8 Risers The Singing Bell Our risers raise the music above the table, helping ringers see the director. Use them with an Acrylic, Metal or Notebook Music Stand. Unused The “Singing Bell” effect called for in this arrangement makes use of a technique adapted from the tradition of the singing bowls (also known as “Himalayan bowls” or “rin gongs” in Japan). The tradition of singing bowls handbells or other equipment can be placed dates from at least the tenth or twelfth centuries; however, bronze bells from Asia are known to exist even earlier, so the practice may actually have started around the eighth century. Singing bowls are a type of bell, underneath and out of the way. The Acrylic specifically classified as a standing bell. Rather than hanging inverted or attached to a handle, standing bells sit with the bottom surface resting. The sides and rim of singing bowls vibrate to produce sound by rubbing the Riser is lightweight with strong hinges and outer edge with a wooden stick. Singing bowls were historically made in Tibet, Nepal, India, Bhutan, China, Japan and Korea; today they are made in Nepal, India, Japan and Korea. The best known types are from the smooth round edges.
