Random Thoughts from Father David of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church

This week I heard someone talking and they described themselves as an ‘ambivert,’ and I really connected with their description of themself. No, this is not a new religion; it relates to the personality traits of extrovert and introvert. Apparently, there are not just two ‘verts,’ I have found at least four! I should quickly say that the terms introvert and extrovert are used in different ways by different people, but I rather like the definition that, rather than referring to loud-and-gregarious verses quiet-and-shy, that these categories refer to the ‘place’ that one draws one’s energy – from outside of oneself or from inside of oneself. So, an extrovert very much draws their energy from interactions with others and this is what enables them; in contrast, an introvert needs to go inside themselves to find their store of strength. Those who use this definition talk about all of us being on a spectrum somewhere between the two personality types. And I think ‘omnivert’ is someone who is in the middle, so not strongly in either group, and ‘ambivert’ is someone who is both extrovert and introvert, that is, at times shows one trait and at other times shows the other. The person talking was a standup comedian who said that he needed the extrovert trait of drawing energy from his interactions with his audience in order for him to be funny, but then he would go home and want to lock himself away for days without seeing anyone, drawing on that inner energy as his way to prepare for his next show. Apart from gaining a new label that probably will be meaningless to most people, this idea of ambivert also said to me that it is okay to be the odd mixture of an apparent extrovert who really would prefer to be on his own. So where do you go to find your strength – to others or to inside yourself, or are you like me, predictably inconsistent?

Spring Is Coming…So Are Farmers Markets!

The Elkford Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce that we have taken over the local Farmers Market here in Elkford. The Elkford Farmers Market (formerly known as Riverview Farmers Market) will be taking place each Wednesday starting June 30th, 2021 and will run until September 8th, 2021. Each Wednesday from 4 pm to 8 pm we will be happy to provide our community and residents with a variety of local vendors in our downtown core parking lot of the Elkford Library/Elkford Arena and Kootenay Market! Keep an eye on our Elkford Chamber website and social media sites (www.elkfordchamber.ca) and Elkford Chamber of Commerce on Facebook/Instagram as we will be getting ready to reveal the criteria for vendors to sign up to be apart of our market as well as the exciting line up of events and contests that we will be putting on throughout our Farmers Market Season such as Show ‘n’ Shine, Family Day, Battle of the Bands, and Gift Basket Giveaways. We understand that this past year has been hard for many home-based businesses, non-profits, and crafters in our area with limited in-person craft fairs and the change of events to a virtual online platform that some businesses were not ready for. We believe that with the right COVID safety plan in place, using the areas in Elkford that are best situated for our market, we will be able to continue to support local businesses and non-profits and our community in a safe way. If you are a home-based business, crafter, or non-profit that is looking to attend our seasonal Farmers Market, we encourage you to reach out to us at the Chamber for more information and to sign up as a vendor! For more information on the Elkford Chamber of Commerce please contact us at [email protected] or visit our website at: https://www.elkfordchamber.ca Sincerely,

Shawna Bryant Executive Director Elkford Chamber of Commerce [email protected] 250.425.5725 www.elkfordchamber.ca

Elkford Early Years The Elkford Early Years would like to thank all 29 families that participated in our Window Scavenger Hunt on Easter weekend! We hid 10 Bugs Bunnies in windows all around Elkford for families to search for and take pic- tures of. This hunt allowed families to stay socially distant while still having fun within their bubbles! We hope to be able to have more outdoor activities and programs as the weather becomes nicer. -submitted by Kenzie Karwandy
