The first image I have in mind is the Parioli's branch of the Italian Communist Party, where Stefano Lepri, Teresa Marchesi, Maurizio Gnerre, and maybe Clara Sereni, are singing folk songs. Songs like "Gli Scariolanti". Songs easy to sing, just a few chords, simple and yet filled with something absolute, something fierce as you find in classic music. They are songs, yet they're not light, easy-listening stuff; they are songs you want to sing together, they talk about people and real feelings, they are inventions and yet they are not, they are the legacy you want to pass on, a gift you hand to somebody, something deeply physical inviting you to participate, calling you to clap your hands on the same beat, and join the chorus. Those songs are different, a good vehicle for those of us in search for another dimension, an alternative project to what society and schools in the '60s tried to transmit. I don't know why, but I feel my Latin and Greek teacher won't like those songs, not to talk about my math teacher! But they are fine to me: I feel like I suddenly found a dress fitting on me like a glove. I go back in time when I was 10 years old, and to my mind runs to those long white shirts of the Gospel Choir of the Black Nativity which opened my eyes, ears and heart in Spoleto, where my mother brought me, on occasion of the Two Worlds Festival [Il Festival dei due mondi], in 1960, the moment I felt music anointed me. -
A Case Study of Carpino Folk Festival
Perceived impact of music festivals on the development of the hosting cities: a case study of Carpino Folk Festival Student name: Maria Giovanna Castigliego Student number: 454779 Supervisor: Dr. Frans Brouwer Master Cultural Economics and Entrepreneurship Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication Erasmus University Rotterdam Master Thesis February 9th, 2018 Perceived impact of music festivals on the development of the hosting cities: a case study of Carpino Folk Festival Abstract This paper focuses on effects of music festivals on the cities that host them as perceived by the local population and the organizers. The paper uses both qualitative and quantitative methods to analyze the effects in terms of recreation/socialization, culture/education, tourism, internal revenue generation, natural resources, external revenue generation, community pride/spirit and image creation/change. The design of the research is a case study on the Carpino Folk Festival in the Foggia area (Italy). An interview with the organizers of the festival have been conducted. Subsequently, a questionnaire about the same topics have been prepared and handed in to a sample of 150 people from Carpino. The research has found that the festival has had a remarkable impact on the community of Carpino in all aforementioned fields. Nevertheless, the perceptions of the festival slightly varied between organizers and residents. Both parties agree that the festival improves the image of the city and boosts sales of most of the local shops, cafés and restaurants. Concerning the cultural aspects, festival organizers are sceptical about the local youth’s interest in folk music; but the results of the questionnaire show how Carpino’s youth, instead, enjoys and engages in tradition-related activities. -

Res. 68] Whereas Gian Carlo Menotti was born on July 7, 1911, in Cadegliano-Viconago, Italy; Whereas Mr. Menotti began writing songs at age 7, and at age 11 wrote both the libretto and music for his first opera, The Death of Pierrot; Whereas Mr. Menotti began his formal musical training in 1923 at Milan’s Verdi Conservatory; Whereas after the death of his father, Mr. Menotti and his mother emigrated to the United States, and he enrolled at Philadelphia’s Curtis Institute of Music; Whereas Mr. Menotti’s first full-length opera, The Consul, premiered in 1950, and it won both the Pulitzer Prize for Music and, in 1954, the New York Drama Circle Critics’ Award for Musical Play of the Year; Whereas in 1951, Mr. Menotti wrote his beloved Christmas opera, Amahl and the Night Visitors, for the Hallmark Hall of Fame; Whereas Amahl and the Night Visitors was the first opera ever written for television in the United States and was first aired on Christmas Eve in 1951; Whereas Amahl and the Night Visitors was such a success that it became an annual Christmas tradition and remains Mr. Menotti’s most popular work to this day; Whereas in 1955, Mr. Menotti won a second Pulitzer Prize for his opera, The Saint of Bleecker Street; Whereas in 1958, Mr. Menotti founded the Festival dei Due Mondi (Festival of the Two Worlds) in Spoleto, Italy, as a forum for young American artists in Europe; Whereas when the organizers of the Festival of Two Worlds decided to plan a companion festival in the United States, they searched for a city that would offer the charm of Spoleto, Italy; Whereas Mr. -

The 18 member chamber choir will be augmented by an additional 22 singers to handle the demands of the summer’s music that will primarily feature music by recently deceased composer Gian Carlo Menotti, one of the founders of the Festival. The choir will be in residence June 25 through July 17 at the famed festival in the ancient Umbrian hill town. Major works performed by The Crossing this summer include Menotti’s opera Maria Golovin, Landscapes and Remembrances, a symphonic cantata, Missa O Pulchritudo, and the popular choral fable The Unicorn, the Gorgon, and the Manticore. The Festival will also be the venue for the ensemble to present the Italian Premieres of Philip Moore’s Three Prayers of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Gabriel Jackson’s O nata lux, and Tarik O'Regan’s Care charminge Sleepe. "Gian Carlo Menotti was a trusted artistic friend in my musical life, and a major influence in the lives of many of the singers with whom I work regularly. Con il sostegno di Con il patrocinio e il contributo di 27 MAGGIO 2021 Conferenza stampa di presentazione della stagione estiva 2021 La progettazione e realizzazione della stagione è frutto della collaborazione tra associazioni, favorita e auspicata dalle norme del bando FodiMO “Mi metto all’opera 2020”. Il programma recupera parte degli eventi rinviati a causa della pandemia e presentati in quel progetto. Altri saranno recuperati nel periodo ottobre -dicembre 2021 CARTELLA STAMPA Alla ricerca della musica perduta Una rete di associazioni per musica, canto, parole nell’estate 2021 E la musica è ritrovata, da fine maggio. Non si può iniziare che con la luce: l’illuminismo musicale da Mozart a Beethoven nel nuovo libro di Giovanni Bietti. E poi, la musica suonata, in luoghi sicuri, all’aperto (ma con la possibilità di trasferirsi in un teatro in caso di maltempo); un grande numero di eventi per l’estate 2021. Si inaugura l’attività della rete costituita da GMI, Associazione corale Gazzotti, Accademia della Crucca: vale a dire la musica, il canto, la parola. Nell’anno di forzata immobilità questa rete si è ampliata, coinvolgendo l’associazione Tempo di Musica, particolarmente attenta a progetti originali e di musica contemporanea e agli ex allievi del corso di alta specializzazione in comunicazione video organizzato dal Teatro Comunale di Modena, portatori di competenze fondamentali in questa epoca di sviluppo degli spettacoli trasmessi online. La programmazione ampia, integrata, che arriva alla fine del 2022, e che qui anticipiamo per l’estate 2021, sarà caratterizzata da proposte che uniscono musica, canto, parola; soprattutto, inevitabilmente, di lingua tedesca e del periodo classico romantico: dai grandi capolavori corali al più intimistico Lied.
