October-November 2013 3 NEW MEMBERS Welcome to our newest members: Ehab & Zina Metwally TRIP LEADERS REQUIRED We’re always on the lookout for trip leaders. Just about anyone can lead a trip with a little guidance from an experienced club member. Day trips are very easy to organise; they don’t necessarily need to be technically challenging or complicated, it might simply be a tour through some bush scenery, a picnic or a visit to something that interests you. If you would like to lead a trip for the Club but are a bit unsure of how to go about it - simply contact the Trip Convenor or speak to one of the more experienced members who would be more than happy to give you some advice. We’d also love to hear from more experienced members interested in leading trips. CHANGE OF ADDRESSS If you have moved and/or changed your telephone number or email address, please advise the Membership Secretary at [email protected] so that all of our correspondence will reach you. Please also let the webmaster know at [email protected] if you have changed your email address or go to the website and update your details, we’d hate our members to miss out on anything! HAPPY BIRTHDAY Happy Birthday to all our members who celebrated birthdays in October and November Ray Stanborough Dennis Jones Damien Lauric Mark Honor Shahni Quinn Jean Hocking Bob Ronai Brian Morgan Jessica Dalkomo Cathy Hird Rosario Rodriguez John Young Geoff Adcock Ethan Lucas Isabelle Flood Steve Lamb Chris Burdett Alex ‘Seymour’ Cadell Sandra Warton Chris Mifsud If we have missed you or you haven’t given us your birthday please email [email protected] to be included President’s Report G’Day Everyone! By the time you read this I should’ve returned from wherever we finished up on the Darts & Dices trip and I know we would’ve had a very delightful time just cruising around, but as yet I know not where! If you haven’t heard from us please send out a search party! Our adventure-bound Bendethera travellers will no doubt have a few interesting stories to tell on their return from the October long weekend, which I’m sure would’ve been a blast as usual. As we now prepare for the Sydney 4WD & Adventure Show 18-20 Oct 2013, I sincerely thank the members who have registered to lend a hand at the show and I would encourage everyone to attend as it’s a great opportunity to showcase our great club. For most of us our wallets are usually a whole lot lighter after the show! Also check out the club’s website for the upcoming trips in November and December. Christmas is drawing close too so don’t forget to get in early with your registration for the Christmas Party in early December. At our last committee meeting it was decided we would hold a “Constitutional Weekend” in February 2014, where we will agree and update the constitution in preparation for submission to a Special General Meeting to gain adoption. The venue selected will be close enough to Sydney for those who wish to attend for a day rather than stay overnight; please keep an eye out for the dates. I know there are several new members I am yet to meet and, after the Show, maybe some more folks will join us. To you all I say “Welcome Aboard” to a terrific club and I hope to get to meet you soon! Cheers Kevin October-November 2013 5 Vice President’s Report After another interesting AGM, I hope that through a constitution planning weekend in February, all of the unsolved questions over phrasing and use of various ambiguous words will be sorted and it will all be plain sailing or rather driving, ahead. I am happy to be part of our committee again this year & look forward to the Sydney 4WD & Adventure Show where our club will once again have a stand. If you would like to help out, please let me know. I also encourage anyone that is thinking about running a trip, please do it and don't be afraid to ask other members for help. The first trip I did was far from what we had planned, but I did learn that our members have a fantastic sense of humour & were happy just to all be out together for the day, no matter where we went. I also learnt to buy a GPS! I recently had the opportunity to drive a bus full of students from Sydney to Darwin to participate in the World Solar Car Challenge. By the time this magazine goes to print I hope that UWS was successful in placing in the top 10. What the trip up made me realise was how much I take for granted whilst travelling around our great country & also on extended trips. All of our kids in the club have experienced so much more than even the average adult. Whilst a fantastic group of students, many had never camped before, had never been out of NSW, struggled with the lack of phone service in various areas and couldn't believe how vast our country actually is. Whilst I have no great desire to ever drive the full length of the Stuart Hwy again in a hurry, as club members the things we have seen, experienced & places we travel to should never be taken for granted. We are lucky to enjoy the great outdoors & what our awesome country has to offer with like minded friends - something I realised is quiet out of the ordinary for many Australians. Safe travels no matter where the tracks take you, Jo Quinn DON’T FORGET DECEMBER MEETING - Friday 13th Feature Creatures Come see a wild variety of amazing Australian creatures. $5.00 per head - pay on the night CHRISTMAS HAMPER RAFFLES Trip Convener's Report 2013 has had some great social, day, weekend, Driver Awareness trips and extended trips so far, with a few more planned to finish the year. Already a fantastic Australia Day Long weekend trip and extended desert trip are in for next year, time to organise where you want to go and when – send in the details. We are always looking for new trip leaders and locations to visit. If you would like to run a trip contact the trip convener to discuss and we will give you every advice possible and might even be able to assist on the trip. On August 2013, 24 & 25 off to Master Fire Cooking Camp Oven Cook off Round 2 at Belanglo State Forest, no worries it was a safe time & there was lots of good food to taste and score. OK all the girls looking for a night out, went with Jo on Friday 30 to the Rocks for a night of dinner, drinks, band and pink shirt. September 2013 had 2 cars go to Fraser Island as the main trip was postponed till next years. On Saturday 21 Joey took us on a tour around the NW Sydney and across one river five times on punts. For the long weekend in October 2013 there were two trips. Julie did an extended version of Darts and Dices – read the report to find out where they ended up. Bendethera Two Ways was wonderful with David A leading in a group on the hard tracks and David W taking almost as long leading in a group on the easy tracks.
