According to the 1861 British Census, John, his wife Louisa and four children were living in Stoke Upon Trent. James was the baby, at one year old. Exactly how James came to move from Staffordshire, England to Tyrone, Ireland, remains a mystery, but it would be a good guess that he went for the work.
