Sinc e the days when the wave of material o o l n ism swept over the w rld, b iterati g the traces o f the ancient Wisdo m -Religion and o o t e replacing it by theol gical d gmatism, our ligio ns have had nothing to offer us in the way of a philosophical explanatio n of the laws of n in Being as revealed in Man a d Nature . Instead we have o nly had bare sta tements n n and do gmatic assertio s . The higher ature of man is represented by such vague words and r n as Spirit So ul, which have little o o n n fo r o o f mea i g the maj rity. The laws the universe are briefly summed up under the ” n n n term , a d all further co sideratio of ff n o n n them shut o . HA TEVE R attention men of science may have given to the action of cyclic n law in some realms of nature, it is certai that in recent times little no tice has been taken of it by most Western peoples . We are doubtless more or less co nscious of the reign of law in in ff o terrestrial as sidereal a airs . Hist ry r n n repeats itself is a t ite sayi g, ofte applied to the petty as well as to the larger events n n of life. But we have surely ot gai ed more than a faint notion of the universality of this law in everything fro m tiniest atoms to cir cling universes ; in living fo rces ; in our emo n n n i n n tio s, aspiratio s, i tell ge ce ; in i dividual and racial : in all the panorama o f n life, whether visible or i visible . A alo gy b i g o in of the great keys such studies, we should expect to find that just as we have day and n mm nd n n and ight, su er a wi ter, waki g sleep in h and n sun g, birt death ; so worlds, su s, n nd systems, u iverses a the Kosmos, each has and n and in its days ights, summers w ters , a in and in and w k g sleep g states, births ” deaths . A n in n n d so, the oume al realms, vast per io ds of time are necessary to build up the dif ferent strata of form and conscious life which finally converge upo n the objective world as n n we k ow it . From a ki d of idealized cosmic n and substa ce , which is both spirit , cos mic will and intelligence spin a web reaching R O UN D S O F E VO L UTIO N 13 through the seven worlds or states from the purely spiritual side of nature down to the ob i the j ective and material . The deta ls of pro cess are naturally too vast and complex to be co n mprehe ded, but so much of the later pro cesses can at least be outlined as will enable a glimpse of the action of cyclic laws to be reached . As a result of the seven - fo ld cosmic forces n i n V Ma I tell gence , Motio , ital E lectricity, g netism n n o n , Astral Radiatio or Ema ati , Heat and a n i n Light e ch ce ter of l fe , pla etary or n n atomic, beco mes fi ally e dowed with a sep t n r and n n e a y nature, swept by respo di g to these septenary forces under cyclic laws . Thus in the case of the earth (which acco rding to the ancient teaching is the child of the moon ) ! the real ea rth exists o n four distinct planes nn n i o or realms of i er ature, the vis ble w rld being the lowest o f these .
