Over the past 12 years, we have had the pleasure of volunteering for Chai Lifeline Canada. We watched as its Executive Director, Mordechai Rothman, took his vision of helping as many families struggling with the affects of childhood illness, and built what is today one of the greatest support organizations we’ve ever seen. Throughout the years, we have been involved in Chai Lifeline Canada’s growth in numerous capacities. One of those was our chairing of the Sing for the Children concerts for the past ten years. While we worked tirelessly to bring the very best musical entertainment to the Roy Thomson stage year after year, and while each concert was an incredible success for the organization, we felt that it was time to change things up a bit this year. This year, we’ve taken a completely fresh approach to the event, and by doing so, attracted a broader audience of supporters. We are very excited for tonight’s show, and we are confident that you will leave the show having been entertained, moved, and inspired by the work being done by Chai Lifeline Canada. When a child is suddenly diagnosed with a life-threatening or life-long disease or illness, families are immediately thrown off track. Daily routine and order no longer exist. One parent, and often times both parents, need to give up a job. Financial struggles bring about all kinds of other challenges. Marriages begin to crumble. Siblings of the sick child are often neglected. Often, they begin to act up in school. The sick child themselves begin to fall behind on their school work and on their social lives. Entire families are in full-out distress. Psychological, emotional and financial support is the least of what is needed to help them cope. Rides to hospitals, food deliveries, tutors, therapists, support programs for the parents, the sick child, and for the siblings, are among the many, many things that are being done, every minute of every day, by the staff of Chai Lifeline Canada, and with the support of over 600 volunteers! It is said that it takes a village to raise a child. Raising a sick child, while supporting their entire family along the way, would be impossible without the help of the entire community. We humbly thank each and every one of you for your support. May God bless all of the staff, volunteers and supporters of Chai Lifeline with good health, strength and success, and may He forever be the only One we ever have to rely on. Enjoy the show!
